Oh, ok. Yeah, I was wondering more as to where the render originally came from and not where he found itraYne said:"ICGamers" probably

Pretty much everything.sableholic said:Hasn't almost everything that was found in the beta come true? Besides maybe the flamethrower off the top of my head.
The AI needs to be synchronized. The physics need to be synchronized. The streaming needs to be synchronized. All that is a big load of data. Wheras a game ussually loads one scenario at a time (scenario = part of a map), to have situations like those would mean that multiple scenarios (with all their features: enemies, physics, vehicles, etc)) need to be loaded and permanently rewritten as the players make changes to them. With sys link this problem is solved thanks to the uber fast connection. Only one scenario needs to be loaded and then all the other changes are done through the sharing of data. If it is done over Xbox Live and the connection is normal, it would still lag too much as the scenario can get too big. There are workarounds, but it seems this would restrict the freedom of the game.voltron said:Excuse my ignorance but why is a problem to have the two co-op players potentially over a mile away from each other in the online space and not in system link? It wouldnt feel like Halo to impose design features to get around this problem? So how is the problem solved locally with sys-link?
All signs point to online co-op actually being in the game but still I find Frankies reasoning a little confusing in the article. (sorry EGM).
The magazine apparantly isn't even in subscribers hands yet (this looks like a distribution center leak). We'll know soon enough.Digital Limit said:Wait, so FORGE is a game mode more than a map editor, or what?
Will we be able to save our changes to the map? I'm confused.
Stinkles, can we get Forge clarification? Hrm? Please!

Yep. It would be too much lag. A solution would be to restrict players to small chunks of the level, (like in GeOW which has closed encounters) but that would not feel like Halo. There is a good reason why such things are not even mentioned in this kind of games. If Bungie manages to do it, then it would be the first time something of that magnitude has been accomplished.voltron said:So the added concern of having to transmit this data over the internet instead of a 5 metre ethernet cable is what would be causing the headaches?
It's not a minor issue.voltron said:So the added concern of having to transmit this data over the internet instead of a 5 metre ethernet cable is what would be causing the headaches?
System link can generally be assumed to be significantly higher-bandwidth, and lower-latency, than an internet connection. And from the sounds of it, they'll have several metric shittons of data to sync between coop clients - all the AI units, all their projectiles, any physics interactions cased by either AI units or players, etc, all have to be kept in sync between the two systems, and with the numbers being tossed around for the size of the battles, i can definitely see how they might have had trouble working out a way to squeeze all that through the kind of 'net connection your average joe with live will have.Excuse my ignorance but why is a problem to have the two co-op players potentially over a mile away from each other in the online space and not in system link? Sean said:Ugh I was hoping online co-op would be confirmed by now. It's looking less and less likely IMO. If it was in the game I'm sure they'd be happy to tell us that. I hope they are able to add it as a downloadable patch or something, a downloadable update on day one sure would be nice..
Everything else is really awesome though. Hornet, Mauler, Prowler, Elephant, Forge... so much new stuff revealed in this.

That's the thing. They aren't forced to have it on by Sept. 25th.clashfan said:I believe on-line co-op will be a downloadable patch. I think they are just pressing to have Halo 3 out by the 25th.
Seriously, I had no idea there was still so many weapons left to be uncovered, and we still don't know much about some of them (like that insanely badass looking plasma flamethrower thingy). Also, anyone notice that we haven't heard of any heavy weapons other than the Missile Pod and Chaingun? There's got to be more than that (though the plasma-thrower thingy might be one).op_ivy said:its crazy. i never would have guessed bungie had this much in store for halo 3.
Recoil said:Huh, so Crackdown is the only game you've bought this year?
Alternative comeback: So, I guess you're not buying Mass Effect, HL2, Call of Duty, GTA4, Blue Dragon, Bioshock, PGR4, Asassin's Creed, or Lost Odyssey then, eh?
They are doing that double sales thing. Is a weird strategy, but MS is very confident of it. IMO If they were going to release it in september it should have been early in the month as many college students are still on vacations during that time. The first week of the quarter is critical. I cannot take a day off during that week. Sorry Bungie, but I will not touch Halo 3 until at least October when I can take 3 days off in a row to beat the game. This also means no Internet checking for me.Striker said:That's the thing. They aren't forced to have it on by Sept. 25th.
I wouldn't have minded a November release.
I'm hoping they can at least get the online co-op implemented, even if it is laggy, and then patch it up after release.Striker said:That's the thing. They aren't forced to have it on by Sept. 25th.

Look at the other posts, and understand why Halo 3 cannot have online coop without being gimped. Come on, its not a processing power thing, its just lag and insane amounts of data.KachoMakura said:Crackdown having online co-op was one of the main reasons why I bought it. I have a friend that due to different schedules and distance I can't often link up with in person so we have to do it online.

The downside is that it's narrow so you're exposed to grenade/rocket fire.

I didn't even try reading that blurriness. I wonder if that also means you can walk through it in one direction but not the other. And this changes things a lot, so much for saying the bubble shield is way betterGhaleonEB said:Remember all that arguing about how the deployable shield was just redundant to the bubble shield?
