I was under the impression that all studios were supporting Blu-ray now...I guess I was wrong.

Thanks for the answers, guys. Hopefully everything gets worked out between the higher-ups so I can finally get these movies in HD.

They are supporting Blu-Ray.

The Roger Rabbit issue goes well beyond any home video format.

Eisner was stupid and tried to one-up Spielberg. YOU DO NOT DO THAT. Spielberg co-owns Roger Rabbit. He won't let Disney touch the character now until Iger goes in and patches things up with him. Iger did it with Pixar, is seriously working on Lucas, and Spielberg will likely be next.

Got Tremors for $8.95 and got $7 back on Into the wild from amazon due to them lowering the price :)

My mistake, then I thought that this quote...

Roger Rabbit is Disney.

Jurassic Park and Back to the Future are Universal.

However, both are Spielberg productions and owned by Amblin so they won't come out until Spielberg lets Universal release them. So writing to Universal and begging for Blu-Ray releases won't do anything. Universal would probably release them this year, but they needs Spielberg's OK to do anything with an Amblin film.

firstly, he didn't say that.

he did.

secondly, HD media is still in an infancy and the only studios to really talk about catalog releases are Sony and WB and the two HD DVD studios haven't released anything about their future releases yet so no one knows. Hope that helped. :)

um isn't Rodger Rabbit to be released this year? I could have sworn that was one of the Disney titles to be released this year when they had that peak into 08 releases.

I'm watching Apollo 13 now...........not looking so hot. I know it's a catalog title and it's not like it's terrible, but there are very few scenes where the "HDness" of it really shows. The audio sounds good, fwiw.

Picked up the following:

Fry's Electronics
American Gangster (19.99)
Zodiac (17.99)

Best Buy
The Big Lebowski (10.49)
The Pianist (10.49)

Every single one of the above is an outstanding HD movie.. well actually, I haven't been able to see AG, because my wife wants to watch it with me.

The Pianist dropped down to $9.95 on Amazon, just called them and got my $2 refunded! Really gotta watch the Amazon prices these days as they keep going up and down as far as HD-DVDs are concerned...

I believe it is france or germany that is getting it

Wasn't able to go out to the movies tonight due to the stupid weather, so I cracked open Into the Wild and Things We Lost In the Fire. Really enjoyed them (Fire over Wild by a small margin; I'm more of an emotional drama person) and really lovely transfers in both instances. Things We Lost has so many shots of deep, vibrant colors, inky dark scenes and extreme close-ups that it's an unexpected near-reference quality image.

And Benicio's hair is amazing.

Hey guys, you guys are experts at this, so I thought I'd ask:

Any tidbits of news on the following films coming to Blu-Ray?

Pulp Fiction
American History X
Shaun of the Dead / Hot Fuzz
Fight Club
Shawshank Redemption

Thanks

Huh? Pretty sure some of those aren't UK titles, like No Country, Gattaca and Dogma. Some of the US ones aren't region free either.

That's the US release list. Independence Day is already available (has been since December). Also, Hitman is released at the end of March not next week

Hmm, Amazon UK must be making shit up, or has merged its import list in. Fair enough.

You're safe Mmmkay, my copy arrived today!!!! :P YES!

Just popped it in to check out a few scenes and HOLY FUCKNG SHIT the PQ is unbelievable! Even better than the PotC movies from what I've seen so far. If it keeps this consistency it is by far the best release so far. Amazing movie too.

How does this work, I thought this was only for pre orders. Is there a specific amount of time that can pass before they will credit you with the difference?

30 Days of Night

.....

ugh....I was really hyped on this one and finally got to see on Blu-Ray

Despite the killer visuals provided by David Slade and crew, the film has zero tension value, poor dialogue, silly plot devices, and overall just an entirely lukewarm execution...
Seriously, I was actually quite suprised just how "meh" this movie turned out to be

The only real highlights as I mentioned before, were some pretty decent visuals/shots and a rather good vampire lead (forget the actor's name) even though he didn't have a whole lot to work with...Though the rest of the vampire themselves were full-on annoying rather than actually creepy, mostly due to too much overacting and haming it up

On a side note, I've actually been to Barrow, Alaska due to my job....and yeah it looks nothing like that and there was WAAY too many white people there! :lol
I'm not hatin, cause obviously there was no way they could actually film it there, as it's too cold and the place is actually a big piece of shit. So I respect the liberties they took to make it a compelling setting....cause it's anything but

as far as the Blu-ray itself, the PQ really was excellent

Finally got my 15 bucks bluray of ...

host.jpg

At the beginning of the movie I was like O_O ... "oh shit, that's way too grainy" then I realized it was the rain pelting down on han river :lol

The movie was really great in HD. Even trivial stuff like a frontal shot of the kiosk popped with lots of detail (gazillion colorful candy boxes, shiny soda/beer cans, etc).

Awesome PQ and sound, enjoyed it so much I need to watch it again soon.

Yup, pretty fucking terrible movie. Avoid at all cost.

I wouldn't put it in the "avoid at all costs" slot, but when it is said that the movie had no tension at all it is so very true which boggles my mind how you can not pull tension out of a scenario like that.
Also the ending was complete shite.

Anyone own Goodfellas on BRD? I want to know what the PQ is like and if I should pick it up for $20.00. I own the movie on DVD but want to know if the PQ is much better than DVD to warrant a purchase.

I'll take a look at it in the next couple of days.

Fox is dropping the price because they weren't fucking selling. No one wants to pay $40 for a bare bones catalog title. Price drops on Amazon should be immediate.

Truth. I have both players, and over 150 movies between them. Not one of those is a Fox title.

yea I have nothing from Fox either, lol. Didn't really notice. I would have bought Mr. and Mrs. Smith but it's missing some things.

The HD-DVD I had (which is an identical transfer) was solid if unspectacular. It's a step up from the standard DVD (what high-def release isn't?) but I wouldn't go out of your way to get a copy at full price. Goodfellas is one of those titles that shows up in every single Blu-ray sale, so wait for one of those to come along if you must have it. No sense in spending $20 on something that you'll be able to get for half that.

Thanks. I'll wait for a sale then.

Just finished watching Beowulf... and I guess it was exactly as I expected it to be. The picture and sound quality were great, but the movie itself was meaningless and stupid.

I'll disagree. I thought it looked fantastic, with excellent detail on the faces, cars, etc. The movie looked really sharp, especially for such an old flick. But I do agree that he may as well wait for a sale, since that movie was on just about every WB sale that popped up.

I'm watching Daylight now. I think it's an underrated flick. The PQ isn't as good as I think it could be, but the sound is phenomenal. I hope Universal tweaks the PQ on a lot of their HD DVD catalog titles for Blu Ray. It's not that they look terrible, but you just know there's more potential for the movies to look crisper.

The host was great, Little Miss Sunshine + Godzilla = greatness.

The picture quality was awesome for a B movie. People who haven't seen this movie should.

I read through the thread and haven't seen any great sites for importing blu-ray to the states. I know play-asia has a large selection but they are dreaming if they expect me to pay that much. Any sites for importing to the US would really be appreciated!
