The HD Movie thread

Practically all of the waits on my Netflixed Blu-ray movies have improved dramatically rather suddenly. Very Long to Long or Short now.

Maybe they are finally stocking up on additional copies?

I actually got "No Reservations" on release day, but it's not exactly a much wanted movie I'm guessing :) A very by the numbers chick flick and even my wife thought it was cheesy. After seeing Ratatouille, it looked interesting. Nice picture, but nothing special.

Ensequence and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (SPHE) have jointly announced an agreement whereby SPHE will license and resell Ensequence on-Q Create software suite to both major studios and independent Blu-ray developers. The software, which will be integrated into SPHE's existing Blu-print software package, will allow developers to easily and quickly add BD-Java content to their Blu-ray releases without the necessity for advanced training on the Java language.

The software will provide developers with a drag-and-drop interface with Adobe Photoshop integration and built-in Blu-ray Disc functionality. It will provide support for features such as picture-in-picture (PIP) commentary, purchase functionality, and bonus content - including notifications regarding an upcoming sequel. Additionally, the software will ensure that all authored discs function correctly across all BD-J implementations.

Don Eklund, SPHE's EVP of Advanced Technology commented, "The Ensequence on-Q Create suite has drastically reduced the complexity of authoring Java content on Blu-ray Disc titles, enabling content developers to create compelling, rich and dynamic interactive experiences in a WYSIWYG environment – and in drastically reduced timeframes."

Dalen Harrison, CEO, Ensequence continued, "We were able to apply our expertise in the television set-top box market and create interactive television experiences for multiple platforms to address the complexity of Blu-ray authoring, which is just being recognized in the packaged media community. With the on-Q Create suite for Blu-ray Java, our customers and resellers are able to take advantage of the advanced capabilities made available on the most cutting edge consumer devices today."

Ok...so I pop'd in the Half-Baked DVD/HD-DVD combo disc in yesterday and the menus, boot up sequence, and extras were different than the dvd side. I didn't even have to sit through movie previews that you have to on the dvd side. Since this was my first combo disc I was wonder is this normal for all combo movie disc? I haven't opened American Gangster yet so I can't tell.

Oh I know that, but who knew how long it would take and if they would be enough to make a difference :) I blame the writers strike for the longer waits also... I know I started renting a lot more.

In the valley of elah? Worth a buy on blu-ray? Haven't seen it yet.

I can't comment on the Blu-Ray itself, but the flick was pretty good. Tommy Lee Jones plays Tommy Lee Jones as the father of a soldier who has gone AWOL, at which point he starts trying to find his son. Things get very depressing from there. If you were to buy one Tommy Lee Jones movie of 2007, you'd want to get No Country For Old Men first, but Elah was still a fine film.

Nothing's changed as far as I can tell. I have my account on "hold", but I can still see the status on the movies. No Reservations is long wait, Jesse James is very long wait, Gone Baby Gone is long wait, etc. etc.

Walked in to walmart just now and they have 30 days of night out on blu-ray and dvd to sell. This isn't supposed to be out until next week right?

What's the price for the BluRay rev (and BluRay's in general)?

Haven't been to a Walmart in years.

30 days is $24.96. They don't have one blu-ray that is over $29.96. Best price on blu-ray movies I've found, but what titles you find at which walmart seem to be random, but they carry most new releases that come out.

Man, watched cars last night for the first time in HD, and when he gets the paintjob (sparkles be damned) it was absolutely wonderful. Haters be damned, the movie may not be what you like, but DAMN it looks good.

"Toshiba claims that Sony’s victory in the high definition disc format war will be short lived due to the rise of HD digital video downloads over broadband, which the company claims was one of the key reason for abandoning HD DVD.""

Toshiba needs to shut the fuck up. As we know they were right about so many things *sarcasm*.

Hey Toshiba, how's SED and 51gb discs working out? Fucking idiots! The fact that they dragged this thing so far knowing they were going to leave their customers in the dust, shows a gross amount of mismanagement in their divisions. They love to make predictions that never come to fruition.

This got me thinking. What the hell does Toshiba actually make that I'd ever want to buy? A Regza? I'd rather spend a bit more and get a Pioneer plasma.

That is what happens when Microsoft is whispering in your ear...

NO FORMAT WAR BULLSHIT HERE!!!

Take it to the other thread. Make a new thread. But, PLEASE, keep it out of this thread. It's been an awesome, harmonious thread so far.

Just picked up Michael Clayton and Resuce Dawn @ bestbuy

I Know Rescue Dawn has excellent picture quality, heres hoping Michael Clayton does too (and I like it).

The last two blu-rays I bought, Gone baby gone and We own the night, didnt have such good picture quality

Watched the Fly, one of my favorite films. It's a very good and respectable upgrade.

I also watch Shoot em Up. And DAMN, this is one fine lookin transfer :D

Nothing looks better than blue skies and tropical-style foliage in HD. Lost, Rescue Dawn, Apocalypto, PoTC, Cast Away, etc. Even CSI Miami (CBS HD via FiOS) - don't really like the show, but damn is it eye-catching in HD.

And yeah.. no format war shit here. Please.

Truth. The Bahama shots in Casino Royale looked spectacular.

Most of my BDs have gone to "Short Wait" as well but unfortunately they are still not shipping them!!! I had 3 movies shipped today and none are from my "short wait" list. :( I want my Ratatouille!

If you guys want to see nice foliage, check out Tears of the Sun. Decent movie, that becomes a bit ridiculous in the end, but the lush jungle environments look great.

I've got 300, 3:10 to Yuma and 30 Days of Night in the queue ready to be watched. Looked through all the special features. It's great to watch those in hi-def. Had a quick watch of the first few minutes of Yuma and 30 Days and was suitably impressed. Can't wait to sit and watch them.

Watched Shoot Em Up the other day. Superb picture quality, especially on the close ups of their faces. Every detail. It's great.

Netflix shipped "Run Lola Run" today. Not sure what the wait just was, but that's 2 for 2 on new-ish releases this week. So things, at least for the past week, have seemingly improved a bit.

I don't agree, We Own the Night had pretty good picture quality, where it suffered was it's drab colors and occasional noisy scene's when the picture was dark.

Overall though, it was pretty good PQ.

Yeah for some reason tropical stuff always looks nice in hd...Think I'll go back and buy 30 days of night. Imdb rating is really good for a movie like this. Also, bought lost season 2 today. I gotta finish 1 tonight then start 2. I'm trying to catch up to being current. I gotta buy season 3 on blu-ray next.

I still hope people will actually use this thread to post great new upcoming title news I loved the other thread for that too.

you are a sinner of the highest order. i look forwards to your repetance. you have until the day The Thing hits blu-ray.
I just watched The Thing. It was really good, but I like The Descent better, my top horror/suspense movie to date. I'll admit I'm not a huge fan of horror since most movies nowadays seem to go for cheap thrills and OMGSCARYMONSTERJUMPSOUT moments rather than building real suspense. The Descent is an amazing suspense movie and I have it on Blu-Ray. I suggest everyone watch it.

I'm going to watch Deliverance next.

Retailers are recently getting notified that Cloverfield will hit HD DVD on April 22nd (Cosmic Bus posted it earlier though).

There's no previews at all on Universal HD DVD discs (which is a big welcome). I cannot stand the dozens of previews on most Blu-ray movies (Disney and Lionsgate are the worse).

Day 1 on both of those.

any word on a atonement release yet?

the HD-DVD was suppose to be released March 11 but I expect the BR to be released around the same time or a little later now that HD is dead.

Fry's had Crimson Tide, The Rock, and Con Air on sale for $14.99. I already had The Rock, but I picked up Con Air, Crimson Tide, Roving Mars, and HDNet's Shuttle Discovery disc which brings my BRD total to 69.

Does The Rock and Con-Air still come with $10 off cupons inside?

How is this for a BUDGET HDMI receiver (elitists with their $3,000 receivers can shut up, thanks):

I have the Sony STRDG910. Great receiver at a low price. I'm really satisfied with it, and the 3 HDMI inputs was a huge plus for me. It also upconverts (doesn't upscale) every signal in HDMI.
