Ohh shit, I just asked my moms about that (because it was so long ago when she did that) but the penny on the forehead was for nosebleeds! I swear I remember it being for hiccups. :lol She said I was right about the string on the forehead for hiccups though, lol.DarK SouL said:OMG!!!! Not for the hiccups but my mom and teachers made me do that whenever I had nosebleeds!
I swear we must have tried that. :lol So many home remedies when you're young.wenis said:How about this for Ear aches:
Warmed up vegetable/olive oil
Pour it in the ear
place cotton ball over it
Have to hold completely still the entire night/day while sleeping so it didn't spill all over the bed :lol
but it fucking worked!
OMFG. YES. That the infant hiccup cure! :lol :lol :lol :lolpurple cobra said:Yeah, it could be like 72 degrees at night here and moms' still be like "put on a jacket, it's cold". What?!
Also, this could just be a Puerto Rican thing, but did anybody ever get the penny on the forehead if you got the hiccups? I used to get that when I was young. It was that or a little piece of string wet with saliva on the forehead.
I wanted to ask this because I was curious about the subject of colorism in the Hispanic population As a black man I'm well aware of it in the black community and have experience with it. I was wondering if there is the same issue within the Hispanic community. I'm not sure if this is related to colorism or if it's more of racism, but I have noticed that just about all the famous Hispanics that I can name here in America are of lighter skin. The two exceptions I can think of George Lopez and this guy I don't know his name, but I've seen him appear in a few movies. They weren't movies that I were interested in so that's why I don't know his name, but anyway why are most of these Hispanics I see on tv are of the lighter tone?
=(
...I got too excited, and just made the thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=21054317#post21054317
EDIT: gah, what do you guys think, should i get a mod to lock that thread?

Is this like the unofficial hang thread of Hispanic/Latino GAF?

All of these people are hispanic and a lot of times people think they are african american.

And holy shit at seeing this thread. It was the beginning of HispaniGaf
in the dominican republic its an interesting thing because even dark skinned a lot of times dont think they are "black". And a lot of times those same people will put down haitians for BEING black.Interesting. I'm am very surprised that Tatyanna Ali is half latina, for the longest I thought she was Muhammed Ali's daughter. That's what my big brother told me and then later on I heard wrong and thought she was half Indian. A couple of those other people surprised me too. I always could tell Christina Millan was half latina, but I was surprised she was shunned because of her skin tone because in the black community she would be considered light skin.
The colorism issue sounds mostly the same as it does with blacks.
Yeah, I think this has more to do with it. Cultures that emphasize taking care of the elderly just tend to live longer. Hispanic families take care of their old.Being part of a strong family usually does wonders for your psychological health. A steady and constant faith helps too. They help you deal with stress and generally reduces the toll that stress takes on your body.
I'm not saying this is what makes Hispanics live longer, just a little something to throw out there. I have no idea why latinos have healthier lives. It must be the tamarind candies.
