So I've been playing the Christmas cut the rope. I'm having a lot of fun. the stocking portals mechanic make for some fun puzzles. Also Infinity Blade is pretty cool but is it just me or when you face the God-King do you auto suck? Like your parry and dodges not registering? I mean I guess it makes sense as you need to level up and take a few bloodlines to beat him but I felt cheated after I easily beat his Dark Knight and then having my guy not even make an attempt at a parry.

Does anyone else play Lead Wars?

I was given a code for it and gave the training a go. Pretty fun stuff, I'm kind of surprised I haven't heard of it before since it seems like the type of game that would have a following on GAF.

Looks pretty good...although the controls look like they could be obnoxious, how are they? Otherwise the it sort of reminds me of Steambirds which was pretty great. If you haven't played that one its on iOS for a buck or two, with a free Flash version online. I'd like to hear a comparison of the gameplay if possible.

Graphically, RR2 looks great but it still has that weird 'cars go faster round corners than on straights' thing going on.
Yeah I mentioned a few pages back how the physics felt really off in the first one, like the cars aren't weighty enough or something.

Is it just me or am I the only one who thinks Geometry wars controls are terrible on both the iPhone and iPad ?

if it had that feature where the d-pad reappeared wherever you placed your thumb, it would be alright

After pussying around for a few days I decided to splurge on a host of titles for my new iPod.

Mostly the super-cheap ones, though. Has Space Invaders Infinity Gene been cheaper in the past?

rRootage has a free low-res version, and it's one of the best shooters on iOS.

It actually plays exactly along the model of a middle school-level pencil and paper based war game. When you go to move or shoot, your finger is basically on top of the eraser, and you're trying to push the pencil over so it draws a line where you want to move/shoot to. The catch being that by pushing forward after the pencil "tips", you can extend it farther or curve it. The tutorial covers it pretty well.

I like it, just need to play some online games with it.

Good thing it has that feature!

What games are coming out at December 16? People say it's a huge day, I can think of:

- World of Goo (iPad)
- N.O.V.A 2
- Aralon
- Real Racing 2

Wow RR2 and NOVA 2... probably day 1. Just got Infinity Blade and DH 2. Good thing these games are all under $10.

Controls are very iffy. That and the presentation (menu style) are the worst thing about the game. Solid premise and lots of potential though.

Appvent Calendar 2010 free game is freaking awesome today. 8 levels in and his has introduced some nice stuff. Looking forward to what comes up in the later levels.

Axe In Face.

:lol The crying is hilarious.
Awesome stuff.

Was cheap before but I've been thinking about getting it for a while and now it's free :D

Are you guys f'n... my god. Looking at that Shadow Guardian game being played gave me arthritis.

It looks like it was made with a $50 budget.

What's the story with Secret of Mana and Final Fantasy Tactics?

Weren't they supposed to be out in November?

Secret of Mana - no.

Final Fantasy Tactics - allegedly, although I doubt anyone could point to a source of this information that isn't "industry chatter".

Bottom line: when they're out, you'll know.

Veggie Samurai is free today, exactly the same thing as Fruit Ninja if you're too cheap to spend a buck on it.

I thought Halfbrick would've done something about that actually

It does allow you to chop things in more than 2 pieces which is a nice addition Fruit Ninja is missing. When both first came out, I liked Veggie better but Fruit Ninja has easily surpassed it with the new modes, GC support, and other updates.

It's really sad to me when a company like Gameloft continuously gets controls and gameplay down so well with their ripoff titles, but when a developer like Capcom tries to port over a legitimate title (Dead Rising), the controls make it play like shit.

I guess I should be welcoming our Gameloft overlords.

So, has Shameloft ever been publicly called out by another developer?

Did you read the beginning of the preview? Here is the text:

As similar as Gameloft's upcoming Shadow Guardian might be to Uncharted, let's not forget that Uncharted stole its platforming from Tomb Raider and Prince of Persia. So who's to say who's borrowing from whom?

Embarrassing for SlidetoPlay to make excuses for Gameloft.

It is true though. Uncharted just mixes Pop and Tomb Raider with GoW. They just change the character and style so you don't notice. Gameloft doesn't try to hide the fact that they are copying another game which is why they take so much shit for it.

I don't think it is true at all. Building on works of the past and creating your own universe is extremely different than ripping off a game formula. Shadow Guardian *is* attempting to be Uncharted. From the look of the main character to how the game plays. It is a direct rip off. Gameloft doesn't use other games for inspiration. They copy popular games. Having said this I love Uncharted so much I'll probably pick this up when it is on the cheap.

Yeah, there's a BIG fucking difference between same-genre titles borrowing successful ideas versus what Gameloft is doing. This is more offensive than Dante's Inferno, in that regard.

Yet, since Gameloft titles are released on a touchscreen-only mobile platform for around $5, I feel like people don't mind as much.

gameloft has been releasing titles for DSiWare and PSP, btw. ports from iOS.

You know, when I start to feel like bashing Gameloft for copying big franchises Capcom releases some shitty ass game like Dead Rising.

Hey Gameloft, if you want to copy Dead Rising and make something half decent, go ahead.

I'm as much against blatant rip-offs that show lack of creativity as much as the next guy, but I think what game loft are going for is slightly different from just cashing in. I feel they are just exploiting a gap in the market. The big developers aren't trying as seriously to grab the iOS game space, so game loft are. People obviously want to play those sorts of games, and since most of the companies aren't doing it, they will.

Not to mention when the big games do make it over, they more often than not suck anyway. Personally, though, from what i've tried of the game loft clones, they,re good renditions, but lack heart.

you'd think more pubs would try outsourcing to them and cashing in that way. can't say i'm the biggest fan though, thought their hot shots clone was pretty bad other than the nice production values (seems to be a common theme)

They're the absolute best twin-stick controls on the platform for me.
I'd say Mushi Bug Panic's controls are better...but they're not too comparable with the way the right stick works in it.

Gameloft must be thrilled with the Uncharted 3 announcement. I'm so hyped for that game that I'm kinda looking forward to Shadow Guardian now. :lol

FFT never had a release date, and the creators issued a statement apologizing for the misunderstanding even though they had nothing to do with it.

Indeed. That's why I wrote "allegedly, although the rumor was bullshit", just using nicer words ;)
