The iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch Gaming |OT2| Part II

I think old 16-bit pixel art looks beautiful all blown up and hate when they ruin it with shitty smear filters, so I'd love an 'HD' Secret of Mana if they just scaled up the graphics. Just tweak the UI so that it's not awkward on the big screen and I'd go for it in a second.

Weird that appshopper.com didn't notify me that Chaos Rings was on sale. For $6 I bought it, that's the lowest price it's ever been. I probably would have bought it at full price if I ran out of things to play because the game looks like something I'd pay $30-40 for on DS/PSP.

I'm debating getting Resident Evil 4 Platinum. It's only a dollar, which is silly to debate, but I'm so torn. On one hand I LOVE Resident Evil 4 and think the controls work well, on the other hand I'm not sure about how it's split into section and the game feels like a weak effort. I'll play the demo a lot this afternoon to help decide, if anyone wants to chime in with their experiences with it feel free.

Gangstar: West Coast Hustle HD has gone free. No idea about quality, but freeeeeeeee

Words with Friends HD is 99c

Anyone any idea why the Infinity Blade update isn't up on the UK store?

I want my Christmas helmet dammit!
Shows up for me (in the UK) if you search for updates on the iphone itself rather than itunes

Any chance you already got it? (You could have done an update all recently?). Maybe turn off/on Wifi, and also the iPad itself.

Pretty sure I haven't downloaded an update for it, checking now though.

I'm on iPhone though, doubt that'd make a difference with it being a universal app though would it?

Fake edit: Nope no new helmet or anything. :(

Neither the Aralon nor the Infinity Blade updates were popping up for me. Not in iTunes, nor on the iPhone's App Store. The new version was posted, and the stores recognized that I still had the old ones installed, but I wasn't getting an update prompt on either service.

I wound up simply downloading them fresh from iTunes and sync'ing them over to my iPhone. That worked, though IB kept on force-crashing to desktop at the Unreal logo screen. A simple reboot of the iPhone fixed that.

Decided to start a new character in Aralon since I didn't particularly feel like going back to see what new quests and whatnot were added to areas I had already cleared. I had fun tinkering with my mage, but now I'm going the warrior route. Before dropping my old character, I did double-check to see if the update fixed the broken story quest in Callaheim. It did, so it's nice to be able to progress beyond that point.

I thought Aralon was that crappy Gameloft FF ripoff so I didn't bother looking it up... then I found out it was the sequel to the Morrowind-like that I downloaded but didn't play much. Downloading now, hype!

I was on the fence for a week, but I'm glad I bought it. :)

It could use some polish, but it's good stuff for sure.

Just bought Age of Zombies. Was waiting for the inevitable 0.99 sale. :D

Kinda bummed to see that Chaos Rings dropped half the price one week after I bought it, but I guess this kind of thing happens all the time. Win some, lose some. :lol

Hey, at least more people can experience this great game.

If you're thinking of Ravensword: The Fallen King (or something like that), then Aralon is not a sequel to it. Heck, the core game was developed by another team entirely. The Ravensword folks did, however, help out with development, in particular juicing up the visuals. I think TouchArcade has some nice before/after screenies and trailers comparing the various builds.

Aralon is pretty excellent so far, though. I think it is safe to say that it's a spiritual successor to Ravensword's gameplay, as it seems to fulfill the promise Ravensword aspired to but didn't quite manage to deliver upon.

You should know better re: Gameloft. They don't just rip off gameplay and concepts, but names too! Their Final Fantasy rip-off is called Eternal Legacy. Which actually works on multiple levels. The name manages to evoke comparisons with Final Fantasy and suggests that Gameloft's legacy shall eternally be known as one of rip-offery. *chuckles*

Queen's Crown is only a buck now!
Dag nabit, why do they do this???

I bought it during their $3 sale last week because I figured that was it for their Christmas sale. I haven't even gotten the chance to play the game yet! How aggravating!

Oh well, $2 out. Not really worried about it, it's more just the principle that bothers me.

I can finish my Knights of Callanheim guild quest now!

Did they unlock the sword shop, or was that intentional?

EDIT: I'm talking about Aralon, by the way. :lol

Yep. The hedge maze shenanigans quest, right?

Damn. Should have checked that before deleting my old character. Sorry. :/
I'm pretty sure that the lock is intentional, however.

Is Queen's Crown as good as it looks? Because it looks slicker than all those bad iOS arpgs.

Yeah, the hedge maze. I'll check the shop and finish that quest at lunch today.

I was thinking about gifting a game to a friend, but I was I never bought anything on iTunes (despite having an account). There's some kind of way to be sure that I'm not buying him a game that he already has? Will iTunes warn me?

Also, some raccomandation (non-action JRPG or turn based strategical)...I was thinking about Song Summoner or GameDev Story

thanks in advance :)

I only played Song Summoner on the 5th gen iPods....it was not great. GameDev Story is an amazingly addictive game...it's a little short but absolutely worth it.

Hm, how do I know if I have the updated version of Aralon? Played for about 20 min, seems awesome so far :)

I haven't found an in-game version indicator, surprisingly.
But you can just pop into the App Store to see if you have 2.00 or 2.12 installed.
If the price/buy button shows buy, then you're probably still on 2.00.
If it says installed, you're on 2.12 (or whatever the new version number is).

Fans of futuristic racers: do NOT get Extreme_Formula. Absolutely atrocious framerate, borderline unplayable, serious lack of polish, bland style, first time I'm actually reporting a problem and asking for a refund through the app store.

Tell us how it works out.

I would've definitely used the feature in the past had I known it works well/for this kind of thing.

Don't really get the gameloft hate, when other developers start creating / porting games to the iOS platform of comparative quality to their console counterparts then sure but otherwise gameloft is one of the only companies making an effort to bring a console type games to the iOS platform. It's pretty bad when their efforts control better and lately look better than EA or Capcom's offerings.

Just my opinion man.

totally. i haven't bought many of their games because they don't appeal to me, but if the big boys don't wanna join the iOS party, gameloft is definitely welcome to stay.

gameloft pretty much all that can be said is that they are the best console ripoffs out there. and they're very good console ripoffs for iOS games because other iOS console ripoffs are literally garbage. it cracks me up though when people start comparing them to the actual console versions. give me a fucking break. not even close.

I just got an iphone 4. Upgraded from a 3G. Been having problems.

-I re-download Chaos Rings to see if it runs smoother than it did on the 3G and it does but ummm...the sound effects drop out within the first min or two of play and never come back. wtf.

-I buy Dodonpachi Ressurection and the game doesn't even work. It gives me a blank white screen at the title screen and I can't do anything.

Is gaming on the iphone 4 this glitchy? Buying a game for $9-10 that doesn't even boot is pretty bullshit.

Have you fully rebooted the phone since downloading?
It's actually recommended that you always reboot after purchasing and/or updating a game, before playing.

Someone tried to tell me that Shadow Guardian is at least as good as Uncharted 2 and possibly even better because it was portable.

This was fixed in the most recent patch (from like 4 months ago). The initial retina upgrade/patch had those errors, and 2-3 weeks later another update was released fixing it. I pretty much played the entire game on that update and had no problems.

Dondon may just need to be force shut and restarted, there's occasionally issues with OF or something.

I've never once had to restart my iPhone 4 to get an game to work, even after an update (I don't even close the game or anything).

How's Avatar?
Not too bad. Decent looking but a bit repetitive and very linear. Controls could be a bit unresponsive at times, but overall I had fun upgrading and climbing stuff.

It's a decent run-and-poke-stuff-with-a-stick game. But I wouldn't really recommend it outside this sale.

Yesterday's Infinity Blade patch was the first time I ever had to reboot my iPhone 4 to get a game to run. IB V1.1 force-closed to home screen after the Unreal logo 100% of the time, until I rebooted. Now it's perfect.

every day. a few days ago it was "how does real racing 2 compare to gt5?" you can't make this stuff up

Thanks.

After I rebooted, both Chaos Rings sound effect issue and Dodonpachi's white screen problems were fixed.

Chaos rings is on sale or 5.99 today...worth it?

I picked up the iPad version. 15.99 or whatever it was just was much more than I was willing to pay.

Haven't had a chance to play it yet, but the art is nice.
