I'd consider lack of content a primary shortcoming.

How is there a lack of content? There's like 100 items to level, and you can fight the God King up to level 250 or something. Someone posted even with maxed gear, when you get to/past the 40th bloodline, all the fights are no cakewalk.

Maybe it's just me, but that sounds like a fair amount of content. Now arguing they were a little deceiving about post-release support is one thing, and that I agree they were, but 900MB updates every week would just lead to bitching too, no doubt.

loved game dev story so i immediately bought hot springs story

from the 2 minutes i played - it still uses the square resolution (rather than the widescreen or portrait format)

and the menus and everything are basically laid out exactly the same....

its almost a reskin... but i do like onsens so looking forward to exploring this game.

Yea, they have like 30 different "Story" sims out in Japan (on PC?), all look like reskins with different themes.

There is still a lack of content. Having a lot of weapons-armours that cost a lot of XP to train is a cheap grinding way for a game that has 10 enemies (splitted in 4 enemy tipes) and forces to repeat the same 10 fights again and again, scaling the difficulty. If instead of being the last boss level 50, it was level 200, forcing you to repeat the generation thing up to 30 hours, the game will have more content? Obviously no. Only more grinding.

There is only a real crossroad in the whole game, and 2 optional fights. There is a obvious lack of content. You can think of it as a 8 hour long game, but in reality is like a 20 minutes game, plus some hours of grinding.

Fair enough, but the way I see it, it's one of those games like Space Miner, where basically the whole game is spent blowing up asteroids, to collect money, to buy better equipment to blow up more complicated asteroids to collect more money to buy better equipment, and so on. I never saw it like some huge open world game with a large map to explore.

Poker Invaders looks nice... Anyone bought it yet? Impressions?

Also, re: Tiny Wings. I think there is a glitch with the Fever Mode for 34 secs achievement. If you get a notification (text message or other) while in fever mode, the counter apparently keeps going. When I dismissed the notification, the achievement popped up.

Still can't get 175k though... I'm close!

The teaser site Square put up about FF3 said it would be out in March. Is there any idea on a hard date for it's release? Also, at the same time that teaser site went up there was a rumor that FF:Tactics would also get an iOS release. Did anyone follow-up on that, and see if it's a reality?

I'm really digging Kairosoft's Hot Springs Story and looking forward to their next game already.

The meat of the game is perfecting your sword-fighting skills. If the game's a grind to you, then you're expecting things out of it that it will never give you, it just might not be your kind of game. I'm at Bloodline 21 or so now, been playing for a while now with everything maxed out (got all xp out of all gear, got the infinity blade) and it's still my favorite game, especially with the awesome difficulty level atm.

Complaining about lack of content is almost like complaining about the variety of fruit in Fruit Ninja: it wouldn't fix it for you if they added more content if you're not digging the core gameplay.

Lanterns in Hot Springs Story update: I don't know which group I made happy enough but eventually a Stonecutter sent me a proposal and I was able to add them.

Still haven't raised my <3 bonus from the spa or jacuzzi above 1 though..not sure what that takes.

Sailboat Championship Pro for iPad and IPhone are both 99 cents. 1 day only.

Lowest price ever for the iPad version I believe.

It's really a fun sailboat racing game, has GameCenter too.
There's a lite version for iPhone to try if you need it.

More or less. But the pacing is different in Space Miner. There are new gameplay elements and different scenarios later on (even after several hours of game), instead of getting all the content in the first 20 minutes and then repeat increase the difficulty.

Infinity Blade will be enhanced a lot if they present different kind of enemies in different plays (instead of spending the 4 enemy types in the first playthrough), and also changing the localization of the enemies, with different intro cinematics for them, and a few more crossroads to allow different walkthroughs.

Am I the only one that much prefers Real Racing to Real Racing 2? Just feels a lot faster, and a lot more exciting to me. (same car btw, so it's not just because I was in the top cars and you start out lower in Real Racing 2!)

Was there ever an explanation for why the full Lumines game was removed from the app store while the demo was unaffected? I was going to buy it with the gift card I got a few weeks ago but couldn't find it.

I had asked him about it in a tweet, but he never responded. Not that I deserve an answer or anything, but some sort of explanation would be nice.

So apparetly Hot Springs Story ends at the end of Month 3 in Year 16. I finished with 176,064 and a max yen of 4,616,826 -- max Scenery was 67 I think (forgot to include this initially). The Michelin Guide is tough to be rated well in. :(

My final thoughts: It probably isn't quite as good as Game Dev Story just because it lacks that compellingness of creating a video game that naturally we of all people would love. I like the various unlocks you can do (eventually found "Silky Smooth" for the baths for instance) but a little more info would have been nice.

Has anybody here tried out Aleste? All I have to go by is the guy who has reviewed it on the site, but there's only one review.

I played GG Aleste on the Game Gear as a kid and loved that. GG was a sequel/ successor though I think, and looks much more exciting in comparison.

It's a vertical-scrolling space shooter, you control both flight and attack (I think). Quite pricey though for something that's relatively underexposed.

Seeing as nobody replied, I thought I bring a video along to see if it jogs anybodies memory!

You mean like playing it with the phone on its side? If so, all you have to do is... turn the phone on its side.

Fruit Frenzy appears to be free today. I saw them talk about it on Kotaku and was interested in trying it. Free is my favourite "try it" price. :)

.. just grabbed Poker Invaders too. Looks like a fun idea.

Thanks, bought the iPad release :)

With the Ipad 2 most likely being announced tomorrow what is everyone hoping for? Personally I know most people want faster processors, better GPU, resoultion etc etc but as someone that has never bought an IPad I am wishing for.

1. $100 price drop
2. 30ish GB or better HDD as the new minimum
3. On sale within a month

All seem realistic and all have been rumored.

Not to sound trollish but I'm hoping they show a reason for owning one. At least for me, I really don't see the point of it when I have a smartphone for on the go and a computer for stationed work. My mother has one, my brother has one, I'm a huge tech enthusiast but I see no real reason to own one.

That's just me personally, I know some people love it for browsing, replacing a computer for casual users or using it to run around and collaborate in office settings. I hope to see some cooler, more unique capabilities.

It's definitely much faster and runs at higher framerate too. Looks like ass in comparison though. I bet you get to have much better sense of speed in faster cars in RR2 though, I just never had time to play it enough to progress that far.

Nope, it came out on the US store yesterday for $3.99. It's apparently 23% off the final price currently.

I don't think it's actually discounted in the US

it looks like it just got whatever the current description in Japan is since it wasn't released here it just got an update and then showed up on the US store now that it's available in English

wonder if that's one of the things you can control as a dev? select which countries get your game and then as you progress push it out to more stores

Playing stuff like Monopoly or Scrabble on an iPad is a hell of a lot better than an iPod. You could argue the real games themselves are better still, but I'd rather not have to deal with sorting/counting money and all the table space, cleaning it, storing it, and the instant save/resume of the electronic game is rather nice too.

They're much better for interactive books, and also more enjoyable for watching multimedia and light browsing on. And the battery is pretty nice too.

Agreed I am getting an Ipad and not an Iphone for all those reasons as well as the fact that I can get an Ipad and not be forced to sign up for a multi year contract for a service I really do not want. Most of the smart phones just seem like they are for chumps to me(again to me I am not trying to insult anyone). I mean they do not offer that many services that seem worth the $20-$50+ they add a month on to your contract in addition to $100s paid up front. The Ipad meanwhile costs me a 1 time up front few hundred and I get a large screen to play games on, watch movies, play board games and read books just to name a few things.

Slingo Supreme is free today, seems enjoyable enough. An extremely casual game, cross between slots and bingo, with all sorts of modes and power ups and unlockables. Played it briefly and it seems polished, no obtrusive in-app purchasing (at all) that I noticed right off the back.

I'm with you. I already have an iPhone and don't really see the need to drop a couple hundred dollars to get a larger screen with less features (compared to the iPhone).

*Obligatory: But that's just me/my opinion/diffr'nt strokes/etc.

In fact, it reminds me of how I went into an Apple store the day after the iPad released (took a co-worker in to get their iPhone worked on). Anyhoo, while waiting I started messing around with one of the iPads that were on display. An Apple sales rep walked up and asked me "Isn't it the greatest thing?!?!" I looked at her and replied, "I already have one." Her eyes lit up and a huge smile came across her face. I continued by saying, "It's right here on my hip (pointing to my iPhone), except mine is more portable, can take video/pics and I can even make phone calls with it". Her bright eyes and cheery disposition were immediately replaced by a downcast disposition.

It was obvious I hurt her feelings (which was not my intention in any way). It goes without saying that I was left alone for the rest of my time in the Apple store that day...

Not everyone wants to do everything on a cell phone sized screen. It's nice to have something to bridge the gap between smart phone and laptop.

I am looking forward to the iPad 2 announcement tomorrow! The one thing I hope it'll do is help keep the TellTale titles from being very choppy.

Here's sneak peak at
the upcoming update to my iphone game Rollatron 1. I had a chance to tweak the gfx.
game will be free 1st week after update so I'll bump this when it's out.

Yea, if you watch the youtube video though, it's pretty impressive. Looks awful in those stills, amazing on the youtube (with some framerate issues to be worked out hopefully). Still, the thing looks slick at first glance in motion, all the menus and tracks, etc.

it looks pretty good motion. For $2.99 or less I'd probably hit it.

Question for Battlehearts vets: Is there any bonus for upgrading rather than just buying new? It just yields the exact same item, right? Is the upgrade cost basically old item value + re-sale of original item?

This is my hope as well. The iPad was made to play point and click adventure games and i really want to play back to the future.

Upgrading is much more expensive than simply buying the item you want (correct me if I'm wrong; I'm pretty sure it's more expensive than purchase price + resell of old armour).

The drawback to that is you need to wait until the game deems your level is worthy enough of buying certain level things. But by upgrading, you can max them out as early as you have the money.

Since I'm a big Fight Night fan, I bought the game. It's actually pretty good, better than I expected. Controls are really intuitive, and even though I don't like using tilting to move the boxer, it worked well when I raised the sensitivity. It feels like Fight Night, so I think that's the most important thing. You get most of the moves, they are easy to pull off and the weight of each blow is satisfying.

I also recommend changing the camera to referee or over the shoulder, since the default is too zoomed out. To my liking anyway.

Definitely a good effort from EA.

Apparently 100 Rogues ver 2.6 has been submitted and should hopefully be out by the end of the week. A number of bug fixes, and I believe a new mode, though I can't find the source now.

100 Rogues update is up in NA. New difficulty mode, etc. <3

Dunno if this is the right place to ask this, but I just grabbed a Motorola xoom and I'm currently loving this thing, but I'm looking for some games that take advantage of its new tegra

So far I have some whacky samurai HD game and have snes up andrunning. Anyone get one of these?

PS sorry for the bizarre formatting. Still learning to type on it :-)
