I'm slightly suprised by Rainbow Six, they came up with a plausible explanation as to how/why the camera goes into 3rd person when in cover.

there's a little hover drone following you - you can even see it in game apparently

accelerometer aiming supported out of the box, it's nice for little corrections before lining up a shot.

So far it's basically a slightly less linear R6:V lite ported to iphone. 3 man team, lots of scripted moments, and missions all tend to have the same layout for tangos. T

Though it does seem to be a little flexible in terms of how you approach things, some objectives have multiple paths/doors you can breach.

There is a bewildering abound of stuff. Check out this thread for some cool recommendations - http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=413499

Personally, my favourite music apps are

Argon, a nice standalone synth
NanoStudio, a great production suite with some really versatile synth and sequencing options
Reactable, a cool 'toy', an iPhone version of this crazy table thing Bjork used on her last tour.

Reese-015 also swears by Beatmaker 2 but I've not used it yet. That dude knows his shit though so I take his word for it.

Thank you, I will look into these ones, and read through that thread.

I saw Get Outta My Galaxy on TA earlier and it's as fun as they say it is. You run around a spherical planet (like Mario Galaxy or the side planets in the last Ratchet and Clank) using the accelerometer and slap the shit out of aliens. Awesome graphics, the level design is better than you'd think and the aliens do some pretty clever stuff. Not bad for 99 cents.

Does it feel any different than their other shooters like Modern Combat? My experience is their shooters all feel and play so similar. I'd want this for the slower and tactical gameplay but if it's just a facade for the same old than I'd be disappointed.

I picked up Tapper World Tour, Land a Panda and Overkill today. All three were pretty fun and a good value for the price. I can see myself playing Tapper a bit due to it's fast, arcadey nature. The graphics are pretty great too.

How do you search for sub-categories in the iPad's app store? For example, on the iPhone I go to categories, games, board games. Am I not seeing a tab or button?
Well, it turns out you can search for sub-categories but only as part of an actual search, so unlike on my iPhone where I can just look through board games I can't on the iPad. Ergo, what are the best board games on the iPad? I have Carcassonne and Neuroshima Hex. I'm waiting on an EA price dump before I get any of their games, although Scrabble is really the only one I want (already played Yahtzee Adventures, which was fun).

Are the Reiner Wolfcastle card/dice games any good? Has anyone else played Small World? I'd get Catan HD but the reviews after the recent update are extremely negative.

i only have an itouch but i've heard very good things about viking lords which uses the commands & colors system (unofficially unfortunately)

kingsburg is on there too awesome board game but i can't speak to the implementation as i never picked it up. samurai (knizia) is a tad ugly (imo) but a very good game with excellent ai. tichu is very nice if you are down for a card game.

So far my favorite ipad game is an iphone/ipod game. Hot Springs Story doesn't have an ipad version, but if you zoom all the way out the main screen it actually looks really damn good on the ipad. The menus are big and a bit blurry as most blown up iphone games are, but that isn't what you spend most of the game looking at anyway.

Another shocker for me was the actual universal game Aralon. The characters are ugly as hell, but the world looks amazing, the menus all get rejigged to work with the ipad. Great stuff.

What do you mean about the commands and colors thing? Visually it looks nice, though.

If the review is to be trusted (eh) Kingsburg doesn't scale to iPad well so I'll wait on that (or get it for the phone). I'll try the other two, too, thanks.

edit: Kingsburg's app info says an iPad version is coming so I'll definitely wait in case it goes the HD route.

To be fair, there are barely any (if at all) ipad exclusive games that don't have an ipod/iphone version. Jubeat Plus was ipad exclusive for around 3-4 months until a hard-to-play ipod/iphone version came out.

Fking osmosis for iPad. Did it even go on sale? Wasn't 99c duringappshoppersnotification even when the description (on iTunes) says it's on sale @ 80% off and Now it's not on sale anymore.

Just buy it cheapskate. Skip the next crappy $60 xbox game.

I want a game for iPad that I don't have to pay 100% attention to while I play (so I can still watch TV and such.) So something turn based or slow paced would do.

I love sims, but 95% of them these days are that timer shit. I don't want schedule my life around a game, thanks.

Any recommendations?

Too distracting, it has that addictive 'just one more go' appeal and the next time he looked up from it the credits would be rolling on his TV show.

Game Dev/Hot Spring Story, maybe?

Played both of those to death as well. :(

I wish PopCap would get their shit together. Robert, yell at Jeff for me on the next Out of the Game.

Civilization Revolution (though it's a bit pricey) and Battle of Wesnoth.

Do you like spelling? WordJong was an old iOS-Age favorite from the App Store's infancy.

Build-A-Lot 2 is really good too as far as low maintenance games go.

Are there story-heavy adventure games like 999, Phoenix Wright, and Ghost Trick on iPhone? I may have asked this before, but I don't seem to remember a lot of replies. Obviously, I know that PW and Ghost Trick are available on the store, but I'm looking for something original for iPhone.

Yeah but they all suck much worse than the games you mentioned.

1112 episode 1 and 2 & if you have an ipad drawn the painted tower

Apparently this came out last week, I just saw Planet Work by Capcom in the app store. It's a pretty and simple action game, you have a vacuum and walk around sucking up enemies and garbage to restore color. One finger moves anywhere, a tap is stationary and two fingers is power move.

It's fun and the first few levels are free. Worth trying, it's cute and fun! Seems like Get Outta My Galaxy will stand it up though.

I wonder if there is any achievement/unlock for this because I am getting really close to beating the God King (lvl 300) with The Touch of Death, one of the most expensive but at the same time absolute worst and certainly the most ridiculous looking sword in the game.

I so rule at this game. You're all gonna die when multiplayer comes out.

Unfortunately no, that was just the devs giving you the finger. But there's one for killing him with the
useless +1 dmg Ruin
sword. :p

Haha. Shit... Hmmm... An achievement or just an unlock? Cause I got an achievement for doing that in just a normal battle... Is that the one? Or is there a specific one for the God King?

There's a specific hidden achievement for that fight/combination.

I picked up 6th Planet some time ago because of the cool Monkey icon and the interesting looking concept (half comic book, half Thrust-like space game).

Just started playing it yesterday, and it's really good. The music gives it a hell of a good start, but the gameplay is actually pretty cool too, and the whole presentation with the comic book interludes is really nice. Not got too far yet, only on the third chapter or so, but the story is interesting (I like sci-fi!) and the game part has gotten challenging too. Definitely worth some yennage.

I got Necromancer Rising, and is the most unuser-friendly game that I've seen EVER.

That guy needs a interface designer, because it makes the game nearly unplayable. From the start, it seems that all the decisions are taken to make the people flee away from that game.

Cant shake the urge to buy a Korg app despite having no musical abilities whatsoever.
I bought the MS-20 app despite being musically illiterate and I don't regret a thing!

Garageband is also pretty cool, even if you can't string two notes together.

Man, I really want an iPad but only for the music apps which i know in my heart of hearts is not really worth it. Curse my brain for wanting things!

My favorite TD games are:

The Creeps - excellent path based system, tons of character, and 3 different game modes.

Trenches Vs/Stenches - Trenches is US vs Germans and campaigns on both sides. Stenches is US vs Zombies. Its a unique take on TD as you have to move troops into trenches and then can upgrade the trenches to provide more defense. The different types of soldiers can upgrade, too.

Defender Chronicles - I like how its vertical, but its pretty difficult.

And then to branch out a bit:

Crystal War - this game is really fun, but is more of an Attack/Defend a Boss You are constantly building troops, and they constantly go forwards. I still haven't finished the Goblin campaign, the last two missions have been very difficult to finish.

I hate to give credit to something that's such a blatant ripoff, but Pilot Winds is superior to Tiny Wings in every single way except art/style. It's universal for 99c, too. I found it so much better and deeper than Tiny Wings, I've deleted the latter from my iPad because I can't imagine why I'd play it anymore.

Ewww, no man this game controls like ass. Tiny Wings is 100% better imo. It says on the page that it's been in development for a year, if so I feel sorry for the dev getting pipped to the post by the surprise hit of the year.

Guys, fast answer: Espgaluda or DoDonPachi (don't tell me both please :P)

I have gone a bit crazy buying stuff and I'm going to buy one of those before I start feeling remorse. So far:

Ports of Call
Tiny Wings
Plants vs Zombies
Minotaur
Speedball II
Weird Worlds
Space Miner
Battleheart
