Well, the wife got me an ipod touch 4g and already bought a few light games (angry birds, flight control, fruit ninja, etc.) but I'm looking at something meatier, ideally a sim, point & click adventure or rpg (hopefully no on screen controls either), any suggestions?

Beneath a Steel SKy Remastered is iPhone only, Spider and The Secret of Bryce Manor, Crimson Gem Saga for all your JRPG needs and Trainyard for one of the best puzzlers i've ever played.

Will look into these, thanks.

Works fine on the most recent iOS4 on the iPhone! Can't say if the same is true for the iPad, but my save game and everything loads fine.

Assuming it works for you, I'm pretty confident in saying you won't regret your purchase (so long as you enjoy card & RPG games).
Thanks, and to Diablohead too.
Tonight at home I will dl and try out anyway :)

Edit:
While we are at it, wanna add that Physics Cat is a little hidden gem, addictive and FREE atm :)

Since there are almost 2 free good games everyday, do you still buy games on the AppStore ? I use my iPhone for gaming on the side and I haven't bought a single game even on sale for ages.

There's no drought of good or interesting free games. Plus with the freemiums and games free but containing ads I wonder if devs still expect me to pay to play their games. I like this trend (on iPhone) but I wonder where this model is going and if it's sustainable for everyone.

All the time. Because the free games are not always good, though I download the ones I have an interest in certainly when they're free if I don't own them already.

Some stuff will never be free. Or if by some miracle of Jobs it is free it will be long after my patience for it will last. Most recent purchases are Riven, Angry Birds Seasons (free on Android, ad-supported, wish it were free here but it's only $1), Perfect Cell, Puzzle Quest 2, and Shift 2.

Of all of those I believe Shift 2 will be free some day, but none of the others.

Of course I do. I appreciate quality games and support the devs that make them.

hell yea i buy games. whenever i get the feeling that 99 cents is too much, i think about the starbucks coffee i bought that morning.

i feel pretty spoiled to be honest. i don't think there's ever been a handheld/console to have such quality games for the price.

ios is disruptive indeed.

I'm the total opposite. I buy almost all of my games and rarely download the free ones (unless there are full games like Star Dunk Gold that go free for a day or so...heck I got Tilt to Live for free last summer). The straight up free games are usually garbage. If it's just a lite version of a game I like, I'll buy the full version.

Paying anywhere from $1-$10 for games is absolutely nothing for me. I see people complain about prices here and there, which just boggle my mind. Half of the people that take up their pitch forks and hurl insults at developers for a $0.99 game not matching the full blown AAA-ness of a $60 game are probably the same people that spend $20 on two drinks and popcorn at a movie theater.

I feel bad for developers who work their tails off, put out a great game, and sell their games at $2.99-$4.99 but get raked over the coals by App Store reviewers, insisting they are horrible human beings for trying to make a decent living.

Yeah I'm not talking about free games from the start (which aren't good except for some freemiums and ad-based games) but games that become free for a day.

Following these operations make me discover one or two good games every day thus I don't know where I'd find the time to buy more games for the device.

Nice to see people buy (lenghty) games then but personally my iPhone is not where I play those.

I buy far too many games.
Every time I'm on the fence I fall for the "but even a coffe/soda/sandwich would cost me more".

Lenghty games? Not for me, I mean besides adventures and the odd original effort, I mostly buy "arcade" games so I guess it'd be a 20/80 split.
I love score attacks and leaderboards.

Do you mean Cat physics by donut games? if so, yes, it's really good. In fact, now I'm tempted on some of their other non free games

Yeah, I've filled up my iPod multiple times over with free games of both types you mentioned. I seriously don't see any reason to buy anything when there's a chance it could go free.

Let's Golf! 2
Shadow Guardian
Rayman 2: The Great Escape

So which one of these are worth a damn?

And I wish FFT would hurry up and come out. I have $11 in my iTunes account just for you!

Hmm... Lumines is not on the app store atm. Only the lite version is. How come?

No idea. No one from Q Entertainment replied to my tweet about why it was missing. Either they are just getting out of the App Store business, there is an update coming, or a newer version is coming out. Not sure which one of those would be the case.

This Gameloft sale is kind of funny in light of:

Guillemot says having a large publisher like EA splashing the App Store with a sale like that is "harder on small companies." He also worries that if events like this – which were heavily promoted in the App Store – further drive down prices, innovation will suffer. "Good enough," as Guillemot calls it, will settle in as a mindset in developers worried that spending extra time and money on innovation and quality just isn't worth it when you're going up against publishers able to subsidize 99-cent games.

ha. tell me about it. I'm still trying to get gold on the two packs. I have silver on all and gold on a few. Boggles my mind that they've just gone silent on it.

If you've never played Monkey Island before, go for those.

Everyone vote for Eternal Legacy
Game is ok but no, vote for a better title :P (i paid full price for EL, it just has some rough edges and voice acting.)

I've been thinking about getting into some old space sims/shooters/4x (I know, that's broad) on the PC/Mac, and thought I might first check to see what's available on iOS. Apparently, quite a bit:

Opinions? I'm about to check out the demos for each. Anything else?

So thanks to this video from Tested I grabbed Dungeon Raid. It's a pretty cool little RPG match 3 game. Kinda like Puzzle Quest but with this you draw a line through the different objects, gold, potions, weapons and enemies etc. Check out the video (it's at the very end) if you want to see what it plays like.

I assume Gameloft are just trying to beat EA at price wars, but I don't see it working, somehow.

As long as the consumer is saving money

You really want to make me cry. Star Battalion is a great game, especially it you like starfox but the real gem is

GALAXY ON FIRE 2

It is a universal app for the ipod touch/iphone and ipad which makes it a great deal.

Star Battalion and Galaxy on fire 2 are the two games that will never leave my iphone.

Oh you should check out the Star Battalion Comic on the app store.

Space Miner is the bomb. I claimed it was the first 'complete' and original game that legitimised iPhone as a serious gaming platform.

Really don't care what anyone says I am enjoying a lot of gamelot's games and right now Scared Odyssey is quite good. Cannot wait to try StarFront in the next 2 weeks.

How did I know that was a Donut Games game just from the look of it? Is that a good thing or a bad thing that their games look so similar in style?

Insight into my mind when pondering a purchase is as follows: Dunno, but I think I may check it out, definitely going in the AppShopper wishlist to remind me of it. But...as has been mentioned...it is only a buck. Same price as the 16oz Lipton I bought today... why not?

The reviews in the app site for Shadow Guardian scared me away so I never got it. But Gameloft has some decent games Spiderman is really good and it is a buck.

Shadow Guardian HD is fucking terrible.

Why do people say Gameloft make decent games.
Why don't I learn my lesson.

dream said:
I picked up Shadow Guardian out of sheer holiday boredom and thought it was terrible.

I warned everyone. :/

I think the "oh wow I'm playing <whatever console title they're ripping off> on my iPhone" thing tricks people into overlooking the shitty gameplay and terrible level design.
