I just did something I never do - I bought a game, for $0.99, without reading any other thoughts or impressions. It is by Fingerlab and is called Albert.

http://www.fingerlab.net/website/Fingerlab/Albert.html

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/albert/id412786607?mt=8&ign-mpt=uo=4

There is also a lite version here:

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/albert-lite/id415467283?mt=8

The graphical concept alone caught my eye:

The HD Graphics were made from 1000 pieces of cardboard, sliced, glued, photographed and animated by hand. Which is what makes this game unique.

It's a very basic game, but I just love the concept for some reason. It is awesome to look at, and the mini-games work fine as well. At the very least check out the free version.

Couple of quick notes:

Soosiz is getting a Retina update along with Gamecenter

Q isn't working on anything Lumines iPhone related at the moment per Mielke

So I downloaded this game when it was free but have since deleted it. If I redownload it, will I have to pay?

Also Cut the Rope got a Valentines Day update.

Grabbed Match Box; looks like my kind of thing and digging the art style - happy to help a fellow Gaffer with their games

YOU ROCK!

Big thanks for being the first Gaffer to buy it. I certainly appreciate it and I hope you enjoy it.

It's out tonight!

I like that score very much.

it will. forget about your backlog.
This game consumed me even when I couldn't get past the first boss. Now my party is 15-16 and I'm just crushing but it still has some challenge.

Easily one of the best games I've played on iOS. It has everything I want. Its real quick pick up and play, you can make progress in a short period of time. Plus you are always unlocking new items and skills. Then the strategy and good ole' tank, healer, dps, support type mechanics always keep me interested.

that's not how it looks on my Ipad :(
ipad is old hat compared to the iphone 4, seems a bit reversed being it's the most expensive of the two yet it's 1 step behind in both os features and power now.

I am going to guess that on the ipad it's running without any kind of anti-analyzing and maybe at a lower draw distance, right?

Of course not, assuming you use the same iTunes account you used to download it the first time obviously.

Downloading Street Fighter IV now. How's Mirror's Edge? The Sega games seem tempting, but I've played most of them. I recommend SMB2 though if you like those type of games. I also plan on picking up Infinity Blade and Battleheart, even though they aren't on sale. I've gotten so much content from that $25 iTunes giftcard I got for Christmas.

Nice. Now to wait until the inevitable next EA sale with NBA Jam included.

Speaking of which, I just did a search for NBA Jam and it came up in the name listing. When I clicke don it however, it gave me NBA Elite only. Is it on sale anywhere yet?

Mirror's Edge has been one of my favorite iOS games thus far. Though I probably don't play as many games on my phone as a lot of other people here do.

Hello GAF. Match Box is a game made by me, "published" by me. The elevator pitch is that it's "A unique speed match game with an energetic soundtrack".

You basically match sets of boxes, while the music acts as the timer. At first you're just matching 2 pairs, but as you progress, you'll be matching up to 10 pairs, which is pretty darn hard to do. Each of the 5 songs is faster than the previous one, which means the timer essentially goes faster. The sequence of patterns gets harder from level to level as well. I've also included Game Center Leadearboards and Achievements.

My original inspiration was a speed match game with a Lumines style timer bar. I actually had the Lumines bar in there for a while, but it kinda confused people and didn't really add anything. So now the timer counts down along the sides with every beat of the music.

Enough with the chit chat. Here's some screen shots:

THANKS

UPDATE: Promo codes are gone now. Enjoy!

Thanks for the code! Would you like for me to share my initial impressions here or through PM?

EDIT: Check your PM, I sent my initial response. Good work so far! I just have a few suggestions that could potentially take it to another level.

Mirror's Edge is quite impressive with it's control scheme. Right up there with Canabalt and Infinity Blade in that it seems to embrace the touch screen, rather than trying to duct tape a clunky d-pad interface somewhere.

sega sale is sort of a given since in the UK charts Sonic 4 was dropping out of the top 200 list at #199, sonic 1 however is still in like the top 50 all the time lol, shows quality over newness.

and WOW street fighter 4 for 59pence, can't say no to that.

Got NFS:Shift (seemed to be the best iOS NFS game from what I gather) and SFIV. Damn awesome sale.
shift isn't too hot, it's a good game and worth it's price but the iOS hot persuit is 10 times better, seriously. Try and buy HP when it is on sale.

Damn, this capcom sale is awesome. Just bought SFIV, Dead Rising, DMC, RE4 and Pheonix Wright. All for $5, so good :)

wow damn you Capcom I just bought DMC for $2 last week (and Dead Rising) :-(
Oh well, you only lost $2

I admit, Battleheart is pretty entertaining. What incentive do I have to switch from my beginning 4 characters though? They're pretty rad right now.

Local multiplayer confirmed! :D

UPDATE: Promo codes are gone now. Enjoy!

I had a few minutes here during work to give it a shot. Great job so far! I think you have something special on your hands here with a few more bits of polish. I think that if you were able to integrate some sort of musical feedback for making a match or making a match in a certain time...musical feedback that also fits in with the soundtrack, that would be pretty cool.

When you touch a block, you current don't get any sort of feedback sonically. It just sort of disappears (you do have a visual effect). If you created some sort of sound when you made a match and maybe a cooler special effect than is currently in place, this could really reach Lumines levels in terms of polish and trance like audio and immersion.

The sound effects wouldn't need to be too...distracting. Maybe just enough to where you feel like you are influencing the music AS you are completing the puzzle. Even if it's a cool chime or a beat or something. I might even be cool for the squares have a highlight or a glow around them once you select them.

I know most of these are just minor touches but usually that's what separates the games like Lumines (since you mention that as a game that influenced yours) and other puzzle games from the rest.

It would almost be a combo of a Rhythm Heaven with a Lumines splash to it.

I like the foundation here from what you've already got.

I second this. I really don't like driving games but Hot Pursuit is a really well fleshed-out product. Great portable game.

Ok, thank you so much guys, Swords and Poker 2 is friggin incredible, such a fleshed out game could easily be sold for $29 on NDS! I can't imagine how good it would be with multiplayer, even on the same device.
Anyway, two questions:
How do I replenish the coin recharger? With coins/gems I get defeating enemies, and if yes how many? I also don't get what the difference is between crystal gems and coins and what do I do with the Copper gems.

Again, thanks for bringing this games up ITT! :)

I thought Sonic 4 on the PS3 was a very good game so I decided, $2.99 for the iOS version, why not? Ducking complete garbage due to the sub 25fps. Who the fuck thought this was a good idea? No reason why it shouldn't be running at 30 or even 60fps with ease!!!!! Didn't they say this was the lead platform? I don't believe that for a minute.

If you can't take control over whatever player is holding the ball, like you could in the original, then no matter what I won't like it. That's the sole reason I couldn't enjoy the game on the Wii besides a good first impression that lasted for half an hour tops :(

yea. i ended up returning the game on 360 for this point alone. i hope they fixed it on iphone, but somehow i doubt it.

Using a gem (bottom right) replenishes your health (coins). Gems are worth money at the end of a floor if you have any leftover. You get a set amount per floor and can find additional ones sometimes in chests.

All the gems are sold for cash to buy weapons/health/shields at the end of a floor. Beating all the monsters gets you bonus cash too, and a crown icon ;)

Bought Mirror's Edge, Dragon's Lair, Spider-Man: Total Mayhem, and ChuChu Rocket! Thinking of picking up Phoenix Wright though I played the DS version already.

Does anyone else wish their iPhone was waterproof so that they could play it in the shower???

pretty sure you can get a waterproof case

at least there is one for if you want to go swimming with it (also waterproof earbuds)

rather costly though otherwise I'd probably have a set by now since I enjoy swimming more for a workout than a treadmill :p

Crap crap crap

All these sales and I happen to be out of town the whole weekend. I'm at a hotel right now with crummy wireless and just my iPod.

Is there any way I can purchase a game without having to download it? I thought about just buying them through iTunes and then letting the downloads crap out, then when I get back home I would download them again.

Is there an easier way to buy and not instantly start the download?

I think once you register a buy it's there for good even if you do it over an idevice, can't see why not you officially paid them so.

Or have someone gift a few games to your account, no idea if that is region limited or not.

Ok thanks Diablo. I bought sf4, phoenix wright, and dmc4. They are all sitting on my home screen saying waiting while sf4 sits at a frozen loading state. Hopefully my purchases at least went through.

EDIT: for those with hot pursuit, does it have a touch steer control scheme? I really don't like tilt to steer.

i went kayaking and my iphone4 was in my pocket. fell in twice.

placed the iphone in a bag of rice overnight.

next morning it worked but kept flashing error messages about a 3rd party device being attached.

looked at dock connectors, sea water evaporated onto the ports forming a crust of salt.

scraped salt off, phone worked just like new.

hows Lord of the Rings: Middle Earth Defense?

saw the review about in-game purchase for second chance which back me off from buying.
