NBA Jam for Ipad. Does it exist?
No :(
I'm gonna wait as well, EA has done it before (first iPhone version, then after a while a non-Universal iPad app.

Btw, NAMCO SALE til Valentine's Day.
Basically every Namco gamd has dropped in price, but assuming you already got Bit Trip (awesome), Pac Man CE and Puzzle Quest 2 then I don't see other good games. I love mr Driller but I've never tried the iOS one.

There's probably merit, but those are still just rumors. Nothing confirmed yet.

rumors of course, no one claims it was confirmed. But it stands to reason as the displays would just be cost prohibitive at this point to put in the upcoming ipad 2. The increase in processing power and graphics will be nice.

don't expect a slightly increase resolution for ipad 2. it's either double or nothing.

aside from that one bit, the other rumors seem to make sense.

It is crazy to take any rumor as fact, and to even hope they will turn out to be fact. If all previous rumors of iOS devices came true, both the iPhone 4 and the current iPad would be very different devices than we have now.

Well, saying you know it as fact kinda leads to 'confirmed.'

Also agree with LC, I doubt we'll see a res bump in iPad2, You're right though, a spec bump will be nice.

World Of Goo HD is a whole fuggin' dollar right now. One Day Only Sale!

Fuck, I don't own an iPad, but by the off-chance that iPad 2 is everything I want in a tablet, I'd better buy it.

It only held my attention for a bit. As a Wipeout fan, I like Speed Forge Extreme a lot more, it's one of those few iphone games that I still play a lot after having it for about a year. It's only $0.99 and it has a pretty damn big range of tracks and graphics that are both technically and artistically much above average. No other futuristic racer comes close on the iPhone.

One word of advice though: turn off motion blur, it's kinda pretty but ruins the game's framerate. Luckily, the game is a great smooth experience without it. There's some aliasing and it doesn't support retina but that really hasn't bothered me.

do you have to tilt the phone to play it like that?

Same here I've been buying up the iPad only apps for that fateful day when i finally buy the 3rd revision iPad that will feature a retina display comparable to that of the current iphone 4. iPad 2 will have increased resolution but not quite incredible as the 3rd rev screen.
Ya, this is totally feasible. They'll increase the resolution 2 years in a row! Meaning in 2012 the ipad will have a resolution of 4096*3072!! 6 times the resolution of an HD TV!!!

No mames, wey :)

Interesting, though not surprising article about sales, iOS first month (has it even been a month yet?) at a record 125,000 copies (iPad only... probably 3x that if it were universal I think). I believe this doesn't count the sales from this recent 99c sale too. For comparison it sold at most 97,000 on PC and 68,000 on Wii in the first months the article states.

Hopefully the huge success on the iPad means they'll port it over to the iPod/iPhones too, as the last article I read they were saying it wasn't likely to happen due to the pricing difference in markets (iPhone market being too cheap for them to be profitable).

Nope. Speed Forge's controls can be switched to touch steering (you can even choose between different combinations of tilt, buttons or a slider, which feels the same as how some games do it with a steering wheel). I use the slider. Tilt works surprisingly well too but I don't think I could have gotten anywhere near the top tens in the leaderboards with tilt controls.

Right off the bat, World of Goo HD should probably have a *, so I don't know how much faith to put in their * system.

More a question in regards to development but:
How close to the metal do iPhone devs usually take things? If you start messing around too much with arm assembly and whatnot, is there danger that compatibility between iPhone models do get lost? Do devs release different builds for the store to separate between for different model users?

I didn't know Game Dev Story was 99c. The description says it is universal, but it doesn't show up as universal on the Appstore. Is it possible that it is and they haven't checked off the appstore mark?

the description is an unfortunate translation error, I think. it's "universal" in that it will run as an iphone app and you cab double scale it... yeah.

it's not really universal. if it was, we'd see the familiar "+" icon next to the buy button.

I figured as much. I was just secretly hoping that that "+" only showed up if you correctly checked some box in a .plist somewhere...

One other unrelated question to anyone willing to answer:

How are gift purchases handled? Do they have to be in the same store? I remember that they did used to be, but was wondering if that changed in light of Promo codes being cross-country compatible.

Also, when does the app get charged - the moment you gift it, or when they redeem? And if it's when they redeem, does it take the current app price or the price when the code was generated?

Reading at the description and reviews of NBA JAM in the App Store, they list several IAP packages to buy separate like the different divisions, etc; is this something you need to buy in order to play the game or you can unlock this packages playing the game and if you want to unlock them early you can buy them ?

They are typical EA "Cheat Codes". You can get everything by playing the game.

Wow, looks like I'll be spending some iTunes credit tonight.

Bought SF4 yesterday. Don't really know why. It's a neat port, but I don't know if I'll ever play it or if I ever wanted to play Street Fighter on the go. I'm sure I'll get my money's worth if you cost it out versus what it would cost to play in the arcade.

hm may have to pick up Hybrid 2 even though I am still trying to finish like 3 rpg's on the go here! but I loved the first game and this continues the story so I want it.

Also street fighter is a great portable game, beat arcade mode with sagat while on the loo :P

Not a dev (just a tech nerd), but afaik ARM and PowerVR stuff is good about backwards compatibility, but you might run into issues with the OS versions. Like if you require Game Center (or some other 4.x feature), it won't work on iOS before 4.x, and iPhone 3G. There are also some older games that haven't been updated that break on 4.x for whatever reason. There might be particular rules you have to watch out for but I'm not sure on that, just read the agreement carefully I guess.

The only differentiation I've seen on the store for the most part is "HD" versions (which sometimes includes the iPhone 4/iPod touch 4th gen), not sure I've seen anything separate for way old devices like the 3G or older OS releases. It generally seems to be a choice of supporting older stuff with the same release or not at all. Probably don't want to spend extra resources on something that isn't going anywhere.

Good to know...still I'll probably hold off until it goes on sale. Perhaps a "shamrock special" sale in March, or an "easter extravaganza" in April, or just a fire sale for iPad apps to prepare for the next iPad launch. Anyone tried playing it on an iPad yet? I'm sure it looks like ass, just wondering if the controls work ok scaled up.

I bought World of Goo even though I don't have an iPad (yet, getting the iPad 2 definitely).

Don't even know what it is though people won't shut up about it today so figured I'd bite and not regret it later.

I'm playing NBA JAM on my iPad at the moment. Graphics do look like ass but it controls really good. It sucks that they don't make all games universal or at least release both games at the same time, iPhone and iPad, that way we get to choose which one to buy.

Holy cow that's an awesome take for an oldie but goldie. Sucks I won't be able to play it on the pad :/

Guys, how's Split/Second? Is it much worse than the psp port?
Edit: oh my god it's AWFUL hahahah what a wreck.

Speed Forge is on sale at €0,79 and there's also a Lite version to try.
I wish there was an iPad/HD app tho.

i've always wondered why no one else has made a racing game look as good as speed forge does, it's obviously possible so why has no one done it? RR2 might be the closest with it's in-game motion blur but it lacks all that fancy lighting.

Backpedaling much?
Weren't you the one who replied with a cold blooded "WRONG." when it was said you couldn't possibly know how iPad 2 and 3 were going to shape up? What's next, iOS sales numbers with ioi's seal of quality?

For people playing NBA JAM on an iPad, activate Big Head mode and it looks much better. To unlock big head mode just finish the tutorial and activate the mode under options -> privileges.

Also, to unlock different, just like all times, enter your initials before a quick game :

- REP = REPUBLICANS
- DEM = DEMOCRATS
- MAS = MASCOTS

I love this game !

Okay Bit Trip on iPad is pretty dope. It's not a ton better than the wii version, but I am finding it to be "as good" and it certainly looks a lot better.

Wiiware version still has the awesomEST controls ever, but this is such a great, superb iPad game.
Also: Gamecenter leaderboards! (add me if you want/care Dash Kappei GAF)
Also: more levels than on Wii
Also 1/13th of the price :P

O the price is definitely the best part, but I actually prefer the controls here overall.
