I'm not sure if I can answer broadly about a game genre. perhaps adventure games with real great writing and production values.

Really, I just want Grim Fandango on the iPad. give it the same treatment as Monkey Island 2 by having commentaries. no need to redo the art or anything. they can put it out on as many platforms as they want. I just want a DD version for the iPad to play while in bed.

Grim Fandango would be amazing, but due to it's control system with the number pad it it might be difficult to implement on iOS. I would hate to see a lot of on screen controls cluttering up the game's wonderful art.

I've been eyeballing Gundabad, but want to know how it plays before I drop $2 on it.

Any impressions?

Not really interested since I don't play Dominion thus the game is worthless to me since it basically requires that, I like the more traditional ~10,000 card libraries in the MtG, rather than the 27 card deck building game this is (which is apparently a lot). Touch Arcade has impressions here, which vary depending on your familiarity with Dominion. Besides being a rip-off of Dominion, some people there do say it's pretty good.

Agree with recommendations for Galaxy on Fire 2. Also, Star Battalion is a pretty nice retina-display Starfox-esque game, and it's currently on sale for 99c.

Edit: for GoF2 players... I'm at a point where I have money in the 100K range, but cannot fathom how I ever afford the million dollar ships. i'm using the hyperdrive to jump back and forth and trade for big $$$, but it still looks like it'll take forever. should i just finish the story or what?

Start doing side missions for money. Keep going on the main story and the money should rack in.

Thanks, minsc. Will check out the linked thread.

Not a fan of Magic, just because of the time/money aspect of it. I play pokemon tcg sometimes still, but haven't bought any cards for a long time.

Maybe a digital ccg/tcg wouldn't be too bad.

Something along the lines of x-com UFO defense.
Something like this (turn-based strategy RPG with real time management bits) is pretty much what the iPad is excellent for. I haven't seen anything that even comes close.

I want the card game Dominion, very, very badly.
they should make it. there's a vs AI implementation on droid that's actually quite good, but it only has base and seaside. looks like this game only has base period. if you've really got a hankering though dominion.isotropic.org has a barebones online implementation that includes every card and is playable on iOS afaik

METAL GEAR SOLID TOUCH is on SALE for €0,79! Down from €5,99.
I have no idea how the game is tho.
Universal app too!

It's not the greatest game but I am a fan of MGS and I had fun with it, I am pretty sure there is still a demo and the game is pretty much more of a shooter, you can unlock some artwork, worth a buck for me.

which is a better game: Words with friends or scrabble?
Words with Friends

There's basically nothing they could do to make Scrabble any better than it is now, so I find that hard to believe. WWF comes with a not-scrabble layout, so that makes it lose like 20 or 30 points out of 100 right off the bat.

the brutal thing about wwf is 2p only and no stat-tracking. drives me nuts.

See scrabble has 4 player support and stat-tracking (even more comprehensive stat tracking than Carcassonne I think). Another 20-30 pts for scrabble. Also has cross iPad/iPhone support, not sure if WWF has that as well.

Scrabble can also be played on / against people on non-mobile and non-iOS devices (on anything that can use a web browser), so another 20-30 pts there as well.

Not to pile on WWF, but Scrabble also has:

Built in dictionary, including two letter words
When building your word it shows you the score for the word as you add letters
Single player mode
Not sure what is called but, a Scrabble teacher that shows you (after you have taken your turn) what the best possible move would have been.

I was a big WWF fan, and I like that it gives me notifications, and that I can play against random people, but after making the switch to Scrabble I find WWF to be sorely lacking.

See Scrabble even has notifications and random play as well. It truly is undestroyable.

Right, and I have my notifications all turned on, but I don't ever get notified. My guess is that notifications don't work if you are playing a game against someone on Facebook. (Which is another thing WWF doesn't have)

Scrabble allows me to use my iPad as a game board and iPhones as tile racks. For that reason alone, I give it 20,000 points.
This is why I bought it. Such a fucking awesome feature. And the tile rack app for iPhone is free to top it off. So just get all your buddies with an iPhone over and have a Scrabble night.

Do you know of any other board games that do this? Like using your iphone as a wallet in Monopoly, or cards in Poker?

Well I gave in and got NBA Jam...if an iPad version comes out I'll wait for that one to go to 99 cents then. A real three button layout would work on there, albeit only when the iPad has something to rest on.

Kinda wish it had a fixed dpad option, and/or a floating one like in Mushi Bug Panic. But the thing that's driving me nuts is that they took out the double tap turbo special move thing and mapped it to shaking the device, yet they left in the double tap to throw elbows, what the hell!

Just asking those who has the awesome Jubeat Plus on iPad, I'm wanting to make a Jap App Store account, but it's not letting me... can someone guide me through it?

I think the main problem (that I'm having), is the billing address... I don't know anything about Japan. D: Thankss guise :3
Look for something like "iTunes Japanese account guide", there should be a few helpful links.

odd Game Center seems to have broke on me

it's making me login to my Apple account but then keeps trying to make me set up a new account or something :-/ would this be caused by jailbreaking in anyway? :-(

Hmm I got the same earlier, it eventually let me back into my normal GameCenter account. When it happened to me the first GameCenter login box had *Sandbox* on it.

I'm jailbroken too. Just checked and it's still happening now. SANDBOX(1P42) is the text. My Games and Achievements has reset as well :/

I get that too. Then when I log out and then log in again it works. I am jailbroken too.

This is why I'll never jailbreak.

I would love a good Advance Wars clone. I've tried most of these and found them lacking in some sense or another. I'm interested in online, asynchronous multiplayer with my friends. Mecho Wars' push notifications were broken, so it was out. Rogue Planet was very good, but I found its movement mechanics to be a little broken, and there is some glitch in there where the internet games fail to load after about 30-40 turns (sucks!!). Highborn I've played, but only a bit. It's not exactly the same as AW. The others -- maybe I need to try.

Uniwar is good, but the hex-based grid is not exactly AW, and the lack of battle animations makes it a little less exciting.

Other things I want: meteos, or a true panel-de-pon (tetris attack) game.

exactly. I want a game with a good storyline, asynch multiplayer, and a good art style.

Risk sucks balls btw. Why wouldn't they just port over the risk xbla/psn game that was actually kind of fun?

Sim City kinda sucks too. Why can't large developers seem to decent iphone games?

Unspoilered and bolded. Scrabble UK has no online multiplayer whatsoever, and only allows local and Vs. CPU. Words With Friends is far better.

Wife is having trouble buying Collapse on her itouch 4. She's tried through the device and itunes, no luck. Anyone else having similar problems?

Originally the sandbox problem is due to trying to buy IAP with a game or app installed after jailbreaking, the fix was to unjail, install via iTunes then rebreak. I'm on the regular latest iOS so I can't help, no gamecenter problems here just shitty iPod touch spellcheck lol

I've had that Sandbox issue before, and I am jailbroken, but I'm still running 4.1. Basically, just close the app completely (double-tap home, hold down the icon, and press the delete button) then sign out and sign back in. You can always check the Game Center app before opening the game to make sure you're signed into the right one (I renamed my sandbox account while I was signed into it to Flunkie44SANDBOX just so I could distinguish between the two). You don't "lose" your achievements, you're just not signed into your account that has all of your achievements unlocked.

And Zombie Farm crashes indefinitely if I even think about using Game Center with it now - sandbox or no sandbox mode (it was one of the main games that I had the sandbox issue with).

Also, Scrabble > Words with Friends.. no question. You can play with people on Facebook!

Playing NBA Jam a bit more I'm sort of annoyed by it, not sure if it's stuff in the new console one or just the iPhone version. Other than missing double tap turbo to special move, it seems to be missing the ability to go from dunk to layup, and being able to super dunk without turbo screws up what you can do on offense. Unless you stop completely to shoot, you either do a layup from just inside the 3 point line, or a dunk. In Hangtime and Showtime you could do skyhooks, runners, or fade aways depending on what direction you were moving. Trying to do that here just results in a dunk most of the time.

So SFIV is pretty fun, definitely worth a dollar. I wish it had online VS though, but I would imagine it would be laggy as hell. I find the "joystick" to be a bit unresponsive at times, especially when I'm trying to dash. But I think it's about as good as a touch pad only fighter could be.

I downloaded some free Solitaire game last night and I had some Gamecenter sandbox issue. Thought I lost my Gamecenter ID until I signed out and signed back in this morning. Now all is well.

It was weird, it was like I was on a whole different server. I went on some games and they were displaying a new set of leaderboards.

outta curiosity are there any jailbroken apps that would make it so I can delete music from my ipod library similar to how you can delete podcasts and videos

Is your phone just recently jailbreaked? If the problem persists, you going to need to do a full restore to fix the issue. Problem occurs from Appsync which stems from
Installous

I'd like to know this too. Having to go through iTunes cause I need space to shoot video or install a large game is pretty annoying.

Mirror's Edge was free just a few days (weeks?) ago.

Anyway I'm waiting for more JRPG on iTouch, like Secret of Mana, like Final Fantasy VI or Chrono Trigger...
