Mirror's Edge was definitely free for the iPad a few weeks ago, because I grabbed it and still don't own an iPad. :P

Was it possible for anyone outside the UK to get that? I remember trying, and not getting past the requirement for a credit card with a UK address.

Also in Spain.

BTW, Super Mega Worm is also free right now.

I heard good things about it, just downloaded and gonna try it now.

Mirror's Edge was free just a few days (weeks?) ago.

Anyway I'm waiting for more JRPG on iTouch, like Secret of Mana, like Final Fantasy VI or Chrono Trigger...

Secret of Mana is already out (assuming you already knew that). Yeah, it would be cool to get Chrono Trigger. It'll be out on "mobile" in Japan this Spring so I'm sure it'll make the iOS jump after that at some point.

Ah yes yes about SoM I know. :) About Chrono Trigger I didn't know, I live in Japan but my mobile is crap so... I'll wait an iOS version.

It was free anywhere that was going the 12 Days of Christmas promotion on iTunes, which I think is most (all?) of Europe. I got some good stuff out of that - Mirror's Edge, a couple of movies and TV shows, an eBook...

Grabbed both versions of Super Mega Worm since that's free now. It's quite a limited game but seems like a fun time waster.

I've started Scarlett and the Spark of Life last night and I'm enjoying it. I'm blocked at the beginning though (lol) so if someone can help me, I'm in the (first ?) little village:
I've talked to the guy with the broken leg and I know I should follow the path to the house on the cliff but what should I do there ? I can't enter. : |

IIRC you have to get the paint from the roof. Use something on the rock and then the crowbar on the paint. It's been a few days and I'm not sure though...

Thank you, it worked. : )

I put the nest on the rock and reach the paint with the crowbar

Ok that Battle of Gundabad is the cheating-est game ever. Seriously, I am only on Challenge 2, and the other 3 AI players get their Actions in their hand, every single hand, I only get one every 3rd hand or so. Because of the Action they are playing, I never get a chance to buy anything except the free 1 coin card, which the Action they are playing negates.

Mario, any news on the Zen Puzzle Garden iPhone version?

We are putting together a resource plan and estimates for iPhone and MacOS versions in the next week. The work will probably be scheduled to start some time in the next 6-8 weeks.

retinapad is awesome. Saw a guy post about it over on the Touch Arcade Forums and went to JB my iPad right away. It was so worth it.

NBA Jam on iPad with retinapad VS iPad 2x mode

NBA Jam looks awesome, the original was the only sports game I ever actually fell in love with outside of enjoying virtual golf on the ps1 a few years later.

Will buy at some point, too much to play as it is right now.

Is there a reason Apple doesn't make this happen? iOS 5.0 feature or something? Seems like it would be rather trivial unless this retinapad thing has completely awful compatibility.

Nope. It utilizes the retina assets (if that's the right way of saying it). In other words, instead of pixel doubling the regular iPhone graphics, it uses the higher Res retina graphics in 2x mode. I jailbroke for retinapad and XBMC. Glad I did, so worth it.

Thanks!

I never considered JB my iPad even tho I homebrew-enabled most of the consoles I owned in my life, what are the cons btw?

I really don't understand why Apple does not natively support using retina assets on the iPad. It just makes no sense -- what do they gain? Should we expect it in an upcoming iOS update? Are they just trying to make sure the inevitable retina-based iPad looks that much better compared to the original iPad?

RAM is about the only real reason I can think of...but it has the same amount as the iPod touch. I'm guessing it has less available memory but that's just a guess.

Otherwise it might've been a ploy to make sure devs make iPad native apps rather than just putting out double sized iPhone/iPod apps, kind of like apps on the Galaxy Tab that aren't designed for the larger screen (sharp/native res, but look ridiculous)...pretty pointless for many games though.

agreed. I posted about this in the unlock/JB thread. it's probably one of the best paid cydia apps out there. works flawlessly too.

Hopefully it's this. I want devs to make their apps universal, or at least make an iPad specific version. The last thing we need is for games to not get iPad assets and UI's because the iPhone version looks good enough. Fuck that.

I can't believe how good NBA Jam is! It looks and plays phenomenally!

It took me long enough, but finally beat Plants vs. Zombies.

I had tried the game on my PC, once on my iPod Touch, and once on my iPhone, and couldn't get past the first few levels because of boredom.
I think the game starts very slowly, and also the fact of having to start each level planting sunflowers and spending the first couple of minutes not actually "playing", but kind of preparing the game.
I guess I expected a faster game.

But once I assumed that it was not a fast game, I could really get into it, and I have to say I loved it!

After beating it, is there a point in grinding to get money and buying things off Dave's shop?
10.000 monies seem to take a while to get, don't know if it's worth it.
Thoughts or tips?

The iPhone/iPod version are pretty gimped, so I'd say grinding would be awful. The best way to do it is just make a garden of those money flowers (like every square you can), with a row of large potatoes or two and do it all in a level.

The PC version gives you the zen garden and a bunch of very fun alternate game modes, so when I played through the PC version I was able to buy out the entire shop without repeating levels or using money flowers due to their being like 2-3x as much game content as is in the iPhone version. Zen garden was a fun money maker, I miss that. No reason it couldn't have been in the iPhone version either, I would have paid a little more money for a complete copy of it. Oh well.

I just notice Dead Space for iPad (World, not US) has dropped to $4.99. Bought!
Oh, nice. £1.79 for iPhone or £2.99 for iPad.

I'm not sure which one to get, though. Generally I prefer controlling this kind of game on the iPhone and it'll look better with retina graphics, but the big screen must be nice for precision shots. Hmm...

There are two ways of looking at it:

Apple is trying to get developers to make universal apps for the iPad and having an iPad that plays iPhone/iPod software at near-iPad-resolution would make developers lazy

They are saving it as a bullet point for iOS 5.
