Just thought I'd post a quick update about my battery life issue. I went to the Apple store tonight and they agreed what I'm seeing isn't normal. Unfortunately they were super packed so they scheduled me an appointment tomorrow evening. Hopefully I'll get it resolved. I'm still going to do the restore tonight for the hell of it. One of the dudes at the Apple store said to do that too but he said not to use my old backup settings. Based on what was said in this thread that shouldn't be an issue though.
To be honest, I never use my backup settings. I have all the data stored anyway, so I just sync what I want after the fresh restore.

Is there anyway to keep texts if you do that? That's the only thing I'd rather not lose...

What Gtalk app is everyone else using? I've been on eBuddy for the past week, but I hate that it has to load everytime i read a message.

Is there any gtalk app that is optimized for iOS4 right now?
Beejive :D

Usage: 2hrs 37 minutes
Standby: 15 hrs 5 minutes

Battery is at 65%

your texts will be history.

jailbroken phones can actually get into the phone's file system and save the text database files, but...no iPhone 4 jailbreak yet.

Hmm you sure about that? Mine is at 23 hours (5 hours usage) and I have 68%

What is your 5 hours of usage comprised of though? I got 7 h of usage out of my first charge, but that ran the gamut of web browsing, Facebook, Twitter, texts, phone calls, playing games (iBlast Moki :D), writing a few e-mails, and iPod. Curious to see how you're at 5 hours and still have 68%.

edit: my 2nd charge seems to be running down a lot faster tho: 1 h 34 m usage, 5 h 31 m standby and my battery shows 78%.

5 hours 56 min usage, and 14 hours, 24 min standby and hanging in at 30%. A mixture of 3 hours of podcast usage, some browsing of GAF, updating Beejive, checking e-mail, and I think about a 15 min phone call on bluetooth. WiFi is on all the time, bluetooth was only turned on during the call, and push notifications on Beejive, but not many came through since they were being directed to my desktop.

I wouldn't think my battery life is bad, but some of you guys are reporting way better than what I'm getting.

AT&T opens up at 7AM with their phones tomorrow. I'm going to try to line up around 5:30 or 6AM. Hopefully all the lineup people are done.

Think I might do the same. I can't decide if I should go for the 16 or 32gb model. I really want the phone but don't know what all I'd put on it to fill 16gb.

If you plan to use the video capture, get the 32 in my opinion. Better to pay the $100 now rather than be stuck with a phone wishing you had more space for the next two years.

Its $10 :o

Does this app go on sale? I'd buy it for $5 :D

It used to be $15, so $10 might be the sale =)

I too was hesitant and was actually pretty pissed about the app when I bought it. Everyone recommended it to me and it was really crappy when Push first came out, but it's been smoothed out now and works great. Just take the dive and don't look back. Plus its skinnable =)

Beejive is the best IM client out personally. It supports such an array of chat services too and push which is great and now it has iOS4 background capabilities.

Anyways..

I was just watching some CNET Hands-On stuff on the EVO 4G.. and I'm confused. They said their 3G tests on the phone (EVDO Rev-A) was getting them about 400-800kbp/s while 4G kicked them to about 3mb/s - 6mb/s though she said specifically she was getting 3.5mb/s in Philadelphia. Thats pretty good

But when I run SpeedTest on my iPhone I get

I assume HSPA+ being in Dallas already helps but are 4G speeds going to be massively improved over the next year..? Then again.. maybe LTE will and WiiMax is just starting out and will get better eventually?

EDIT: Ran it again tonight (The one above is from this weekend)

Wow.....

Anyone know the best way to get a pic from your phone on to a picture hosting site like tinypic so that you can post it immediately to forums? Normally on my laptop I would just upload it to tinypic but that doesn't seem to be an option.

Not sure about tinypic, but the photobucket app works great for me.

Be warned though:

Words with Friends is serious business

I'm still waiting on a fix for the iPad WiFi problem--a problem of which the cause has been identified, is entirely software related, and Apple has already promised a fix--so I'm a little bitter :/

Thanks!!!

Sorry to bold again, but can one of you fine gentlemen upload the pandora.ipa for me? I can't get it in the UK which frankly sucks balls. If you CMD + I or right click Get Info inside of iTunes you can see where the file is.

This will be a great help for me :)

Check your PM.

So I had changed my mind and decided to leave for the AT&T store at 5am. Just got here and the crowd's prepared a list and I happen to be #31. Now it's just a waiting game. :)

Has anyone here bought one on Tesco Mobile (UK) if so, how do you feel about the service, i know its with O2, but i just want to check if there are any problems

Isn't photobucket frowned on GAF cuz it runs out of bandwidth quickly?
Hmm, I wasn't aware of any trouble. I checked on the image host Thread in the FAQ forum and according to sprsk:

We recommend Photobucket.com and Tinypic for hosting files to post on this forum, but if for some reason you can't stand them, there is a whole slew of places.

Not sure how up to date that is though, so it may have changed.

The cheapest it's been is $5.99 for a few days (temporary sale). Beejive is definitely worth the asking price of $10 though, it supports pretty much all of the instant messaging services and has tons of features and customization options. And they're pretty quick with the updates (one of the first Push apps in OS3.0 and now they're updated for OS4.0 already w/ multi-tasking and retina display support etc).

Other apps come and go but Beejive will never leave your device. Its as essential as Safari. I think I got it when it was on sale, but to be honest, when you're still using it in two years you won't regret the price.

Not to mention they always implement new iOS features as fast as possible, and always give updates for free.

Ordered an iPhone 4 from Apple UK, estimated delivery 21st of June... Oh well.

Photobucket does run out pretty quickly unless you get a premium account.

If you aren't going premium, I'd find another hosting site.

Maybe try http://tinygrab.com/iphone ? I use tinygrab on my Mac and PC (no iphone), and so far it seems to work A-OK. The iphone version costs money, though, and I'm not sure how IOS4-ready it is. :( Maybe other people use it and can chime in.

Good to know, thanks.

Just checked out reviews on the tiny grab app, seems solid although not ios4 updated yet. I don't upload from my idevices enough to warrant a purchase, but if I did I'd probably grab tinygrab.

Is it strange that both my Usage and Standby say 20hr 58min? (53% battery)

I don't recall using it non-stop the past 20 hours... Time to restart?

Not exactly iPhone4 related, but I sold my wife's old 3G to a friend and he jail broke it with iOS4. Unfortunately, it runs much slower as a result and he wants to go back to 3.1.3.

Can this be done?

Just picked mine up from AT&T this morning, there was more than enough for everyone.

Anyway, just set it up and played around a bit and the main thing I have to say is that HOLY SHIT the screen is INSANE. It's so crisp and vivid... and it really does almost look like the screen is on glossy paper.

The camera is great too.

Can anyone recommend some games that updated the resolution to take advantage of the "retina" display? I already have flight control and eliminate: shooting range.

Question is it better to buy the Iphone 4 outright from an apple store and then choose your provider (UK) but obviously not have the option to upgrade when the newer phone eventually comes along. Or simply go on contract for 24 months and have all those upgrade perks?

Also for those in the UK what is the best service provider? i dont like the idea of being limited to 500mb a month by O2 for example, i mean people in the US complain about their 2gb restriction on AT&T but 500mb = 60 youtube videos....that really does seem low!

Hrmmm..that first bill from AT&T is always a shocker.

prorated from last month + july + 36 and 26 dollar activation fees (got 2 phones)

To anyone getting their phones through the AT&T store today, did you see any Apple Bumpers in stock ?

Until yesterday they only have some ugly neon color hard plastic cases.

Got to the Chicago AT&T store on State st. at 5am and I was the second person in line. Eventually the line balooned to 50.

I had an iPhone 3G before, switched to blackberry, but then switched back. It's so nice to be home.

I'm restoring my iPhone 4 from the backup now. It still hadn't activated yet though. The guy at the store told me it would take 20 - 30 minutes but nothing had happened...

Oh wait, it just activated. :)

Rolled up to the AT&T store at 9:30am. Back in the office with a brand new iPhone 3 min of 10 after a stop at Panera to grab some coffee. I love working near the AT&T store in the middle of no where (commute sucks though). There was a guy who got in line at 10pm last night according to the clerk.

Folders are causing me problems.

I'm purchasing/downloading games I don't necessarily want to play so I can make folders that my existing games fit into. :lol Been finding some really nice games I previously overlooked...but I'm burning through these gift cards I got recently.

iTunes money is the best gift ever for me these days. It used to be Best Buy gift certs, but now I'm consuming software through app stores (steam/app store) instead of buying new gadgets.

Yes. He may need to put it in DFU mode, but he can restore to 3.1.3. He may need to remove then install to an older version of iTunes. But it'll work.

I did the same thing for the same reason.

I got in line 45 minutes before the store opened this morning. Will get one.

Where are you at, anyways?

Are you buying an iPhone 4 or an EVO or what? I keep seeing you in both threads and can't figure out where your "allegiance" lies... :lol

If I had just waited a minute...
