They quoted me 5 to 10 business days, but they shipped this morning with overnight shipping. Can't wait :)

...I have no words. The fucking email they sent me said first come first serve. So how the fucking hell are we in the same"queue" yet you are getting your phone immediately?

Did you order from Apple or AT&T?
Apple.

Actually, I meant to mention that I installed iOS4 on my phone a few days back and I really haven't had any additional slowdown. Some aspects of the UI actually move faster.

Called apple today twice about the same issue, because of the fact that I DROPPED A CALL WHILE ON THE PHONE WITH ANOTHER REP because of the antenna issue.

The second rep said without flinching "We heard that bumpers worked well for a lot of customers so I RECOMMEND PURCHASING ONE." So lame that it doesn't work OoB for a left-handed phone call, unless I hold it in a way that puts it at risk of me dropping it.

Then I asked if a fix was coming and he said "Most definitely." No idea on time of the fix quite yet.

Also, my cheek hit the speaker-phone button while on the call. Nice proximity sensor there, apple.

/rage.

We've been hearing "Most definitely" for a week now.. Also no fix is planned, PR statement due to hit by last Friday, iOS update last Monday, etc. etc.

Have you tried being right handed?

...

......

:D

It would have been great if he had said that.

Anyone else with 2 or more iPhones in a household having problems syncing apps? My wife is getting all of mine as well as hers (and its asking for my apple ID for the app updates on her phone)

That's how it works. Apps bought by your account need your password, and vice versa. Me and my brother share apps via Home Sharing, and we exchanged passwords so we can update the apps.

hm.. If I get a single e-mail for some reason it always lists it as 2. And if I delete it, it keeps showing in the inbox until the next time it checks my gmail.

I dunno if there's a way to ask about this without starting anything lol(seems to be the source of all flame on all the other forums macrumors namely)

uhmmm what's your guys take on the antenna thing?

I have an iPhone 4 I think its pretty awesome

sometimes I get the death grip

so it's confirmed though that they are working on at least attempting to address it?

can't even get questions answered on the other forums because of all the pissiness

but yeah this thread seems calm I'm shocked lol(again gist being used to following this shit so much and listening to all the h8)

how many people are having the proximity sensor problem? As a right handed person this seems to be my main concern, even though i think i would cover the antenna even with my right hand.

they are definitely working on it, hence the hiring of antenna engineers :lol

Google is having some mobile mail server issues and has been working to solve them in the past few days because of the iPhone launch

So I've heard. I was having similar issues so I deleted my account on the phone and re synced it with my gmail acct

I've had my iPhone 4 for a solid week now, and I gotta say that I'm a little in love.
Now I realize that I'm still very much in that new tech hardware honeymoon phase, particularly since this is my first iPhone. Hell, my first smartphone.

I've already acquired close to 80 apps, and I'm still amazed on a daily basis by the new features I keep on discovering. Shit, I can use it to pull up my digital cable listings faster than I can through my TV at home! And with the channels customized by order of preference!

I use my personal wifi when I'm home, and when I discovered how slow and how much of a battery drain the 3G was, bought a second wifi router and snuck it into the office. So now my iPhone's much faster and has its battery last about twice as long. Great stuff.

Migrating my old phone contacts was a huge, 3-hour pain in the ass. But instead of shifting them from SIM to SIM, I manually ported them over to my GMail contacts, and now have my iPhone interfacing with the GMail, GCal, and GReader. Not to mention my Yahoo mail and Hotmail accounts as well. It's all so seamless!

I'm pretty sure most people (if you have been reading the thread, which it seems like you haven't) feel like it is an evil that can be lived with. The phone is awesome and while this is an issue, its worth it to have it.

Also, the death grip issue with the antenna should be felt by all, no matter your handedness - if you are on the computer and having a phone conversation, chances are you'll be holding the phone with your left hand, your mouse in the right.

that's exactly how I lost my call.

Ooh, good idea! What app?

I don't really use my iTouch too hardcore for apps (partially b/c it's an iTouch, though I can get wireless connection most places including work) but the ones I do use I really love, like Carcassonne, Words with Friends, Instapaper, Kindle (still read paper as primary, but I've totally been converted such that I have no problems reading books on the iTouch either), Wolfram, etc.

I.TV. It's free (though with ads) but allows you to populate your location and select a television service provider/package according to your region. The same app also supports searching for (and depending on vendor, purchasing) movie theater tickets, and managing your Netflix queues! It's pretty amazing.

Hell, I just love being able to put my favorite TV channels at the top of my listings!

I've been playing Words with Friends with one particular friend since we both got our iPhone 4s last week. Basically non-stop, whenever we get a minute or two to look at our phones when working or at home. We both downloaded Carcassonne, but we've yet to learn the game or play.

JOIN US when you learn Carc. Takes about 10m I think, and it has a great tutorial and really clear rules. Have like six GAF games going right now, and I think half the people are new to the game. Myself I had only played like once before.

on the camera thing, i used a nice lumix compact for years and recently bought a might-as-well-be-a-DSLR sony NEX - from where i'm sat, the iphone 4 basically removes the need for point and shoot cameras. it's absolutely good enough for 99% of situations where people who aren't particularly into photography would want to take snapshots, and i'm not seeing the advantage most compacts would give you considering you'd be paying around the price of the phone and carrying another device around.

i'm not saying the iphone camera is amazing, i'm saying most people don't take photos with quality in mind these days - and, if you do have quality in mind, you really should be buying something with a sensor bigger than your thumbnail.

so does anyone have an opinion on this, or what?
Hey Grifter :)

I have an iPhone 4 and I can't get this issue to reproduce in high signal areas like my home. My work is still fairly high signal but I can get it to reproduce only if I hold it firmly with my palm over the bottom left corner. At work it only drops to 2 bars and doesnt drop calls still.

I think it seems more extreme in certain situations then others. It honestly hasn't affected me.

There are times when I do take it out of my pocket and I have 1 or 0 bars.. then it instantly jumps to full bars in 3 secs. (like when I'm dialing).

why should apple feel the need to address any issues when people are well aware of them but still eating up the phones like crack.

just sayin'

I've been reading up on this antenna issue. Is it just me or is it massively overblown?
I haven't been able to reproduce it AT ALL. Granted, I'm now sporting one of those ZAGG invisiShield things, but I only installed that yesterday. I guess I'm just not holding the phone right? Or, in this case, wrong. Shit, I live in a basement, and my old AT&T phone had NO reception there. Now I manage 1-2 bars at times.

Is it a laid-back, non-time-sensitive experience like Words with Friends?
I started up Carcassonne a little while ago, but when I realized that there was a dedicated tutorial, I switched it off. Not the kind of thing I can do while in the office.
Though I'm hoping that once I do get into it, it'll be just as low-pressure and comfortable to play during the work day as Words with Friends is.

On a 3GS, but it's an OS4 question. How do you close apps so they stop running in the background? I had my TomTom app running, but when I hit the home button to quit out of it, it continues to spout off directions and it's killing my battery.

Wellington said:
I disagree, I just don't even bother to take out my 3G in sunlight. What were your brightness levels?

How long did it take for you guys to go from Prepared to Ship the phone to actually shipped. Hopefully it ships today, I want to fry my retinas.
:(

Anyone? :(

Precisely. Some games take a couple days, some take a week or more. Just take your turn at your leisure basically, and it has push notifications just like WwF.

^^
Sounds awesome. I'll hit up the tutorial and perhaps a round or two of Solitaire later tonight.

Double-click on the Home button to bring up your quick list.
Touch any icon and hold it down (exactly as if you were trying to enable the icon drag & drop feature of the main interface), and all of the icons on your quick list will get a little red and white dash (delete) badge next to it. Tap the delete badges on the corresponding app icons to shut them down (and remove them from your quick list).

Wow, nice.

Almost picked it up yesterday, but will almost certainly get it when I get home.

edit: nm not gonna ask about you-know-what

anyone else noticed better battery life on their 3gs after upgrading to os4?

i really felt like there was a difference, im probably wrong though

I need to go get a bumper case. Not having reception problems, having hlding the phone problems. I am so used to my 3G that my hand is just not used to the non-rounded corners.

Because its honestly being overblown on the other sites as they usually focus on the talk of the iPhone or other smartphones only.

Its still an issue that needs to be corrected though.

Carc is the best by far imo b/c of the online play (though the AI is surprisingly fun to play for a while too) and it's also just stylishly put together production-wise. There are also solid apps for Roll through the Ages, Catan, and Hive. All good imo but they are all vs. CPU only.

I'm noticing better battery performance on my 3g for sure. For me, iOS4 sure wasn't the full-blown AIDS on 3g some people were making it out to be.

Is there an app like Scrabulous? Guess it'd have to be real Scrabble, but server hosted and turn-based. One of my favorite productivity killers.

Hey Turtle!

I was kind of playing along, but your account is helpful to me, since I'm on "the list" at my Apple store and 3 The Shacks but have considered waiting on my upgrade.

FWIW, the only friend of mine who camped out for one can't reproduce it and he's in NYC, where AT&T service is maximally flaky.

I think it usually happens on the same day. I got mind in the AM and it shipped later on in the day. But Apple is probably flying by the seat of their pants trying to meet demand so who knows if that is true for everyone.

Thanks. I'd probably only want to play with friends so the others do me no good.

what are people complaining about on the 3g? just the performance?

overall how are people liking OS4? i think its pretty sweet

im bummed at the ipod crashes though( dunno if anyone else got this)

podcasts wouldnt show up on phone even though i transferred them

tried to download the podcasts, everytime id open up my ipod after that, it would crash

eventually i got it to work, but had to take all podcasts off then re-download them(which is a bummer cuz all the episodes of doug loves movies arent online anymore and i like to go back to old ones)

anyone use the spell check?

i was actually wondering how to enable this...i type with all assists off, so figured it might be a less intrusive way of using some form of autocorrect. i can't find the menu option though - maybe because my phone's region format is japan?

Mine should be arriving sometime next week. Thinking of going without a case but I'm not sure.

Has anybody managed to scratch it yet just in a pocket without a case? Do the sides scratch easier than the front/back?

Cheers.

The spell check/predictive text is waaaay worse on iOS in comparison :(

Does anyone know how to manually add words to the dictionary without going into the settings menu it's self? I like adding words on the fly when I am typing messages. That's one thing I miss from my Android :(

yeah sry dunno how that works with other languages/region settings

hope its available on all

but red underlined words can be tapped on or touched to bring up options for replacing the word

and there's a user dictionary under general somewhere i think? keyboard maybe?

you can add words n stuff i guess
