The iPhone 4 |OT|

Downloaded this app called "Brain Trainer" a while ago and really like it. However, it's limited in the amount of games you can play and also doesn't let you choose the particular game you want to play (it chooses one for you randomly). So I decided to see how much an upgrade to the "Pro" version costs, figuring it would be $10-15, and it turns out that it's $50. Is that ludicrous or is it just me? Is this in line with other full pay apps out there? I'm new to the iPhone and to apps in general, so I don't know.

Fuck I was about to cave in and buy the iPhone 4 because it seemed like the 5 wasn't coming out this year and/or wouldn't be a big upgrade. Now we get this rumor.
It's been said since before the iPad 2 launch that the iPhone 5 will have an A5 and will likely be launching later (almost unanimously agreed to be September). Those rumours and predictions seems right on. where did you get 'not this year' from? Even Apple can't afford to fall that far behind the technology curve.

That's really not in line with usual app store prices. I don't know about "Brain Trainer," but usually things are only costly if it serves a professional niche--apps that help farmers farm or doctors do their thing.

Apple will unveil its next model iPhone in September with a faster chip and a more advanced camera, Bloomberg said today, citing information from "people familiar with the plans."

Adding fuel to the latest fires about the next-generation iPhone, Bloomberg said the new phone will come equipped with an A5 processor, which Apple already added to the iPad 2 earlier in the year. Other reports have also pointed to the speedy, dual-core A5 as the chip that would power the new iPhone.

The next iPhone would also include an 8-megapixel camera, according to Bloomberg, a healthy leap from the 5-megapixel version used in the current iPhone 4.

[...]

The new iPhone would "closely resemble" the iPhone 4, said the sources, commenting on a topic that's been a mystery to Apple watchers.

Some reports say the new iPhone would be more of an "iPhone 4S" or an "iPhone 4 plus," a model with some improvements but no major changes from the current edition. But other reports say the next iPhone will be the iPhone 5 and sport some huge enhancements over the iPhone 4.

In addition to the traditional iPhone, Apple is reportedly working on a cheaper model geared toward developing countries, according to the sources.

What's the "three" mobile service?

Dammit I wish they'd announce the unveiling date already, Im anxious and need something to look forward to! Damn.
just assume the first week of september. i don't think anyone will know the date until a couple weeks before anyways.

I just went naked today, will probably break it at work tomorrow when serving customers.. or I should probably put on the PixelSkin HD cover again. =/

It just feels and looks majestic without it.

You're a braver man than I.

iPhone 4S will be a slight revision on iPhone 4. iPhone 5 will be 2012, LTE, and might sport that radical new iPod Touch-like design.

Apple likes to get 2 years out of a design if they can.

Good for you, it'll be fine. Naked for awhile now, it's a no brainer, IMO.

They went only 1 year with the original iPhone, and 1 year with the original iPad. iPod Touch also only had the same design for 2 and 3, 1 and 4 were different. You could say that the 2nd and 3rd generation sharing the same form are outliers.

Or not. The first model is always the test case and they work out the kinks for their real design starting at revision 2.

So after losing my 32gb ipod touch last week I decided "fuck it, I'll just get an iphone" and plan on picking up the 32gb model. From what I gather Verzion is launching new data plans next month of $15 a month for 200mb and $25 for 2gb. Is the 200mb not worth it? I don't really have a good sense of how fast one burns through megabytes.

If you leave wifi on and end up using mostly wifi, don't use apps that connect to data a lot, and don't stream anything, 200MB is fine. 2GB is much safer though, given the ridiculous overage fees for data.

If you watch streaming video and browse even casually 200 MB might not be enough.
It really depends on how much access you have to WiFi

Well, I'm paying $25 for 500MB up here in Canada, and there's a 1GB option for $30. My average has been 350-450MB/month, less than I thought I'd use.

If you're going for the 200mb plan I would absolutely recommend this app:
http://www.onavo.com/

It has cut my data usage by up for 50%, by compressing images, etc. Definitely worth it on a tight plan. You just install and it does the rest.

That's not at all what they're doing. That's what AT&T does and what Verizon should do. But no, you'll pay $30 a minimum for 2GB of data and you'll like it.

Really? I read an article on reddit about the new plans yesterday. I think I'll opt for the 2gb regardless though.

If you're willing to go with data caps instead of unlimited, you might as well wait for the new iPhone, expected to be released in September.

Yeah, unfortunately, for smartphones Verizon's lowest data plan under the new plans is the $30/2GB one.

Haha, same here! I almost forgot how amazing the design and feel of the phone are. So awesome.

Just got an iPhone a few days ago and haven't been able to get Gmail to push to Mail.app on it. In trying to figure out what's going on, I came across a weird difference between my iPad and iPhone. On my iPad, after adding a Gmail account, I have the following options under Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data > Advanced > Gmail Account:

While my iPhone only gives the following options:

Both are running 4.3.3 (8J2). Any ideas?

excuse my noob question since im still new to the iphone4 stuff, is it possible for the iphone4 to act as a wireless hotspot for stuff like my laptop to browse the internet through?

Yes. Although it's an extra charge.

Yes. In the US, AT&T and Verizon charge extra for the service. It is usually free in other countries.

I really, really hope the latest set of iPhone rumors are true because that would likely mean a September release for iOS 5.

The hardware means nothing to me this year. :lol

I just want a notification LED on the front like the blackberries. What do I have to do to get it? Ugh
I really think a pulsing white light on the front of an iPhone would fit Apple's aesthetic perfectly.

it's one of the few pluses (other than replaceable battery, physical keyboard, and a couple other things) that blackberry still has over apple. if apple made imessage, they should totally make an led. id love it if they did.

Go on... I like the idea of the pulsing light right next to the front camera. Could also serve as an indicator that the camera is on (if needed, like how the Macbook has the green light).

I have no data, but I like my phone to be off when I want it to be off. Light for notifications is just really annoying. I remember having it on my Nokia 5800XM and it was terrible. To me it screamed waste of battery life and it did nothing for me. Half the time we're checking the phone, I don't really see the point to it.

I would actually like a light, but I also hope it would be possible to turn it off for people who don't want it or for times I would rather my phone not light up.

It's more of a waste of battery to power the entire screen for text messages (and repeat notifications) or when we keep turning on the screen to check for new stuff...

I really want NFC now, as all the carriers in Denmark today announced a joint agreement to give the whole nation digital creditcards and everything you can think of. But the iPhone with NFC probably won't be before next year, which is okay with me, as I'll be buying the iPhone 6.

Anyone wish you could get an iPhone 4 without a dataplan? So just text and talk and use the wifi features of it. Would sell like crazy I would imagine. Don't know how this is not an option yet.

?? an led uses so much less battery power than the screen being lit up to check if there is a message. i guarantee having an led for message notifications would do nothing to battery life. it's extremely handy to leave your phone on the table and be able to see if you have a message without going to pick it up.

well, it is an option if you spend 700 bucks buying the phone unlocked. :P

hmm... not much of an option, obviously.
