The iPhone 4 |OT|

I plan on keeping my iPhone 4 for one more year (until iPhone 6), but my Home-button is totally unresponsive - many times it won't respond to my presses and it's really getting to me.

Can it be fixed by oneself, if I remove everything inside by iFixit's guide? Could I eventually buy a new Home-button and it'll be fixed?

I'm looking to buy a real (OEM) glass back and front for my iPhone 4 as well (would like it to be another color than black), so that I can go naked, without worrying to buy a new one, as I'll just be able to swap the glass for the original old. Where can I buy one with the real cutout for the flash so I won't get flash artifacts etc.?

Ok, so my last iPhone got stolen a few months ago.

And now I'm going to get another one, for a fantastic price of £162 brand spanking new. God bless Tesco coupons, and the double up offer they got going on. Got £135 worth of vouchers, gonna double them up to £270, plus 10% staff discount, means I am a happy man. Probably going to keep the 4 for a while, see what comes out with regards to the 5 or whatever, and sell the 4 if I fancy something new.

I am very happy again.

Just got off the phone with an ATT representative, told me to wait off for the iphone 5 which will be announced soon and that the iphone 4 price would be lowered.

I guess this is already known though.
Wait 'til when though?

I'm in an usual dilemma where when I go home this week and stay for two weeks that is my only window to upgrade to an iphone. Will I at least be able to get a cheaper iphone 4 during this time or even the iphone 5?

Android will piggyback on the press attention surrounding the iPhone. The media love a narrative with two competing sides and the coverage of the conflict practically scripts itself. Based on the rumors we've heard so far it's likely that the Android handsets will be clearly ahead of the iPhone in one important metric (the Android's retina SAMOLED 4.5" screens versus the iPhone's retina LCD 3.5"/3.8"/4.0" screen). The Android phones might come off looking better for once.

Get real, Charred. If anything, this will work the other way around, with whatever Ice Cream sundaes they release being completely overshadowed by Apple in the press.

Ugh, me too. I want increased megapixel count and whatever else would make the color balance better. Don't want no 3D thing in the way of that.

i think it would be cool if the iphone was aluminum like the air, with an aluminum bezel. it would look pretty sleek imo.

i also want 4g, 8mp cam, notification led, and 128gb.

and i also realize that almost everything in this post is hopeless for the iphone 5. actually, the camera is the only thing ha.

The original iPhone was so much higher quality it's just silly.

It was heavier and felt premium. My 2007 model still has no scratches on the screen despite a few drops while my 3 was scratched to he'll after a year and my 4 got cracks on re front and back after just one fall and had to be repaired!

Didn't the original iPhone have an aluminum back? Either way I don't want them going back to that look.
yeah i suppose the back of it was. i'd like the whole thing to be like it though. i kind of dislike the black/white bezel look.

maybe something like this:

unibody style

That could be cool, but I thought they made the switch to glass to get better reception. Also, I love the feel of the glass back.
oh, well that sucks ha. i wouldn't know. i'd be mega hyped over an aluminum uni-body look though.

i'll be getting the iphone 5 regardless.

Yeah, they could make the next one out of cardboard and I'd probably still buy it.

You first questioned if Apple ever had an aluminum iPhone (it seems you had no clue) and then questioned if it was partial. I answered your question.

i get that, but i already knew it had an aluminum back. i posted that before you replied to me with the iphone pic but perhaps you didn't see it. BUT the answer is still no that there has not been an aluminum iphone. i'm referring to the entire phone, not just the back.

Using that logic there has never been a glass iPhone either since the iPhone 4 is not fully glass. There has never been a plastic iPhone since the iPhone 3G/3GS was not fully plastic. The front of the iPhone is always going to be glass with some kind of bezel. It's the material used on the back that defines each generation of iPhone = aluminum, plastic, glass. Uni-body design is another thing.

i'm sorry, but i don't understand why you are saying that. what exactly are you getting at? i said i wanted a unibody-styled aluminum design, which would include an aluminum bezel. i never said there has been a fully glass iphone.

It looks great, but the iPhone4 is uncomfortable to hold with its edges. I'm sure many will disagree but it was the worst offending phone i've had in that department.

Starbucks is now giving out a different paid app per week if you go to their stores. Anyone find them yet? I've had mixed experiences just finding those "free song per week" cards.

One of my apps has an update description of:

"Removal of Register and Forgot Password link to comply with new app guidelines."

What guidelines are these? I know you can't have links with regard to sites that sell things, but really, no links at all? The app in question was DirecTV.

What's the difference between Classic and the other version?
Very different UIs. I prefer the other version but a lot of people didn't so they offered it back for those guys.

http://inseam.mysterioustrousers.com/post/8043849909/moving-forward

Since releasing the first version, we have had an almost constant stream of emails from people asking “How do I create an event on a non-hour time?” The old method of tap on the time, then choose the minute interval (which creates a new slot) and then type was broken from the start. Many new users simply didn’t know how to do it.

Another thing that we have constantly heard from customers is that people wanted to keep the day view in list-only mode almost all the time but that in that mode, there was no way to add an event without switching back to full-day and tapping a time.

Consider that for a second… In Calvetica 3.7, to create a new event while in list-only (agenda) view, you’d have to tap to go to full-day view, scroll to the time you wanted and tap to add the event. That sucks.

Does anyone else not check their e-mail on their iPhone or is it just me?

I initially set up my two bellsouth accounts to work on my iPhone but it began to be annoying when I realized that e-mails I read and deleted on my iPhone would still show up on my desktop's mail application.

I just check 'em at home these days.

Bellsouth doesn't offer an IMAP server?

I couldn't live without checking emails on the iPhone.

IMAP/Exchange accounts are much more convenient on phones.

Picking up my new iPhone 4 tomorrow, of which I paid the lovely price of £152!

Can't wait, especially as it seems everyone around me has gotten one since I've had mine stolen! Even my brother taunts me so.

Got a case all ready to slip it straight into, then just gotta sort out the SIM card and I'll be set.

(then jailbreak of course.)

:)

I don't believe they do.

Do they allow automatic forwarding of e-mails? I've had my main e-mail for the last 18 years now and what I do is have it automatically forward to my gmail account and then I setup my iPhone for gmail.

Settings > Wallpaper, select your picture, Set > Set Home Screen. It's in the beta as well.
Doesnt give me the option of setting it as my Home Screen .. it sets it only for the lock screen.

Is there a way to find out if your phone is locked/unlocked?

I put in a request for my phone to be unlocked by my provider, but before I got the chance I had to return my phone to Apple and they gave me a new one - that should be unlocked, right?

Really want to move away from my current provider, but don't want to switch if my phone won't work ;_;

When I was messing around with unlocking on an AT&T iPhone I believe the menu option for "Carrier" shows up. That shouldn't be there if it's locked, at least it wasn't for AT&T ones.

It's somewhere in the settings that has to do with network, don't have an iPhone anymore so I can't check. I assume it's the same place you turn 3G and such on/off.

Ah, that's great! thank you, just found that I do indeed have that option :-)

Grabbing Calvetica now too, looks a great alternative to the Calendar app (also makes me wish Apple would let you use BiteSMS through the app store, my phone was a complete waste of time for text messaging between jailbreaks!)
