Assuming nothing changes, you'll be able to preorder it from Apple or any of the providers who carry it.
 
We have exclusively received meatier images of iPhone 5 back cover in White, along with Volume flex cable, frontal camera, rear camera Lens, Vibrator and battery from a Chinese part supplier. The codename ‘N94′ marked on cover clearly indicates that it is a fifth-generation iPhone part. The front cover, however, is labeled “EVT2″ (Engineering Verification Testing) with date ’07-June-2011′, marking it as early development prototype.

Who says there's just one phone update this year?

It's fairly easy to imagine this iPhone 4 or tweaked 4s version being sold alongside a newer iPhone 5 model that matches the leaked Chinese cases with curved sides and a larger screen.

Those case leaks have been reliable for years for iPods, iPhones and recently iPad 2. I'm expecting a new design in addition to a variation of the iPhone 4

You'd probably get the most value from it now, but unlocked iPhones tend to keep their value for a long time, even when new versions come out.

Oh yeah, forgot the 2 new phones rumour. Just as both of these must be in production we haven't seen anything from the other one. Which is strange, but then case sizes must have come from something.

Guess just keeping expectations in check, if it wasn't for the later than expected release none of us would be expecting anything other than a 4S. It's still top of the tree form-factor wise.
 
What are the ethical implications behind selling my iPhone 4 now, getting a no contract phone in the interim and returning that within the 30 day return window as I wait for the iPhone 5?

My contracts been ready to renew for a year now and Im just about ready to get the GSII for Sprint in two weeks...but now I kinda want the iPhone 5. I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO!?!? FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Going through an Apple-less chain of events.
 
I broke the screen of my Iphone 3GS while biking. It has a warranty, but I guess they don't cover this sort of thing. I went to the Apple Store and they told me I could pay $100 to repair it or $200 to upgrade to iPhone 4. The phone is still fully functional, albeit somewhat a pain in the ass to read with the cracked screen.

Should I wait for the iPhone 5? Are there alternatives to fixing my screen that cost less than $100?
 
to be honest, $100 to fix the screen for a month or two before upgrading to the 5 isn't a bad deal. with regard to the 5, i think it's safe to assume it'll be roughly the same as the 4, but with the A5 dual core chip and some other unknown bonuses.

still don't know a single thing really. They are likely releasing a revamped iphone 4 to sell for cheaper so no one really knows if that's what they're seeing. It's all too impossible to speculate until something concrete and obvious leaks or until the event itself.

I didn't realize it'd be a month or two. Nice. Yeah, the $100 isn't so bad, but I figured it was just a minor thing, considering the touch functionality is completely unaffected. Ah well.
 
My screen shattered again... even though I have a case... no fucking clue what happened, actually.
When your iPhone 4 screen shatters do you guys give a damn? It's hideous. I'm at a loss.

Edit: Fuck me. Everyone has this problem.
 
Quick question, is it not possible to download an mp3 from an email that has been sent to me to my iPhone? I can play it from my email but I can't download it to my phone? Is there any way of doing this?

A 3rd party email client, browser and/or music player. Try iCab for a third party browser or Golden Ears for a third party music player. Note that none of these workarounds will allow you to add the mp3 to the iPod app. The only** ways to add music to the iPod app are by buying from iTunes on the device, syncing from iTunes on a computer or the downloading from iCloud in iOS5.

So i gifted an app [Cyanide and Happiness] to a friend at his email he gave me when it asked, but he said he can't find it. What needs to be done?

Can I tell them some sob story that will make them replace it?

Also, I "jailbroke" and unlocked her phone for a trip to Europe a year ago, but I haven't been keeping up with it or the iOS hacking scene since then. I'm about to go by her work and then take it to the Apple Store: can I quickly un-jailbreak it on the way, or do I need to sit down at a computer and take some time to do it?

from the experience of my friends and some people on here, it seems like "everyone gets one".

but it's not official policy.

so try your luck if you have the time to spare.
 
Will competing wireless carriers do anything to help you out of your current contract?

If I want out of my AT&T contract (15 months into it), will Verizon do anything to help me out with cancellation fees if I switch to them?

You'll need to get back to official software with a computer, probably going to need to download the latest .ipsw file and flash through iTunes.

People have gotten their screens replaced for free, but I don't think it can be considered standard practice. I'd say there is a fair chance that they'll do it though if it's an iPhone 4.
 
I'm traveling to Europe for the first time...are there any must have travel related iphone apps? thanks.

EDIT: Oh, and for organizing (checklists etc.).

agreed. ignorethecode actually gets into the nitty gritty of UI design sometimes and is worth reading.

(I would also say that marco's blog has had numerous interesting posts about the thought process of an iOS developer and how he handles product development and support)
