...I agree they should provide an option, though, but I'm terrified of them PATCHING THIS OUT of the game and forcing 4K mode. Would ruin it for me. It's not a good 4K mode either and doesn't look dramatically cleaner.
How do game development?
the engine is old and archaic its been in the works since ~2006 and porting it to ps4 was likely a very difficult process.
I Imagine the performance is down to legacy engine issues that arent easily fixable
25fps is horrible these days? Guess what, it's fine for me. It's fine for most of the people.
If the game drops below 10fps, that is a shit show and unplayable, like some of the bosses in SotC. Anything above 15 is playable.
Oh, I agree with that but the only reason 4K owners have a preference is due to working around the issue via the system menu. The problem is, the option is there for those Pro owners who have a 4K TV, but not for those who have 1080p. Both paid the same for their system, but one of them has more options on how to play their games. The users shouls be able to decide which mode they prefer for themselves.
Forgive me, oh wise one, for I have sinned.
Ah ha ha, I remember this. I went to the event.

Which is funny, because had they rebooted the whole thing and started from scratch in 2012 or 2013 on PS4 then it might have been released/completed just the same, but maybe less of a mess.
I'll buy the game because I find it very touching from what I've seen so far (story wise and the whole setup). But I do find it mind-boggling as to how big of a mess this is or have been for the past 10 years.
Ueda didn't have much luck either, game was originally meant for the PS3 which was a wreck to develop for in the beginning, then it was too late and PS4 came out, 3 years later another hardware gets released.
Caught in development hell or something along those lines.

I feel like downscaling should be a system level option, actually.

Isn't that a bug?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQINg_uAGzE

I smell further DF analysis coming.
I remember there was another SotC event where they played music from the soundtrack live, but I can't find any info on it sadly.
Both options would be great but THANK GOD they don't force downsampling. That would basically render the game screwed since it runs so poorly in the 4K mode (playable, but not anywhere close to good). It's not worth it.

Wow. I really can't believe the technical problems with this. I wanted to buy it but I'm definitely going to wait now.
Posting on a new page.
Was this game originally a cross-developed PS2 to PS3 game, then released for PS4?
PS4 Pro at 1080p is pretty much 30fps locked.
Standard PS4 drops to 20 fps.
PS4 Pro at 4K drops to around 27fps.
"PS4 Pro comes across as the only machine capable of delivering the ideal experience" according to DF.
Shadow of the Colossus frame rate issues had zero impact on my enjoyment of the game, or it's playability. Perfectly willing to give The Last Guardian a pass on it.
Nope and you DO NOT want it. It would be a very bad thing in this game.
It's only a good thing if there is an option to disable it since it runs poorly using it.
The current setup is not the optimal solution but it's a heck of a lot better than forcing it to run at 1900p in all modes. THAT would be a disaster.
Isn't that a bug?
Anyway technically the game seems to me like the team which was probably small bit off way more than they could chew and were up the creek before they could do anything about it. By the time they had triage teams come in everything was so integrated into their process that the only thing they could do was really get it running.
That said, Jett, I know you'll love the game even if your heart grows only two sizes instead of 3.
Oh, I agree that it should be an option too.We can decide for ourselves, the option should be there for everyone.
4K mode shows a lowest dip to 27fps in the video, that's awful?
I think players should decide and use Rise of the Tomb Raider as the example. More options for Pro users not less.
Oh, I agree that it should be an option too.
...but the issue here is not that it dips to 27fps for a second, rather, that drops are sustained for long periods. The game spends a lot of time under 30fps which means judder and general lack of fluidity.
I really hope this trend doesn't last very long. Just seems like the base PS4 is going to be the worst version of any game. 20fps, really?

I wouldn't see this as a start of a trend. This a special case of a development clusterfuck.
That said, we do live in the darkest timeline after all, and nothing's stopping devs from focusing on the Pro instead of the base PS4 in the future.

Keep in mind that this game doesn't use a lot of high contrast textures or shaders. The benefit to the higher resolution is minimal compared to many other games.

Ps4 Pro best way to play PS3 games confirmed. So it's similar to Final Fantasy XV then where the best way to play is on PS4Pro at 1080p.
