The LG G3 |Android OT| of Wanting Nice Things and Getting Them

I have also just come to the conclusion that the battery "sucks" unfortunately. But I blame the screen for that. It isn't lasting as long as the iPhone 5 so I have ordered 2 extra batteries - unofficial ones.
I set my screen to about 70% brightness and the battery life has been pretty good.

Yeah, I'm also riding commando with my phone. All phones, for that matter.

I don't think it's the screen. It's likely your network/coverage area and the phone depleting itself trying to find the best signal.

I want to vouch for the spigen slim armor case. Adds solid protection without adding much bulk. Looks damn nice too.

But I'm in the middle of Copenhagen. All carriers have great coverage here on 4G.

Doesn't matter. In NYC my battery life is dreadful. In Orange County FL I still have 57% on 18 hours since charge. Using it now in fact.

I have an upgrade Sept 15. It's either this or Note 4.

The G3 Prime and G3 Stylus (5.9 inches) but worse resolution It should be coming September, so look for that also. They should be updated versions of the G3.

It's the G3 Prime that will be the beefier version of the G3 (based on the Beat).

What could make it beefier?

I was almost going to jump on this but I was torn between it and the HTC One m8.
Now i am hearing rumors of a nexus 6 reveal in October so I decided to wait.

I wouldn't have though twice if it was a 1080p screen

Had my G3 since launch, and I absolutely love it. YouTube's giving us some love with some videos formatted for the full res of the screen, which is nice!

I do want to get a QuickCircle cover though, all because KnockOn keeps waking up the screen in my pocket and practically burning a hole in my pocket. Anyone dealt with any heat issues at all? And has anyone actually managed to get their hands on an official QuickCircle case? How's the quality?

Just remember, phones will come out at all times of the year regardless. You wait until Oc/Nov for the Nexus, you'll hear rumours of the Sony Xperia Z3/4 of Q1 2015, and then off the S6 and the One (M9). Be a bit restrictive in your timing. Last year, announcement of the Nexus was October 31st (so Novemeberish). Some are saying there will be no new Nexus but a new 'successor' line of products.

Yeah I understand, and like I said, I really wanted the G3. If no nexus announcement by November then ill probably buy it or the m8 anyway.

Very satisfied with this phone!

Any word on an unlocked bootloader yet? I know one version in the US comes with an unlocked bootloader, but I have the International D855.

How does the G3 stack up against the N5? I'd think people would want to go with a cheaper pure Google device instead of a $600 one skinned with LG bloat?

About 1 hour for full charge from as low as 10%.

Are you using the OEM supplied charger?

Yeah. That one felt light weight compared to my Kindle charger and I get the same result. Using wall outlet and everything.

Think my units defective? I've heard people say the first couple charges are slow, but I'm on charge 8 or 9 and it still takes me hours.

Weird. Have you tried other outlets in the house? Some houses or apartments that are old have been improperly wired over their lifetime and not to code.

I've found my G3 to be particularly free from bloat. I've also ditched the home launcher for Nova Prime, and it's like my dream phone.

Oh no! I just discovered my phone have a scratch in the bottom right corner. How can this be Gorilla Glass 3. =(

Always use a screen cover or case. I was surprised when I got one too on my HTC. You could try and send it back to LG under warranty and claim it was sent damaged.

Apologies in advance for upping this post. I'm really curious about this phone.

What does the person in this video mean when he says the Cat 6 is warmer?

I'm looking at the Cat 6 version because of the warmer tones, Snapdragon 805, and Adreno GPU. I hate that antenna. However, would the Cat 6 LTE work in the US? Excuse me for not knowing what if a Cat 6 LTE band contains support for Cat 4.

Has anyone rooted their device? I'm interested to see how stock (especially Android L) and Cynagenmod run on this. Can anyone running stock or CM post a screenshot or impressions thus far?

From everything I've seen, I wish there was a way to keep the two button shortcuts and multitasking but ditch the rest of the skin.

I wouldn't get the CAT 6 version if you are in the US. Check the bands on your mobile provider to make sure LTE works if you really do want to get it.

I just got this phone last week. Does anyone else have some light bleed(?, brighter white area on white background) at the edges of the display? It's at the bottom right corner on mine and kinda bugs me. Just wondering if it's worth an exchange(and setting everything back up again) or if it's a common issue with the phone?

I haven't noticed anything on mine.

Picked up my g3 and I'm loving it. Already have it rooted and I can't wait til it gets unlocked but I'm loving the LG rom anyway.

Verizon Bloat is the only bad thing about the phone.

Biggest complaint after a month is that while connecting my G3 to my Panasonic AppRadio 3 car deck via Bluetooth, it'll start playing audio, then do an awful stuttering for about 30 seconds while it sends file information to the deck. It'll then return to normal, but it makes it completely unlistenable during that time.

Note 2 never had that problem. Hope it gets fixed quick.

Dropped the FUCK out of my phone the other day and not one chip on it. It even fell flat on its screen after bouncing around two walls. My stomach churned as I reached down to pick it up off the tile floor.

I forgot I left the phone in my jeans, so when I was getting dressed in my closet after taking a shower, I grabbed my jeans up off the floor a bit too harshly and the phone just went hurling out of the pocket - hit one wall, bounced into a second, and then landed on the screen. I picked it up...Nothing. The cover came a bit loose and I just snapped it back on.

Had this been one of my iPhones or HTC One...I'm certain the phone would've been kaput. Examples like this are just one of the many reasons why I ultimately prefer phones with plastic shells - they just seem to absorb impact better.

Had my phone for about a week now, switching from the iPhone 5. I was planning to wait for the iPhone 6, but decided to hop on the iPhone S release cycle starting next year when they release the 6S.

Phone is slick and is a refreshing change after being on the Apple train for the past 5 years or so.

Daydream mode is a nice touch when I'm charging. Knock Code is dope. The infrared port is cool and configuring the remote control software to control your TV and other devices is straight forward. Someone let me know how to get it to work on my Xbox one (lol). I like the small touches. Overall, a well delivered package.

A few beefs though:

A couple of the apps I use aren't compatible with this phone (Credit Karma app). I'm guessing this has something to do with the screen resolution?

The screen is great when you actually find apps, wallpaper, etc that are in that resolution natively, but that's the problem. There isn't much out there to really take advantage of it.

The speaker quality and placement irritates me.

I'm not sure what's causing this and it could just be me, but my phone seems to have a problem rendering video and web pages with a number of animated objects (gifs) on screen. If I'm watching a video in chrome and decide to "scrub" to another portion of it, there is a delay that runs a second or two too long before it begins playing at the new position. Also, when i hit pages like the "Pics that make you laugh OT" thread that has a ton of pictures and gifs, my LG has trouble rendering this even after the page completely laods. Everything just seems choppy. My iPhone didn't have any of these issues.

LG has really stepped up their game on mobile devices. I am so happy with my nexus 5 that I got an LG Gpad (google play edition) too. I bet the G3 is just that much nicer, and its good to know that if the nexus line every goes away you can get good android devices elsewhere. Not bad for a company that got its start making soap.

just copped one. how do i know if it's actually overheating or if i'm not just using it too much?

right now i'm loading up all the apps i like to use and it's warm around all those buttons on the back of the phone.

10 minute impressions:

The white issue isn't as big of a deal as I thought it would be. However, how do I fix this? I need the whites to look warmer. Can someone explain to me how to access the accessibility settings to chamge this? Apple spoiled me with a their ease of use.

It's easily the best phone I've ever used and I used to HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE on Android especially after my friend used NFC as talking point against the iphone in 2011. HOW COME YOU ALL KEPT THIS TO YOURSELVES? The jump from ICs onward brought an influx of strong improvements to the OS.

I can use this device one handed although it takes some getting used to.

I'm remapping the buttons to mimic my iphone because I'm lazy.

Dat bezel is easily the coolest shit ever. It feels like it's all screen in my hands. I have small hands by the way.

The metallic black version is too carrier branded for my taste.

The internet speeds are fast but I'm concerned about how this device holds up over three years.

I keep going back and forth between this and the G3 LTE-A. It's almost equal cost if I buy this off contract from a carrier versus buying the LTE-A off Amazon. The LTE-A is 795 whereas the G3 off contract is $700. It comes to a $95 difference for 5 percent extra performance but with an SOC that can fully push those pixels without trouble. Plus, the G3 LTE-A is compatible with T-Mobile/ATT 3G and LTE.

The speaker isn't as bad as all 50 (that's right I'm a nerd) reviews I watched made it put to be. It's slightly below (literally by a score of 5-7) the universally regarded best speaker HTC M8.

Is it me or does the skin hurt the device's appeal? I wanted to install the Google Now launcher so bad to test out the device. At least let me change the colors on the skin.

I feel like a boss holding this device. This is what a smartphone should feel like. I pay all this money and I want to feel like I have a fucking light saber in my hands.

This is not a completely a cross post because I want to know how this device looks with different launchers. I've seen it with the Google Now launcher and the Nokia Z launcher. Does the white color issue decrease with different launchers? Have any software updates fixed this or is this not fixable?

That's it for impressions.

I'm in need of a new phone and this bad boy is definitely on my radar. As Furyous mentioned, I'm wondering how the build quality is. I'm VERY careful with my phones but have had some bad luck with picking phones as of late - my current 'paperweight' is a Sony ZL. A couple of co-workers were commenting on how LG phones in the past were pure garbage and LG's customer service was worse than Rogers/Bell (and that's saying a lot!) Can anyone comment?
