The LG G3 |Android OT| of Wanting Nice Things and Getting Them

So I've run into a pretty odd screen issue with my G3.

Starting sometime yesterday morning, I couldn't type the letter R anymore on the keyboard. I figured maybe just a keyboard issue since I could type the 4 above it and letters all around. Restarted the phone, same problem. Shut it down, removed battery and restarted, still happening. Now I can't type 4's either.

I did notice when swiping to unlock or swiping pages it would get caught up in that area, either slow down or stop the swipe. So I opened up a quickmemo and started drawing back and forth, and this is what happened.

Screen is dead in that area the entire height of the screen.

About an hour later the screen magically fixes itself and it works fine again. Then broken again, then fixed. I noticed when it would fix itself the screen would twitch for a second and then everything would work super fast for a bit. Regardless, it kept happening. In addition, the screen started freaking out and moving around and starting apps without me even touching the screen.

Once I got home last night, I backed up what I needed and did a hard reset. I didn't notice any issues right away and went to sleep, however this morning it seemed again like the screen was going haywire without me even touching it. However there was no dead portion of the screen, until a few minutes ago. Can't type R's, haha.

Anyone else see or hear of this happening? I'm gonna go to Verizon tomorrow and hopefully get a replacement. Although since it keeps fixing itself, I'll probably have to sit there for an hour until it screws up again and I can show them the issues.

Somebody posted the same thing earlier in this thread. Had his phone replaced next day.

It's crazy, but I might have actually picked the G3 if they stuck with the 5.2 inch screen. I know everyone here probably loves the size at 5.5, but overall dimensions are too much for me.

just chiming in to say that I got a G2 a month ago and loving it very much. leagues better than my former mini s4 (lol) for only £50 more, awesome!

show them that pic you posted. good luck

Yea I went in and showed them that picture and they're sending me a replacement. With Verizon after 15 days they give you a refurb, but as long as the screen works and it's not scratched up I dont care.

G3 needs more love. I have had spent time with the M8 and the GS5 and feel the G3's thin bezel design and overall fit and finish put it at the top of all android devices. LG's skin is pretty minimal too compared to the others.

Just grabbed a G3 a couple days ago and loving it. It was either that, the iPhone 6, or the M8. Still getting used to holding thing thing though lol...coming from having an iPhone 4s for 3 years and all.

I was really concerned about the supposed overheating issue some people seem to be having with the G3 but so far, mine's been fine.

After a few weeks with G3, I still REALLY love this phone. Its plastic on the back but it feels and looks different than any plastic phone I've used. Feels and looks very premium. Such a great design all around. I notice the oversharpened screen sometimes and that is sort of annoying but the screen is altogether fantastic.

Camera is amazing, though I wish the video stabilization was better.

Man just such a great phone all around though. My only REAL annoyance is that it does stutter occasionally, which never really happened on my old Galaxy Nexus. It really should be silky smooth all the time. Usually it is, but every once in awhile it rears its ugly head.

So my Nexus 4 is finally biting the dust (constant crashes, lag, reboots all the time).

I am left wondering what to get.

This, or the Nexus 5.

I have to get a phone this week (work needs especially) so I really need to decide!

I mainly use my phone for work emails & occasion remote connection, a ton for camera, and regular use like calls and texts and web browsing.

Well ladies and gentlemen I am in love. Got this beauty of a phone earlier today on a whim and its a big improvement over my Galaxy S4.

Love the size of the phone, the resolution, customizable home buttons, etc. No cons as of yet but I havent been able to play with it as much as I'd like. Was tempted to get the iphone 6 plus but in the end I just cant see myself owning IOS on a phone and the plus is a bit too much compared to the G3. Cant go any higher than this size

Nothing really. They're probably skipping straight to Android L just like they skipped the G2's later Jelly Bean updates for Kit Kat.

Anyone know a way around Tethering restrictions for ATT?

So annoying that I had unlimited tethering with my Nexus 4 and now that I have an LG G3 I no longer do.

Gonna order this next week I think.

Currently using a Samsung Galaxy Ace, it was a bargain smart phone. Snapchat barely works on it and there's very little space to install apps.

Within the year (2014)? Or within a year (by Oct. 2015)?

Probably within 2014. That's when I imagine Samsung will.

Still, I've never understood the hype of getting an pdate to a non-stock phone. The design will probably be exactly the same, and some features won't show up.

I'm rooted now, so I'm patiently waiting for a good stock Lollipop ROM.

I love my G3 but it seems that the signal strength is pretty crappy compared to my previous Note 2. I am on ATT and have used the phone in all areas of home, work, etc as before and the signal is constantly hovering around 2-3 bars at the most with tons of dropped calls.

Anyone else experiencing this? Is this normal?
Get one of those ATT micro cells, I have shit reception in my house and just got tired of it so I called them and made up some bullshit about how my reception has gotten worse over the last few months(its always sucked) after a couple days they called me back and said it was an old tower that was slated for repair but they didn't know when that would be, they would be happy to sell me a micro cell for 200 bucks plus 20 a month though.

long story short, after a few more phone calls and online chats with customer representatives I worked the story to my favor and said I was going to find a new carrier so they offered to give one to me for free

I now have full bars throughout my entire house. But keep in mind I got them to admit that the problem was there on their end and it was documented.you probably wouldn't even have to go through as much trouble as I did to get it though.

Is it only me or have the keyboard gotten way worse than before after the latest keyboard update?

The predictions are bad now and include smileys.

I didn't like the stock keyboard. Get the Google one.

Does it have the swiping feature and automatic spacing between words?

Because I swipe when writing.

EDIT:
I can't install this keyboard on my G3 in Denmark. Funny enough it's possible on a Galaxy Nexus.

I received my LG G3 today, love it so far, been using it all day trying different apps and such.

Suddenly I can't unlock the phone, I input my knock pattern but it says "Try again", I'm absolutely inputting the correct knock pattern as I've been doing since I first got it.

Any help?

edit: fixed it with my Pin Code, naivety with modern phones here =p

Besides that.. I'm really impressed with this phone, it's so fast and smooth, apps work beautifully on it. It's night and day better than my previous smartphone (samsung galaxy ace)

I've used up about half of my internal storage 8/16GB, what about everybody else? I understand you can root your phone to remove some bloatware, not going to lie there's a lot of Google products on my phone that I will never use, yet can't uninstall.

Rooting is something I'll need to look further into, I've never done it before.

I'd used about 11 GBs, but that's between the 32 GB internal storage and the 64 GB SD card.

Got myself a G3 about two weeks ago. Been great! Like it's a no thrills phone, but everything just works so well right now. Wanted to get a Z3 but that's another two weeks wait and my old phone (S4) was so broken that I could barely take calls.

The sales rep wanted to pimp me on a Note 4 but man after the S3 & S4 I think I'm done with any phone that feels like it could snap if I stare at it too long.

I assumed the buttons on the back would annoye me, but find them a welcome change when not having to click buttons on the side when using the phone. Double click on screen has completely replaced button use for me (outside volume rocking).

Got the white one though, hides the cheap metal look :p

On another note, I've quite grown old when it comes to android customization. Like my choice of phone was usually based on how much support it gets on XDA, but now I just want a near stock experience (Moto X ain't here, nor is Nexus) with a decent feeling phone.

I've been eyeing the G3 because the battery in my nexus 5 seems to be on the way out. There are mixed reports on the battery life of the G3, what's the real world experience like for moderate to heavy use during the day?

Well I average around 14h to get to about 50%.
Checking my stats now, I have another 13h estimated time on battery left (49%). Power saving jumps in at 30% which should extend it even further.

Essentially I charge it when I go to bed, it's at about 44%-43% by then.
I'm pretty sure I can pull out another full work day without having to charge it (with the power saving kicking in)

I was worried since most reviews said the screen eats all that juice, but assume there was an update that helped this as right now it's great. Don't think I've heard that low battery warning once in the last few weeks.

Then again my usage might be different than yours. To clarify a bit, on my S4 I would have gotten the low battery warning about 2-3 hours ago with the same amount of usage/ time spent since last charge. (That includes using juice defender type apps which kills of functions that's not needed).

I imagine if you debloat the G3 you would get even more out of it.

16GB version = bad battery.
32GB and above = great battery.

Something about the small version is not optimized.

I carry around 2 extra batteries in my wallet for the day.

It lasts a whole day with constant use. I think is good. You might even get more mileage out of it tweaking some options.

Absolutely NO truth to this. I have a 16GB and the battery life is seemingly endless. I've gone to bed forgetting to charge it, only to wake up and see it drained 4% in the 9 hours I was asleep, so I woke up to about 74%. The phone is incredibly smart when the screen is shut off, it seems to go into some sort of hibernation that seemingly brings battery drain to a crawl.

My phone is also constantly downloading my work emails (I receive about 100-200 daily). Facebook is on. Live weather widgets. And some other stuff.

I like to think the battery is good for me. I leave work on 100% and do between an hour and hour and a half (most days an hour) commute home and sometimes it still sits at 100% after using the SiriusXM app streaming the entire commute. That shit blows my mind when I still see it at 100%.
