The LG G3 |Android OT| of Wanting Nice Things and Getting Them

Thanks to a Gaffer giving me a Ting referrer code way back in January and Ting's current Black Friday sale, I got a G3 for only 400 (150 off!!).

Really looking forward to this upgrade over my HTC EVO 3D which has been nothing but trouble lately.

Is rooting still recommended for this phone, or is it fine on its own?
 
Is there a way to make my screen light up when I get a text message? Using Hangouts, but I could switch apps if need be.

I've used my phone for a few months now without a case or screen protector. Dropped it about 5 times :(, but it doesn't even have a scratch and performs perfectly.

But I buy a protection plan for the phone anyway

EDIT: idk if it installed. after doing the whole updating x of x apps. there was a dialog box that popped up. didn't read other than saw battery on it. but when i checked the version it's still 4.4.2.

and when i tried to check for the update it doesn't pop up. my battery was like 50 something so that may be it. now i have to wait? LOL FML.

I got that update a week ago, but it's not the Lollipop update.
 
I guess when they said the LG G3 would get the Lollipop update this year, they only meant Poland. I'm still hoping we will get it in the rest of Europe soon though.
 
Was fix ever devised for the over-aggressive noise cancellation? I would like to use my G3 to video music performances (acoustic/classical), but the audio quality often takes a big hit from this "feature."

Just away to look but you saved me from looking.

Remember when I had a HTC Hero, the 2.0 update was out on Three network 8 months later than everywhere else. They were awful as they felt the need to update mythree type crap apps everyone deletes which added on time.

Still to be honest I'm over the moon with my LGg3 and not since the HTC hero have I been so impressed with a phone, especially the button placement. A late update to 5.0 isn't something that is upsetting me

I'll play around with it for a few hours and let you know.

So far the switch between windows is fluid. the running apps screen is more clear, like windows on a PC stacked upon each other. Background on the 3 buttons on the bottom has gone on the home screen. (Cant remember if it was there pre-update)

Running smoothly though.
 
I picked up this phone on Friday at Best Buy. I was off contract through AT&T using an iPhone 5. By signing a new 2yr contract I got the phone for $1 and was able to keep my grandfathered unlimited data plan.

So far I love it.
 
So I broke my second G3 because I'm a clumsy idiot. I have TMobile's JUMP and I'm wondering if I should just get a different phone instead. I do worry about additional cost and if I do stick with the G3 I'm going to need a really durable case.
 
Anyone else's G3 have micro cracks on the top (near the Infrared) and bottom (near the mic input)? I've noticed them on mine - and was alarmed considering I've never dropped or mishandled my phone. Doing some research, it seems like a lot of other people are experiencing the same.

Nope. A co-worker did warn me about how easily breakable the camera lens is though.

Was meaning to post about how great this phone was but strangely got my first lock up when trying to post here. Had to remove my battery and restart it. Anyone have that happen to them yet?

Also, just curious, but does anyone actually use the NFC feature for anything useful?

I do have a tiny crack near the mic. Was wondering how it got there.

Also lollipop is rolling out for the G3 everywhere but the US. Cmon LG/T-Mobile!!


Edit: wtf I have a micro crack at the top as well lol. I think it might be due to gripping the phone too hard.

It's great if you have any Bluetooth devices that allow NFC pairing. I have a Sony Bluetooth speaker and it takes just a few seconds to pair rather than the traditional pin code method.

Tried Google Wallet a few times. Works okay, but not sure it's any easier than using and actual card.

I saw a matte version going on eBay, but the only thing so far have been decals like Slickwraps. I signed up for testing and still use the red textured one. They almost cover the entire back cover plate, and look/feel nice. Easy to remove as well.
 
I have a new G3, but the knock on is not working to turn the the screen off, it stopped working after some hours, what can I do?
 
Shit...my screen has developed a weird yellow/orange blot in the top right corner. And it's gotten a little bigger. :'(
