The LG G3 |Android OT| of Wanting Nice Things and Getting Them

I'm in need of a new phone and this bad boy is definitely on my radar. As Furyous mentioned, I'm wondering how the build quality is. I'm VERY careful with my phones but have had some bad luck with picking phones as of late - my current 'paperweight' is a Sony ZL. A couple of co-workers were commenting on how LG phones in the past were pure garbage and LG's customer service was worse than Rogers/Bell (and that's saying a lot!) Can anyone comment?

I don't have one, but my co worker does. Its better than Samsung's build, but still keep in mind its a plastic phone. So unless you want marks fast, put a case on it.

Otherwise, its a damn nice phone. Almost wish I would have waited and got this instead of the M8....almost.

I have the QuickCircle case with wireless charging and the Zagg tempered glass covering the front, and it's holding up excellently with no impact on the user experience. Love it.

I stumbled across a way to improve the contrast ratio:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/themes-apps/super-amoled-contrast-g3-display-t2817248

People on different message boards revealed that this solves the overheating issue and almost eliminates the sharpening issue. Does anyone have any experience changing the contrast ratio and what were your resutlts?

I'm sorry for asking so many questions.

It's really difficult to find the right contrast. I don't see how this would solve the overheating issues? Could you explain or post a link?

This is my new phone and I fucking love it. This camera kicks ass.

The only minor annoyance is how there's a little lag with the keyboard, but other than that the G3 is a beast.

Buyer's remorse avoided about getting the G3. Thanks Apple! (Still getting the Iphone 6plus for the wife tho)

Is it better than the stock G3 keyboard?

I'm finding the lg keyboard better. If you rely more on predictions, then the google keyboard/swiftkey might be the choice for you.

I did have some questions about the phone though.
I ended up switching the developer options to ART, however it is still a bit laggy for me. I did play around with the window transitions/animations also. Is there any way to reduce the lag more?

Has LG commented on Android L updates for this phone?

I'm still able to return this phone and pick out a HTC One M8 however I'm not a huge fan of sense.

Hey G3 GAF.

I'm thinking of finally retiring my Galaxy Nexus and getting the G3...even though I hate how it has a verizon logo on it >.<

Ive heard it can overheat though, is that true?

I love my G3 but it seems that the signal strength is pretty crappy compared to my previous Note 2. I am on ATT and have used the phone in all areas of home, work, etc as before and the signal is constantly hovering around 2-3 bars at the most with tons of dropped calls.

Anyone else experiencing this? Is this normal?

Thinking of upgrading soon. The G2 is the best smartphone ive ever owned but its starting to look a little rough around the edges. How much worse the the battery on he G3?

Not that much. Unless you are literally using like 90% of the G2's battery daily, you won't notice that much of a difference if at all.

I came from a G2, and prior to that an iPhone 5s. G2 had the best battery life I've used, G3 has the second best battery life out of any phone I've used. You'll easily get a full day from it, and people average close to 5 hours of screen time (although I'm more around the 4 and a half mark)

Depends if he gets the 16 or 32gb variant.

I have the 16gb one and the battery isn't great.

I am starting to hate this phone. Stupid thing keeps freezing and requires a battery pull to fix it.
It's been a little laggy for me too. The biggest issue I'm having though is that sometimes the phone will not respond to Swype and it'll just start typing individual letters.

Wow I had this problem in Optimus days I cant believe LG still hasnt fixed it.
Never had to pull the battery out of Moto G once... which is good since it cant be removed..

The worst part is it is becoming more frequent since it started. I'm not sure if it's just my phone (like a hardware issue such as overheating), but it's up to about 3/4 times a day now. I'm going to call LG. Perhaps it's a hardware issue and they would send me a replacement.

You guys might have an app that's running and causing this.

Mine has been flawless since I bought it. In fact, even better since I disabled some junk running and uninstalled apps I don't need.

It hasn't happened to me, so don't think as if this was something everyone experiences.

Ditched my wireless charging-enabled Quick Circle case for a Hyperion Titan case and it's additional protection, which is a good thing, because my son accidentally smacked the phone out of my hands the next day and sent it bouncing onto the ceramic floor. But no damage, so whew.

Haven't had to pull my battery a single time on the VZW model, and only had it shut down from overheating once, so I'm pretty happy with it. Only gripe is that I can't use the Google Dialer with the built-in Google Now search stuff. The LG dialer is much uglier and less useful.

Just got mine today,i fucking love this phone. Quick question for those who have experience with it. Do apps only use data usage when they are active or do they do stuff in the background.last thing i want us a dead battery due to an app running in the background. If they do run in the background is there a setting to change it.kind of like how Motorola does when you activate the smart Battery options

Consumer Reports did a stress test on the LG G3 and it came in as 2nd strongest phone, withstanding 130lbs of pressure before bending. The iPhone 6 Plus only needed 90lbs.

The Galaxy Note 3 won with 150lbs.

It seems to disable apps and their usage by default if they're in the background.

I just go to the data settings and restrict background data for all the apps that don't really need it.

Is it possible to connect my phone to my HDTV with a HDMI cable?

It's lagging way too much when streaming a video to Chromecast.

Excellent, thanks guys.last thing would be if there is a way to respond to texts on the lock screen?

One piece of advice - make sure you look at the way this phone sharpens text in person. I loved the design of this phone and honestly it felt like a winner but the ultra sharpening was painful to look at.

As far as I know, there is still no way to disable it.

Sort of. There's two options once you've gotten a text:

1) Unlock the phone by swiping the text app. It instantly takes you to the recent text.

2) My personal fave, swipe the screen open and right on your home screen the text message will display and you can respond directly from your home screen, without being in the text app.

In light of #radiationgate, take a look at the LG G3's radiation 'emissions' if you will. Extremely low compared to the iPhone 6.

And now Apple's:

That's not how Chromecast works. When you cast something using your phone, it tells the Chromecast where to look on the internet for that content. It doesn't stream from your phone.

So my dad is out of town and i am using his G3 temporarily. Is it me or the screen is oversharpened and have a low contrast ? the effect feels strange. Also battery life is disappointing

You can adjust the contrast in accessibility settings. Out of the box it does look slightly washed out. I have my calibration settings similar to what's in the link below and it's a huge difference.

So I've run into a pretty odd screen issue with my G3.

Starting sometime yesterday morning, I couldn't type the letter R anymore on the keyboard. I figured maybe just a keyboard issue since I could type the 4 above it and letters all around. Restarted the phone, same problem. Shut it down, removed battery and restarted, still happening. Now I can't type 4's either.

I did notice when swiping to unlock or swiping pages it would get caught up in that area, either slow down or stop the swipe. So I opened up a quickmemo and started drawing back and forth, and this is what happened.

JNq1JWw.jpg

Screen is dead in that area the entire height of the screen.

About an hour later the screen magically fixes itself and it works fine again. Then broken again, then fixed. I noticed when it would fix itself the screen would twitch for a second and then everything would work super fast for a bit. Regardless, it kept happening. In addition, the screen started freaking out and moving around and starting apps without me even touching the screen.

Once I got home last night, I backed up what I needed and did a hard reset. I didn't notice any issues right away and went to sleep, however this morning it seemed again like the screen was going haywire without me even touching it. However there was no dead portion of the screen, until a few minutes ago. Can't type R's, haha.

Anyone else see or hear of this happening? I'm gonna go to Verizon tomorrow and hopefully get a replacement. Although since it keeps fixing itself, I'll probably have to sit there for an hour until it screws up again and I can show them the issues.
