Not sure why people are complaining. This is pretty much exactly how all the Apple press conferences start. Show us other things they're doing, throw out boring stats, and get the business out of the way early before getting on to the real reason they're there.

I think there's a bias toward their huge product announcements, which were generally really well done--iPhone, iPad, and even Apple Watch.

Those were pretty slick presentations.

Ain't nobody recycling their iphone - the resale value is too good. It's why so many people stick with Apple

We've recycled nearly 100 iOS devices at my work in the last 2 years, and will be recycling about 100 more in the next year. It's great if we can do it for free now, because before we had to pay a company to take them.

Haha I love this. Apple's showing its responsible side and all the shallow people are like "this sucks"

It's great that for profit companies are doing these things, but it's not very compelling stuff form an event perspective.

Oh boy, so much filler. I guess that was easier than trying to have Jony wave hands about how iPhone SE reinvents the idea of reinvention

hopefully there's something about hiring latinos.."Apple is now hiring few latinos/hispanics. Progress!"

Sure, but most of those reveals start out the same way too. The first 20-30 minutes of these conferences have been like this for awhile.

When they could be making a profit off of them.

With every of these innovation, millions of traditional blue collar jobs are killed. Somehow I really don't like this.

Haha oh don't worry. There are still plenty of labor slaves making your clothes and gadgets for you despite how many jobs are being "killed."

If they didn't talk about this stuff at events, no one would notice or care. This puts things like this center stage which is a good thing, IMO.

I know most people just want the new devices being announced, but I really like how they are opening today's event. Environment & health, love it!

Point taken, but the vast majority of people aren't watching the event so this news will either a) not be of interest) or b) will be found out about those that want to know. All of the news will get out as usual.

And I actually think the health information, particularly re autism, really interesting.

You guys know this thing is two hours long, right? They have a lot more to show.

Yeah, but why start with awful c-tier announcements? This shit should be hidden in the deepest levels of apple.com or mentioned in passing, not being featured prominently in a press conference.

The big problem with research kit and health kit is that the sensors on the iPhone and Apple Watch just aren't that good. Like the heart rate stuff is even worse than a fitbit.

I do not think it's about being shallow...it's more like...to use the E3 analogy...being shown a CG teaser with no gameplay or just them talking about stuff like "cloud." This event is for consumers, while they are showing things that consumers, generally do not care about. It is interesting, but should not be the point of an Apple conference.
