The Metal Thread |OT2| All Riffs, No Gifs

Yo one of you bastards better describe the contents of this supposed depressing Kerrang Metallica interview! Even Kerrang's website is hyping it up as an "emotional" conversation. Are they just talking about Cliff or some shit?

OH, ALSO! I'm drunk and have been listening to Cro-Mags, which is apparently punk but sounds like dirty metal so if anyone has any punk recommendations in a similar vein I'd be much obliged :D

They where just talking about how their getting old, joints don't work like they used to, vocals don't work like they used to, not being sure how much more longer they can do it for because of their physical ailments, etc.

:
I get this. I mean it's pretty pretentious overall - especially when they really aren't anything special on a technical level. hipster black metal is usually what people refer to it as..

That removed Krallice link song was decent. Pretty good riff...

that's the worst part of the album

Those chants literally ruin what was otherwise a very solid song. It's a good thing that it's at the end so I can easily skip it.

Fucking haters. The breakdown with the chants is awesome.

Oh, yeah I saw something about that on another site. Looks like we may get one more album and then they're gone.

how can you talk about hammerfall and not link the curling video

anyway, glory to the brave is dope and i might give that a spin today

Wow, I've never seen that video before. That's a good video, hilarious I may even say.

Metallica's response to all those who where protesting because of Hetfield's bear hunting show voice work

They did a good job with handling the entire controversy. Shame that some people objected to them because they happen to be "Metal", aside from the whole hunting thing.

So Naturbål is up on Spotify where I live at least, having listened to it a few times not I like it a lot. It's basically more of the same as the previous two albums but those where also of high quality so that's not necessarily a bad thing. The one thing that sticks out is the use of female vocals on two of the songs which works surprisingly well I feel. My favorite moment so far is probably the chorus on Rymdens Brinnande Öar (directly translates into "The burning islands of space" which sounds incredibly cheesy in english) but the overall best song is probably Överallt och ingenstans. It's worth checking out if you are at all into black/folk metal.

New Vintersorg? Hell yes.

I rarely see anybody talk about them but the dudes have been putting out exceptionally high quality music for a long, long time. Check them OUT!

EDIT: Aww, both of those videos have been taken down.

Here's my favorite song about a werewolf as a consolation prize

Today was the first day in quite a long time where I was able to catch up on some of the stuff that has been released lately.

I'm pretty disappointed with the new Septicflesh. Just not my cup of tea I guess.

On the other hand I'm loving the new Agalloch and the new Vallenfyre. They are evoking totally different emotions, but both are great.

Now I'm anxiously awaiting the new Priest album. I haven't heard the songs that were available for streaming, so have no idea what to expect. I just want it to be good. ;)

Got home from seeing Agalloch just a bit ago. Fucking awesome set (two hours) – even better than when I saw them a few years ago. Every song from the new record aside from the opener and the interludes, two each from Marrow and Ashes, and one each from The Mantle and Pale Folklore.

*swoon*

I'm sooo excited for their Denver show, just one more week!

So let me ask you guys a question. Do you listen to other stuff? I find I'm the only one of my friends that their favorite band is Phish but I'm often listening to the music of Opeth or BBTAM mixed in with some Porcupine Tree. Do you guys just do metal or is it a bit of everything? Do you guys also hate on clean vocals? I know some guys who hate clean lyrics and won't listen to it if there is no distorted lyrics.

I listen to mostly hard rock these days and really enjoy clean vocals. When the hard rock station on satellite radio drags, I flip to the metal channel. I'm also quite fine with 90's grunge. In my wife's car we listen to country. I don't mind it, but I surely wouldn't seek it out. It's all about the songcraft. It it's good, I'll appreciate it.

I often change musical tastes with the season such as in autumn: Neil Young, Pink Floyd, acoustic music, thrash. Winter: Black metal and so on.

Right on SourShoes. I'm glad to see there are more people like me out there. I try not to limit myself so that I can have good musical conversation with anyone who doesn't listen to pop music of today. I wish Justin Beiber would choke on a Cheddar Bay Biscuit.

When I was younger I was only into Metal, but as I grew up and today I've learned to broaden my horizon, now I listen to everything from Rock, Pop, Hip-Hop and other stuff I find interesting.

Also I was a huge techno freak back in the day. Those days are over.

Yeah, when I was younger I had a really huge metal phase. Listened almost exclusively to metal. Then I had a bit of a phase where I never listened to metal because I thought it was immature or something stupid. Now I've gone back to metal. I listen to a good mix of stuff and metal's right there with a bunch of other genres. I mostly listen to any sort of music that's proggy or experimental or something like that, whether it's metal or not.

For vocals I tend to really love the metal bands that switch back and forth between clean vocals and growls/grunts/screams. Makes things more interesting and dynamic.

I listened to metal pretty much exclusively when I was 13-16 so until about four years ago. After I moved away from metal I began listening to a lot of different stuff and now I'll listen to pretty much anything. I find myself going back to metal mostly when there's a new album out that I'm interested in.

I find people disliking metal with clean vocals very odd since metal as a whole began with clean vocals with the likes of Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. I'm indifferent about the vocals, grindcore isn't really a subgenre I enjoy outside of Melt-Banana (and grindcore is inspiration for them more than anything)

yes, mostly Italo Disco, Eurobeat and 80s Pop.

Of course. I'm a complete nut about many other genres. Love Classical, Jazz, Hip-Hop, and Alternative/Indie in particular; alongside other genres (though not to the extent of those five). Metal is No. 1, however, and that's saying something.

I just discovered Ghost. wow!

awesome sound. Funny how the vocals remind me alot of the Beatles

not sure if they're loved or hated here, but o well

Listening to Cam'ron atm. Metal's my first love but I've been listening to it for so long now I think I would have gone insane if everything was distorted and growly all the time.

I mostly listen to hard rock, heavy metal and power metal these days, though i have a little bit of everything except pop in my music library.

Now now, lets not be hateful. Cheddar Bay Biscuits are far to delicious for that swine.

Serdce's Timelessness is really making a great case for my personal Album of the Year.

Check it out if you're into stuff like Cynic. It does get kind of Dream Theater-y at times, but I still fucking love it.

I feel like if you namedrop Cynic you should clarify with Focus Cynic or modern Cynic.

I'm teetering on the verge of getting into hip-hop and blast trance and other EDM/classic rock on occasion, but it's mostly metal here.
