The Metal Thread |OT2| All Riffs, No Gifs

I just discovered Ghost. wow!

awesome sound. Funny how the vocals remind me alot of the Beatles

not sure if they're loved or hated here, but o well

They're great. Bought "Opus Eponymous" when it was released and was hooked. Same story with "Infestissumam". I have no idea where they're headed with the next album, as I thought the previous two were quite different from each other, but I can't wait 'til it arrives.:-)

By the way, they've recorded a cover of a Beatles-tune: http://youtu.be/9OUWgxu7xng.

Brace yourself. 4AD have just tweeted a link to this website, solely hosting the above image and the label's logo, paving the way for a mighty, mighty, mighty collaboration between Scott Walker and Sunn O))).

Confirming the project, a source at the label told us: "They're working together and there is a record coming later in the year", but wouldn't be pressed on more details. For now, behold.
The Quietus

Well this is interesting.

Whoa! That's an interesting collaboration. First Ulver, now the guy behind The Drift (who started as a Pop Musician, LOL)? I'll keep my eyes on this project.

I'm pretty sure Walker went insane sometime at the end of his pop-career. I mean, going from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XprkIbphGf8 (which I think is amazing btw) to this (which in it's own, farty way is awesome, too)?

I just hope the announced "regular" sunn album will be released this year as well.

I mostly listen to hard rock, heavy metal and power metal these days, though i have a little bit of everything except pop in my music library.

Now now, lets not be hateful. Cheddar Bay Biscuits are far to delicious for that swine.

Everyone knows that an evening at Red Lobster is no small affair. I press my jeans, put on my finest hair product, and drench myself in a musky cologne. Hell, I may even shine up my wing tipped shoes, for I am going to Red Lobster. I strut through the door with my finest lady on my arm and throw up two fingers to the Hostess. I glide past the lobster tank with ease knowing that yet again I will not be eating a red lobster at Red Lobster (who would). I take a seat and before the waiter asks us for our drinks I request 20 cheddar bay biscuits. It's such a bold move that music stops, glasses clink, and everyone in a 5 yard radius gasps in disbelief/shock. Even my company gives me a look of concern. The waiter says " s..sir are you sure?". I don't sweat one bit and I tell that waiter to step and make with the cbb's. he comes back with three baskets filled with biscuits (7 in 2 and 6 in another). I thank the waiter. Then I go straight baller!!!! I'm pounding biscuits left and right. Smashing them in old dudes faces, rubbing them between my ladies titties, telling the waiter to fuck off. I cause a ruckus, only get cbb's, don't pay a dime, and leave with my girl plus three more. That's generally what happens every time I go to Red Lobster, I've gotten banned from 33 locations.

I'm only marginally familiar with Thou and Ash Borer, but they are playing a show near me soon and tickets are only $10

I'm assuming nobody would like to talk me out of going? I have to work the next day and I'm not a fan of either (because I haven't listened to them before), but I've at least seen Thou get some praise in this thread.

Yeah Thou are imo the best doom/sludge band around and Heathen is AotY so far. I won't talk you out of it :)

In other show news: tonight's Kvelertak! As you may or may not remember, there was this dilemma with Kylesa playing that same night in another venue in my town, but yeah, that venue closed down last week. Sucks for Kylesa, but at least it makes my decision easier :|

Edit; OH SNAP apparently Kylesa hopped onto the Kvelertak show?! HOLD ME

*thumbs up*

Looks like I'll give Heathen a few spins this week, and if it wins me over (I'm sure it will), I'll go.

But before that... I'M SEEING MOTHERF'ING SLOUGH FEG ON SATURDAY (along with High Spirits). Anyone else going?

Also upcoming:

Boris/Subrosa
Power Trip
King Diamond
Russian Circles (this one is free - rad)
Manowar
Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats
Midnight
King Crimson
Ares Kingdom

Living in a city with an active music scene (Chicago) is so rad. I'm going to *try* to make it to most of these, but I might skip out on King Crimson and Manowar because of the price. Still, if any of you blokes are coming to any of the same ones I am, let me know and I'll buy you a beer!

Hey MetalGAF,

Anyone here listen to Havok? They're a thrash band formed in 2004, but unlike a lot of newer thrash bands these days, they don't sound like an 80's thrash tribute band. I'm going to see them live next month in London, can't wait!

Here's a few songs for people who may not have heard of them-

Havok - From the Cradle to the Grave
Havok - Point of No Return
Havok - Out of My Way

Edit: Just a heads up, if you find yourself liking them and want to check out more song, be weary of the video for 'Point of No Return', it's extremely not safe for work....and probably life too, lol. I posted the song only above, no video.

Havok are great. Unnatural Selection is a terrific album.

I like how they aren't afraid to grow and try new things, reminds me of Metallica in the 80's. Unnatural section has slower songs and more "singing" compared to screaming or shouting in every track like Time Is Up or Burn.

Been watching their live videos on YouTube, they know how to put on a good show. Pete Webber is a machine, never seems to miss a beat.

Yeah, I'm really only familiar with Unnatural Selection and Time Is Up. I like em both.

I've often recommended Megahera here. Check them out as well if you haven't.

Pretty much all of 'Time is Up' is on my fitness playlist. 'Scumbag in disguise' is too good.

I never new about Alehorn, I may have to change my plans for next Sat.

As a huge Manowar fan, and because they probably won't be coming back again soon(if at all) I'll be paying that high price of admission. I also can't wait for King Fucking Diamond finally!!!!!

Haven't posted in here in a long time but has anyone listened to the Killer Be Killed album? It kicks ass!

Lineup:

Troy Sanders(Mastodon)
Max Cavalera(Soulfly, Cavalera Conspiracy, Sepultura)
Greg Puciato(Dillinger Escape Plan)
Dave Elitch(Mars Volta)

Been playing this nonstop since I picked it up last week.

Unnatural Selection is one of the worst albums that came out last year. Havok found some way to go backwards in regards to songwriting and David's melodies are annoying with lyrics that seemed to be written in studio time constraint "Eventually... Gotta do what you gotta do"

When stacked up against Ivory Tower, Morbid Symmetry, Afterburner, and Path to nowhere, Unnatural Selection is not the direction the band should have gone. Time is Up proved nobody in the band were good songwriters anymore after the one who wrote the lyrics left, and Unnatural Selection was the shot to the head of creativity.

I have seen them live a lot since 2008, David is one of the nicest dude you can chat with, and Pete Webber is one of the best drummers in Thrash today, but if they don't find a unique identity again like they had with Burn, then the band will not last another album

Solstice is finally getting a re-release:

a lost gem for anyone into the early Malevolent Creation type death metal uggghhhhhhh.

Only Vinyl it seems. That stinks. That album is solid Malevolent Creation worship.

A friend of mine introduced me to them quite a while ago. It isn't groundbreaking, which is par for the course for "New Blood" Thrash, but I remember enjoying Time's Up quite a bit. I should give that album a few more listens.

Skeptor - United We Stand... (Together We Fall)

402507.jpg

If you are looking for something fresh, Skeptor kick major ass, really good Tech Speed/Thrash that bring about late 88-90 era. One of my favorite releases this year, for the maniacs looking for something good

You can listen to the album through Stormspell http://stormspell.bandcamp.com/album/united-we-stand-together-we-fall

still kinda baffled why the fuck you'd want to ape the insufferable long intros of thrash from this era but this is cool

this reminds me so much of Toxik - Think This right down to the weird riffs and vocals, haha

Holy shit that Kylesa/Kvelertak show turned out to be one of the best shows I witnessed in my town ever. And holy shit had it the lamest crowd ever :-( First row of metalheads checking their cells all the time instead of partying with a band that played as if it was their last show? Check.

Everything hurts.
