The Metal Thread |OT2| All Riffs, No Gifs

I like how they aren't afraid to grow and try new things, reminds me of Metallica in the 80's. Unnatural section has slower songs and more "singing" compared to screaming or shouting in every track like Time Is Up or Burn.

Been watching their live videos on YouTube, they know how to put on a good show. Pete Webber is a machine, never seems to miss a beat.
Hey Lukas! Welcome to MetalGAF. Long time no......read? As we have discussed before elsewhere, I love Havok as well as Evile and Warbringer. We definitely need more new wave thrash.

Gotta love the Arch Enemy front woman.

She's no Cristina Scabbia, but I wouldn't push her out of bed!

We definitely need more new wave thrash

Good bands, not the now regressed cesspool of uncreative noise that are Evile, Warbringer and Havok.

Sanitarius
Trallery
Exarsis
Panikk
The Force
Velosity
Harlott
Condition Critical
Gama Bomb
Hell's Domain
Tantara
Dust Bolt
Bludvera
Witchtrap
Sanity's Rage
Hexen
Amok
Exaloud
Razormaze
Shrapnel
Menace
Pripjat
Perpetrator
Exmortus
Battery

I could go on for hundreds of bands that deserve recognition over the dead weight Evile, Havok and Warbringer now bring to the table

I would have argued about Warbringer, if their latest album hadn't been a steaming pile of turds.

Exactly, They have not changed one bit since 2009, it is sad. They still shred live, each of the three bands do, but to consider them good now or creative in regards to their musical output does not cut it, they each have become stale.

Hey! Nice to see you again, man. I'm going to see Havok live next month in London. I'm so pumped.

The new Bongripper totally ... rips ... bongs? I dunno. It's Bongripper. I like it, but I got nothing.

I pre-ordered the vinyl and cd a while back, listened to it on Bandcamp today and was not impressed.

I liked the direction they were going on the Sex Tap/Snuff Film, but I've felt they've gotten lazier.

Great list there. But no one released an album as good as Hexen's Being and Nothingness!!

Maybe because they are so hard to track. Are they up to something new?

Goatwhore restores my faith in metal.

I lost contact with the band, they use to share news with my fanpage often. Now their facebook page is dead, though last I heard they are still together.

Goatwhore are great Back/death/thrash, often overlooked by most but loved by the community. You may like the new Nocturnal Witch album that released not long ago, a promising new black/thrash band Nocturnal Witch - Storm Of Violence

Their Facebook is still live and kicking, when did you loose contact? They're on Relapse records...maybe something changed on the management thing that didn't include you in the loop. It happens.

I use to speak with the band, I know the band used to send me news prior to Being and Nothingness release on my facebook thrash page. They have not updated their facebook page that I was speaking with, unless they changed it I have not heard anything from the band since then. I'm going off what I have been through so not to sound disingenuous regarding the band, I really don't know what they are up to.

thoughts on the new Wolves in the Throne Room?
I think it's amazing. Easy listening sunn meets Goblin or something. Makes my inner Randall Dunn fanboy very happy.

New Bongripper indeed rips bongs. I dunno, their track on the Conan split was fucking awesome, this is the same old same old. But not bad at all.
Sadly no trace of those bridgecable strings. New Conan is... more bridgecabely.

I still haven't listened to it yet, so my thoughts are getting to it ASAP.

I listened to most of it on my way to work, and it's cool I guess. A lot of it is so non-descript I have a hard time discerning the difference between the tracks. Feels like a soundtrack to a BBC nature documentary with David Attenborough narrating.

BURZUM's VARG VIKERNES Found Guilty Of Hate Crime In France

Heck I thought he was still in prison.

According to The Local, BURZUM mastermind Varg Vikernes (a.k.a. Count Grishnackh) has been slapped with a fine and suspended prison sentence for allegedly inciting racial hatred and glorifying war crimes.

Vikerenes, 41, who has been living in France for the past four years, and his wife were arrested in July 2013 as a preventive measure after Vikernes posted aggressive racist, xenophobic and anti-Semitic comments on Internet forums. The couple's home was searched and five guns were found, including four rifles legally purchased by Varg's wife as a member of a rifle club.

A French court Tuesday gave Vikernes a six-month suspended sentence and ordered him to pay a fine of €8,000 ($10,000).

That's an interesting description. Makes sense though, given their subject matter.

Out of all the countries for a racist, xenophobic, and generally hateful person to go to, he chose France? I'm not that knowledgeable on EU matters, but doesn't France let in more immigrants from outside the EU than any other country?

As an American I inherently have an issue with someone's words online constituting a crime, as light as his punishment is (though eliciting a suspicion/search is perfectly fine), but I still find it unbelievable that a convicted murderer is allowed to live in a household with access to five guns.

Picked up the deluxe version of Priest's Redeemer of Souls (damn I hate that title) and it's actually not as bad as I feared. The samples and early tracks they released were actually some of the crappier parts of the album and there's some good stuff in there. At the moment the tunes that surprised me are Halls of Valhalla, Sword of Damocles, Hell & Back, Cold Blooded and Secrets of the Dead. The 5 bonus tracks of the deluxe edition are nothing special, but they're not terrible. The total clunkers on the album for me are the title track and Metalizer, man, what a stupid fucking song. I do get the feeling this might be their last hurrah. Been an amazing 40 years.

I think the album is great. And I'm happy with all the tracks on the main CD. Haven't checked the bonus stuff yet. My only complaint, which I have seen come up often since the tracks began streaming during the promotion, is that the audio production is lacking. The guitars really sound muffled on here.

Favorite track is between Halls of Valhalla, Battlecry, Cold Blooded and March of the Damned.

It is an uneven production, some of the songs sound like they were recorded out in a wide, long hallway, they have a bit of echo or something to them.

Yeah, I noticed that after hearing the title track and Metalizer back to back. Metalizer is a bit dull sounding with drums and guitars. That song is terrible btw.

Midnight - No Mercy for Mayhem

New Midnight album is up for your listening pleasure, it is very good, I have not decided if I like it more than the debut but so far it is filling all the check boxes for a solid release.

Speedy, Evil, and Pure Metal. It is not coming out till next month but the whole album is available to listen on youtube now, so go check it out if you love this kind of speed assault.

thoughts on the new Wolves in the Throne Room?

I dig it. I always have a hard time assessing more ambient and noise based albums. I really love them sometimes, but I don't get in the mood as often, and they're just really hard to compare to other albums. Still, good shit.

Holy shit that Kylesa/Kvelertak show turned out to be one of the best shows I witnessed in my town ever. And holy shit had it the lamest crowd ever :-( First row of metalheads checking their cells all the time instead of partying with a band that played as if it was their last show? Check.

Everything hurts.

Sounds like a badass show, hope the band wasn't bummed out over the crowd's lack of enthusiasm. Love me some Kvelertak. Mastodon's new tour dates are supposed to be with those guys and Gojira, AND they're coming to my home town finally, so I'm all like HNNNNNNGGG.

Guys I need another band to get into. I'm very picky with my music.

I'm into progressive Death Metal/ Prog I need something intricate and abstract. II am instrumental centric listener. I want to find another band whose music I can sit on and dissect for a while and contemplate the structure of the music. Something that has atmosphere, experimentation, depth and conveys musical imagery.

My favorite bands are:

Meshuggah
Gojira
Animals as Leaders
Mastodon (Before The Hunter)
Motorpsycho
Truckfighters

Favorite Album of all time

Any suggestions?
