The Metal Thread |OT2| All Riffs, No Gifs

Yeah? How's Howards cleans these days? Dude has a great voice and I know the diabetes have effected it a bit. I havent gotten around to getting the latest one but the first album was pretty fun, I got it recently and been enjoying it. He seems back in his element.

Yeah. I love it. The singles are great, but so are the rest of the songs. Composition of tracks and how they build is a little different than the 1st album, but his voice is still terrific and the punch is hard.

Yeah, because they only get shit on any time someone so happens as to mention them in this thread. I don't care that you don't like the band, but calling it a circlejerk is a load of bullshit.
He was mocking some other dude in some other thread who called Metal OT a "circle jerk".

Mini review of the Abigail tour.

Exodus was pretty bland. I was hoping since Zetro was back there'd be some new life injected into them, but honestly it might as well have been Duke up there. Don't care for their new stuff and even the old songs sounded more like the BBB rerecording than live versions of the originals. And despite being a sold out show the crowd was kinda sparse for them. It was nice to hear Deranged though.

King Diamond was great. Played about half an hour of KD and Fate songs, then Abigail. I was really pulling for The Trial but no such luck, maybe next time. The place definitely filled up but the crowd was still kinda subdued. Aside, why do people go all the way to the front and then just look bored the whole time. I get that people enjoy things in different ways, but that long hair isn't for keeping in a ponytail 24/7, it's for headbanging. Nod ya head at least, damn. Also, I find as I get older I vastly prefer smaller shows over big ones, they tend to be less shitty in almost every way. Still, King was worth it.

That's a shame to hear about Exodus, I saw them in a small venue in Manchester earlier this year and they were awesome, much better than the last few times I've seen them, maybe because it was their own crowd it helped, the circle pits and stage diving was right from the opening riff to the last.

I agree with you on preferring smaller gigs these days, you tend to get a crowd that'd more into it, I really wish the King would bring the tour to the UK but he rarely plays over here, I've only ever seen him once and it was fantastic.

Was jamming Massacre's From Beyond while cooking breakfast which became playing Super Meat Boy to Death's Scream Bloody Gore. Not sure why I didn't care for the Death vocalist before, well this album sounds pretty solid anyway. Been listening to a lot of death metal these last couple weeks so maybe I'm more acclimated.

The vocals on later Death albums are not great in my opinion. Very shrieky and high pitched. One of the reasons I think The Sound of Perseverance is easily their worst album.

My Horrendous worship.
Their latest album "Anareta" fucking kills. Vinyl LP will come in 2016. Definitely one of my top albums for 2015. Hail to the riffs.
Horrendous - Sum of All Failures

Which is what I remember most. I typically put my playlist on random and I'd skip a lot of their songs because of the vocals. Lately I've been trying to get back to album play instead to get to know these bands I'd heard of but never listened to.

KD played a lot of Fate songs? Whaaaaat

Why won't he come over here :(

Nah it was only two, Melissa and Come to the Sabbath, the other 5 or so were King Diamond songs.

Even though I like the earlier stuff more, there's some real bangers on Sound of Perseverance, Flesh and the Power It Holds is a steamroller.

Weird request, but I have a devout Catholic family member who wanted to try listening to some harder metal. Are there any metal bands with good religious music? Obviously there's a lot of great metal that isn't sacrilegious for a Catholic, but I don't know about any decent stuff that is pro-religious. Looking for black/death/doom metal, since he already is decently familiar with NWOBHM. Thanks for any help.

Deliverance is a Christian thrash band. I think their pretty good given that their Christian...lol A better way to say it is that I was shocked a Christian band could thrash.

Paramaecium is pretty solid death/doom that's Christian. Kalmah is apparently Christian too, though you wouldn't know it unless you read the lyrics.

I highly recommend III, his previous full length. It's very good.

I will say though, A God Made of Flesh and Consciousness from this EP might be the best song he has ever made. It's amazing.

I've listened to III a couple of times now and it's simply amazing! Truly a musical journey!

Demon Hunter is pretty good.

Place of Skulls is a doom band that Pentagram's old guitarist started after he found Jesus and they've written some explicitly Christian stuff. They're okay.

Opinions on the new Megadeth song "The threat is real"? It's okay imo, not bad but if Fatal Illusion and this track are anything to go by Dystopia will be slightly better than anything they've put out in the past 15 years but still following the same trend, which isn't awful and is certainly better than super collider but, bland at this point. Kiko and Chris havent brought anything unique to Megadeth which is unfortunate considering they're both great players.
Will reserve final judgments until the album drops though.

I quite liked it, i'll reserve judgement until i've heard the album but it already sounds better than whatever that last album was called, I suppose it's never going to live up to the classics but what I do find odd is they've just done a European tour yet nothing new is out at the moment which is why I didn't bother going as it was the same setlist i've seen the last couple of times (mostly).

The thing that will probably happen is i'll listen to the new album for a bit and then after that when I want to listen to some Megadeth i'll stick on Killing is my Business or Peace Sells.

New Galneryus teaser for their new album, Under the Force of Courage. Still one of my favorite Japanese Metal bands, and one of my favorite Power Metal bands in general. I don't know how it could live up to their last album.

That confused me too, why do a "Dystopia World Tour" and then play nothing from Dystopia.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try listening through them and choosing the better ones.

Oooh, I'm liking Vetelgyus.

I got the new Sunn O))) LP today thanks to a limited Record Store Day release (it doesn't officially come out until next week). It's probably the most straightforward and maybe heaviest thing they've ever done – at least since Black One. I'm really digging it.

Nuclear blast is having a black friday sale on their site. Nothing terribly old, but most cds are 6ish for digipacks, and lower than amazon.

Totally forgot I had the Vinyl of this hanging around so I thought I'd give it a spin!

Arjen Anthony Lucassen's "Lost In The New Real" (2012)

cover-300x300.jpg

It's not technically a metal album, but there's a few examples of the genre on there, as well as a really fuckin' diverse list of songs that cover a bunch of different genres. from 60's pop, hard rock, heavy metal prog metal and even a jaunty folkish tune thrown in for good measure too. Have to say it's easily one of the best albums I've heard in years. It's a great concept album that looks into the potential issues of a human civilization that's lived well past it's sell-by-date. Overpopulation, population control, virtual addiction, people living too long, and a bunch of other interesting subjects. It never lets up throughout. The final track "Lost In The New Real" is easily one of the best Prog songs I've ever heard as well, it's just structured so well, and it's a great bookend to the entire thing. It's just a really bloody fun album overall. Shits all over Arjen's latest Ayreon effort. Now that was a dissapointment! The narration between tracks by Rutger Hauer is chilling as well. Well worth a listen in my opinion!

Sold me at Rutger Hauer. Will give this a shot when I'm back at work.

Honestly I got really bored of Arjen's stuff somewhere after The Human Equation. I think that album is his best, but then after that pretty much everything seemed to sound like something he'd put out before. None of it is really bad or anything.

Have to agree. Arjen's stuff has been on a steady decline in my opinion as well. The latest Ayreon album, "The Theory of Everything" is a classic example of a bloated album that drags on way too long. Some good stuff on there but it's pretty sparse.

But "Lost In The New Real" still gives me hope he can put out really good stuff. Fucking love it. I desperately want him to create more experimental stuff like this.

Hail Of Bullets part ways with singer Martin van Drunen

We are sorry to announce that Martin van Drunen is no longer part of Hail Of Bullets. On a personal level it’s no longer possible for us to continue the cooperation with Martin.
Unfortunately this means we have to cancel all upcoming shows until further notice.
This does not mean the end of Hail Of Bullets. The main reason for starting this band 8 years ago was our mutual love for real Death Metal and to have fun playing our favourite kind of music and we did not want to lose this ‘fun part’. We acknowledge the fact that Martin’s a good singer with a distinctive voice but he’s not the only great singer on this planet.
We wish him all the best in his future career. To be continued…
Stephan, Paul, Ed, Theo

Well, that sucks. If I was going to MDF, they would have been one of the bands I was looking forward to seeing. Glad that didn't happen, I guess?

That fucking sucks. van Drunen is one of the best death metal vocalists. His voice is just so dynamic and unique. Hopefully they can get someone at least half as good.

arrggghhh. Martin Van Drunen IS Hail of Bullets. Much like how he was Pestilence and Asphyx. Martin Van Drunen is THE death metal vocalist god. Oh well, I felt Hail of Bullets were on their way out anyways.
