The Odyssey (2026) Trailer

Saying that she is not fit for the role of beauty enought to start a war or just call her a mid/ok doesn't equate to her being ugly(or people being homosexual, please stop this stupidity).

Again, this is just low effort dumb twitter type of argument. Its just like asking people what they prefer, donuts or waffles. Someone answers donut and you say "why do you hate waffles?"
Relax, don't take it so serious, it was just a silly post to give her a compliment.

What an affront to western civilization, hope this ends Nolan's career.

Lupita is also a 2/10 on a good day. Scared 1000 ships away. Zendaya a solid 3 if you are into masculine features

2/10 is far too harsh IMHO, now a 7 or 8 sure.

Either way, she does not fit the role of Helen of Troy. That's like casting Sidney Sweeney to play Oprah Winfrey in a documentary, its just wrong and disrespectful.

I think Lupita is attractive but Zendaya? She was incredible bland since day one, her acting skills are also very questionable. Pedro Pascal is WAY overused but he is a much better actor at least.

I must be super gay then because i would probably not turn my head for her in the streets...

She also has negative tits.

Fatima kline on the other hand, i would firmly stay beyind her.

Beauty is for sure subjective and varies by culture but maybe I am spoiled living near Miami and spending a lot of time at South Beach because I am right there with you if I passed her on the streets down here she wouldn't get a second look from me

I'm spoiled living near Lauderdale ( :messenger_grinning_smiling: ) and I'm right there with you

I'd see her on the streets and think "More attractive than usual garden variety Haitian."

Man, what it could have been if the powers that be actually tried or gave a shit :

(not diverse enough I suppose though, eh?)

The more I look at it, the atrocious casting on Nolan's part looks all the more ridiculous now.

This is why we can't have nice things

To be fair, there is NOTHING stopping a bunch of greeks from raising the money and making a more authentic Odyssey, just like they did back in the 60s or whenever with that greek produced Odyssey TV series.

At this point the only thing I'm excited for is a bunch of you coming back from seeing it and giving the ol' "Guys, it actually wasn't that bad".

Chuck, c'mon man...

Jason, like they say in Greece, "from your mouth to God's ears" which means that you're in agreement when someone says something and you wish it to be true.

Having said that :
That, not only wouldn't be easy but actually impossible.
The big Epics REALLY NEED a BIG budget - getting funding is one thing but trying to base the whole project together is another.

-Actors? sure, that would actually be the easiest part.

- location scouting/shooting also easy

- Armors/weapons/props etc...they could easily have Dimitris Katsikis as a consultant so I suppose that would also be kind of easy :

...but then, you fall into the usual problem : Special FX
These, are usually what make or break a project - especially one that involves Gods, monsters, weather effects etc etc - who would they have to turn to ? an American company ? with what budget man from the moment that these special effects would actually be a good 70% of the whole project's budget ?

Unfortunately, these kind of projects need Hollywood money - and again, The only person that would do such a project justice is crazy ol' Mel (Gibson).

Again, I really wish a project such as this would materialize but...yeah

Cheers

I don't agree with Lupita being cast as Helen or Achilles or whatever but I'd take her everyday and twice on Sunday over Zendaya Coleman. I bet Elliot wishes his face was as masculine as Zendaya's. I'd give Lupita a solid 6 elliot a 4 and Ms. (Zendaya) Coleman a 3

According to this there are at least 17 Greek BILLIONAIRES.

So its just a matter of willpower, really. Ultimately most folks, and certainly the right (wealthy) folks, just don't care.

And I think, ultimately, it's more important to put good renditions (and good translations for the non greeks) of these classics in more hands than it is to try to really capture it in a single film. It's the loss of the "classical liberal education" with common touchstones, mostly based on english, greek, and roman/italian thought and writings, but also French, spanish and german with a smattering of east european/russian, that welded all of western civilization into a monolithic culture able to forge a society capable of dominating most of the globe in almost every aspect, be it militarily, economically, politically, or just through entertainment. While there were advantages of geography and just plain good luck at times that assisted this supremacy, it's also the superior thought arising from these greek fundamentals that can be attributed, I think, to why the West was so ascendant. And the upcoming fall, perhaps, can be at least partially linked to abandoning of those ideals and incursion of divisive and destructive ideas from elsewhere.

What lol

You don't think there will be a handful in this very thread that will have enjoyed it? It happens all the time :messenger_grinning_smiling:

Shit, I want to see it out of sheer morbid curiousity and fascination. Hell, I could walk out thinking Polyphemus is some of the best practical effects I've ever seen. doubtful

This one's tricky…
Morbid curiosity is exactly why I'll end up watching it, but I'm definitely not giving Nolan my ticket money, this is the kind of movie I'll catch on a streaming platform and leave it at that.

Then again, there's basically zero chance of it being good or even enjoyable, considering how much it seems to deviate from and outright butcher Archaic Hellenic culture. A lot of us are probably going to nope out the moment the bullshit starts showing up, and judging from what little we've already seen, there's going to be plenty of it...

On top of that, I've never liked Nolan as a director in the first place. I think he's massively overrated - the kind of filmmaker whose movies get treated like profound masterpieces by mainstream audiences when, honestly, they really aren't.

I won't even say "we'll have to see," because based on the footage and details revealed so far, I genuinely can't find a single redeeming quality in this project.

I'm gonna watch it in IMAX, as I think there will be enough technical aspects to merit a viewing. I bet this will be the type of film experience that gets really robbed on a small screen. Nolan works best (for me) when he is unravelling a puzzle on screen with a lot of moving parts, not sure he can beat the Odyssey into that mold.

I just hope he has clear dialogue, though if "wait till my daddy gets home" is the level the script takes, not sure it will matter much.

It will have a lot of modern dialogue, as well as every cast member mandated to use an American accent, even if they're not from the US.

The reason for this is because Nolan's vison heavily mirrors the philosophy of Emily Wilson and her translation.

For me personally, the modern spin completely takes me out of the film. Unfortunately it will be the first Nolan film that I'll be skipping at the cinema.

If only Mel Gibson was interested in Greek Mythology, maybe this would be a thing.
