Developed by: Neversoft
Published by: Satan
Released: September 1st (US); September 11 (Lesser Countries)

Guitar Hero is the second video game to simulate the full band experience. However, unlike the conservative, coffee drinking stiffs making Rock Band, Neversoft have unleashed the full power of your plastic instrument collection by allow any combination of up to 4 instruments to play together. No more will people be forced to play bass, drums or vocals. In Guitar Hero 5, you can be a guitar hero even if your stupid friends or family refuse to play lesser instruments.

On 08/08/09 Neversoft announced partial tracklist exportability, enabling Guitar Hero 5 owners to potentially play their favourite songs from previous GH titles with "World" or "Smash" in the title. This groundbreaking innovation not only exports the songs for use in Guitar Hero 5, but also Band Hero, the incredible new action rhythm game from your friends at Activision, coming November 2009. Both games are also compatible with Guitar Hero: World Tour Downloadable Content, except for the 6 best songs. Neversoft are committed to creating the biggest pseudo music platform available!

The 80s selection is a bit thin. I'd love to play/sing I Ran, Heat of the Moment, Holy Diver, 18 & Life etc. Started with GHII on 360, so never got to play Rocks the 80s.

so will guitar hero 5 have new instruments or what?

There is a new guitar ... an improved version of the one from GHWT. Haven't heard anything about the drums. But they looked the same in the vids at e3.

So is there a consensus on which instruments are better? I still haven't upgraded from GH2/3.

Isn't it true now that the instruments work with both RB and GH anyway?

So I guess this is the thread for Smash Hits, Van Halen, GH 5 and Band Hero? DJ Hero deserves it's own thread (which it has allready).

GH: Van Halen

here's some footage I've never seen before:

Band Hero: I can't remember where I read it but someone posted in a thread it'll be like Lego Rock Band (top 40 hits, for the family) and will have artists like The Turtles, Janet Jackson, Marvin Gaye and Culture Club.

Pretty much all the instruments work for both games.

One thing to note is that the quality of plastic instruments nowadays from all manufacturers are weaker compared to what they were a few years ago. You got issues ranging from poor soldier connections (GHWT Drums), faulty strumbars (RB and GHWT), pad bubbling (RB2), and poor drum pedals (RB/GH).

Did I miss something here or are you just hoping?
Neversoft mentioned them on a cock tease list of bands that "may" be in GH5, before the list came out. Either it's a sign, or Neversoft are going out of their way to piss of the two or three people that want the band in a rhythm game.

This is the first Guitar Hero I am not buying (Smash Hits). I will not be buying 5 either. I will not be buying Van Halen either. I will not be buying Band Hero either. I am burnt out. 'Twas a good run. DJ Hero FTW!

Well, I'm a little worried about a band like Pavement getting songs into GH exclusively, that's why I asked. I'm already a little miffed about Vampire Weekend.

The only reason I say that is because I'm balls deep into Rock Band and I'd hate to have to split my catalog between two rhythm games because of a few bad ass bands (Pavement definitely qualifies).
