So my cd32 is tricked out. It's got an sx-1 attached with 4mb memory, along with a cf->ide kit installed and a 4gb flashcard. I have a floppy drive emulator attached that is daisy chained to a second normal floppy drive. I have a a4000->ps/2 keyboard converter, and an Amiga mouse ->ps/2 converter.

I also have basically the same setup in my normal a1200, plus an indivision scan doubler/flicker fixer for a vga port.

Got my entire collection backed up three ways - once installed using whdload on each Amiga, once as adf dumps of my floppies on individual usb drives (I use flat credit card shaped usb drives with labels printed on them that mimics the appropriate floppy disk label), and once as self booting Amiga cd32 ports.

I got a A1200 with CF-card and ACA1232 turbo card but after way too many freezes I went back to floppies again, they never fail I googled a bit and apparently it had to do with some motherboards being unable to cope with the new turbo cards, you have to do a "timing fix" as they say and remove/add circuit components and I just chickened out
Edit: googled some more and found the name of the turbo card, ACA1232. Apparently the older turbo cards works, it's just the new ACA-cards that are problematic. Hmm, maybe I should try get an old card...

I remember years ago someone was attempting to put an Amiga onto a PCI card so you could just run it straight off as hardware base. But like alot of things I don't think it saw the light of day.

Rise of the dragon has 10 floppy disks. That's going to be a pain in the ass to play.

Haven't tried if they work. The same box had more PC games that I also want to play again.

Someone questioned if old commodore games even works today, well this C128 can not only run 5.25" floppy discs perfectly but cassette tapes too, I actually don't think even one single game has failed on me yet. I have 2 C64's and an A500 too tucked away in the mess in the garage and last time I checked they worked perfectly too. Quite impressive build quality in my opinion.

So many of my floppies - Amiga or otherwise - are failing on me, it's sad. Luckily, the gotek floppy emulator works like a charm, just like actual floppies. I prefer using the floppy emulator to whdload, even if it means I have to swap floppies mid game.

This thread is like time travel for me. How I miss the awesome times I had with my Amiga

I had an A500 with the memory expansion and the 49 mb harddrive with ram expansion and accelerator card, I think it was called GVC something.

When the Amiga dominance was already over, I got a 1200 that had an internal HDD and a IDE ribbon cable sticking out of the left side that I used to connect a CD drive. A friend had modded this Amiga, and he had also modded another 1200 into a tower case, man that was awesome.

Some time later I got an A2000 with coprocessor card for a few Euro, that thing felt crazy fast.

I would like to get an A500 again. Is there a way to whiten an Amiga that has gone almost totally yellow? I could get one for cheap but it looks ugly as it is now, all yellow

I also grew up on the Canary Islands, and I too bought copies in a computer store and at the Sunday market (el rastro), like the guy from the Canaries who posted five years ago in this thread. (are you still around?)

Definitely the times with my Amiga were among the happiest in my life, but they are also to blame for my failure to concentrate on my school studies.

If you set it to disk 0 at boot, it goes to a menu where you can map disk images to specific numbered slots.

I checked prices online so it doesn't sound too bad an investment. Sounds amazing. Will get on this as soon as the rest of the system works (i.e. has colours)

I kind of touched on it in my last post, but there are C64 equivalents. SD2IEC is an SD card reader, but you can get an actual floppy emulator for the C64 called the 1541-II Ultimate that will emulate all sorts of advanced functions of the C64 disk drive.

They also have similar drives for the MSX, Sharp X68k, FM Towns, etc.

I've been thinking about the right place to spend my precious virgin GAF post for a while now and this thread here is clearly it.

Just going throught a few random pages has mentions of so many dear memories that I've lost count. The A500 in our household was a place of joy and ruthless competition.

Now I freely admit that my older brothers, who were solely responsible for any and all acquisitions on the subject, were filthy pirates. If more than 5% of our game collection was obtained legally, I would be surprised, but I guess that was the way it was destined to be. Copying stuff was just too easy.

If I had to name just one favourite for the system, it would have to be Turrican II. Some of that music is so deep in my being, I was able to immediately recognize the origins of a few trance songs that were based on "freedom."

But the sheer number of games that I can still remember quite vividly is a bit staggering, really. Speedball 1 & 2, Dynamite Ducks, Golden Axe, It came from the Desert 1 & 2, Moonstone, Syndicate, Shadow of the Beast, Lemmings, Rick Dangerous 1 & 2, Pinball Dreams, Cannon Fodder, Populous 1 & 2, Mega-Lo-Mania, Xenon II, Dogs of War, Elite II, Archon 1& 2, IK+, Railroad Tycoon, North and South, Space Crusade, Stunt Car Racer, Lotus Esprit Turbo 2, Laser Squad, Warlords, Battletech: Crescent Hawk's Inception, Star Control, Operation Wolf, Persian Gulf Inferno, Mech Force (THE battletech game, really)...

There are a few games that I remember by the visuals, but I've no names to attach to them.. might be posted here as images, but I can't see them due to the workplaces blocks. I think Hunter and Gods might be two of them.

Although I lost my gaming virginity to the Sinclair Spectrum, It was the Amiga 500 that was my first gaming love. That machine and the amazing games I played on it will forever be my most cherished gaming memories.

I am lucky enough to know some of the guys from Bullfrog, and some ex-Commodore peeps and I love to hear the stories those guys have about the days when the Amiga was THE place to game.

I'm so jealous of the guys here that have a working Amiga and can still play the likes of Gods, Speedball 2, Sensible Soccer, and Populous 2 in all their original glory.

It sounds pretty much like sd2iec, you have a device which you can use DLOAD/DSAVE commands etc but instead of 5.25" floppy discs you use modern storage media. But you need the games to be in d64/t64 file format, which they only are if you already have the games backupped, so it's like I'm missing a few steps here :/ the original game discs are just a stream of data from my understanding, you aren't loading them as a single file.
However, and thank you for this, by googling on 1541 ultimate I just found another device which get your original C64 (and Amiga) floppy discs into proper files used in the 1541 ultimate and other similar modern devices! Not sure if I get into banning territory by talking more about it though...

Your LCD may not have full SCART. Some have a simplified version (only 10 wires connected).

You definitely need to look into the 1541 ultimate, it's much more what you're looking for.

She said they didn't run a gaming helpline but because I was so upset, she actually took my number and a developer rang me back and gave me tips.

Amiga is the only system I kind of regret having sold. I had Amiga 500 with 1084 monitor, tv tuner, memory expansion and a couple of external disk drives. But I recall having problems with disks even then and now 20 years later I do have doubts. And the EU prices in Ebay are not that tempting. Perhaps I just settle for books and memorabilia.

There has been a bunch of "remasters" of spiritual successors during the last years. In 2013 several Amiga game rights were sold, but I'm not sure if there're any releases yet from that deal. The news bit gives an impression that it may be mainly ipad games. If only someone did a good Speedball II sequel. From what I've understood the Speedball II HD is quite bad.

The music from Shadow of The Beast still haunts me to this day.

Tim Wright has released a short audio sampler from the upcoming Shadow of The Beast CD that's part of the Sam Dyer's Kickstarter book. Based on everything I've heard so far from this Kickstarter campaign, I'm so glad I backed this. The CD is icing on the cake.

You can get Speedball 2 Evolution on the Vita. It's not bad tbh. Even has the Amiga disk drive loading sounds between matches.

Yes, Evolution is quite a decent version. Apart from that, though, I've been terribly disappointed by many remakes. Superfrog was horrible, but it was actually quite accurate, I just didn't realize back then how bad it was. Flashback was also completely ridiculous... I'm kind of interested in Alien Breed and Another World but I'm not certain if I'll actually like them now.

At least I hear Chaos Engine is pretty accurate. And Sensible Soccer was good if I recall.

Gravity Force was kind of dull, but two Swedish guys made an unofficial (if accepted by the developers) Gravity Force 2 which was awesome. It had TONS of levels, tons of options and a very quick, solid feel. It was freeware, IIRC, so you should check it out. It's only two player though, no AI.

However I wonder have you ever heard about 3 polish games on Amiga - probably not - (imho very funny/crazy) like Franko: Crazy Revenge, Doman and Street Rod.

I got a new cable (23->SCART) that works, so the old one might just be broken. I can now play in colour which is a must in many.

I made a stupid mistake because I was so hyped about the Amiga and ended up ordering two USB joysticks for the damn machine. I did not read the description of the product clearly so my bad. The title even says USB and I didn't notice that. I am so dumb when excited.
However, all is not lost as I can use those with an emulator to play games.

Street Rod was popular in Finland at least. The others I haven't heard about.
