The Official Fight Night Round 4 thread of Analog sticks

The stamina slider should be a patch for the game, not an offline slider option.

The current online setup--mixed with buttons--is a recipe for complete failure.

Well, bow to what the fans want. Just let people know online.

Also...fuck exclusive downloadable content. This gen sucks sometimes.

So, game prompted me to make a profile out of the blue this morning even though I had already made one, had to do the tutorial again too. Thought it was odd, but I found everything was the same when I started the game... 'cept for the Cedar Point advertisements during the loading screens and in between rounds.

The hell is this?

The fuck what.

Just had an online game with some random dude (had a ~55-37 score, and I was 4-0). I was Ali and he was Frazier, and the bout was pretty insane. He made ridiculous amounts of jabs to my head and to the body, while I tried to do a clean round. He managed to knock me down twice, but then I started countering him more, and I managed to turn it around to 2 knockdowns as well. After that, he started just spinning his body uncontrollably with the left stick, thus opening up counters every damn time, and thus knocking me down. As expected, I was knocked out, but lo and behold, when the scorecard came up, I got the "The Comeback Kid" trophy, and apparently I won the damn match too. :lol Anyone had something similar happen to them?

Wanted to ask you guys that are skilled online, what exactly can you unlock by performing well online? I got an "win 5 matches in a row online" unlock, which I believe was Love Hate gloves, but I'm not too sure since I got it combined with another unlock ("win 5 ranked games"). Does anyone know if there's other stuff to unlock online, like 10 wins in a row etc.?

Just bought the game, FN3 is one of my favorite experiences of this generation.
I was trying to create a boxer (i have no PS3 Camera...) but save for the 87 template faces i did not find an editor to change facial features like nose height, chin size and so on...
Please tell me it's still in there, if they removed that part it's pretty much a FAIL. :/

After 60 or so bouts on WC mode, I've only encountered maybe 5 "boxers" total. Everyone else spams something...constant haymakers, feathering the block, spamming uppers and body hooks, or spamming the sway. Most of that shit is easy to counter, but the vast majority of online fighters have clearly never witnessed the actual sport, lol.

Strategic matches are just magnificent, though. If they nerfed the headbutt, this game would be nearly perfect.

It´s there. Look in the editor for the menu point "advanced sliders". If you login to EA Sports World, you can upload your pictures there and link it to your PSN profile - you don´t need a USB Cam/PSEye at all for this feature.

Holy crap. Title unification fight against Kermit Cintron - I won the first 7 rounds but then his counter punching started to take a toll on me. For the first half of the fight he was throwing mostly single shots, but once the damage started to pile up he was looking to pin me in the corner and throw combos.

10th round sees me rock him with a haymaker uppercut and put him down with a straight, so I figure it's going my way. WRONG. 11th comes up and I get dropped TWICE from counterpunches, BARELY getting to my feet on the last one. I dance away from him for the final fifteen seconds of the round.

Final round starts, I'm still dancing around throwing an occasional hook to the body. After two and a half minutes of this I notice that he's just coming forward nonstop with his guard down, so I throw a haymaker hook to keep him honest. He, of course, dodges it and puts me right down with a hook.

I have never once gotten up from a third knockdown in FNR4 at this point, so I start to weep softly. The meter is velcroed to the left side for the first 3 seconds as usual, then I gradually get it to creep up, using the lightest possible touch. Somehow I manage to stop the lurch to the right side, but I overcompensate and fall back into yellow on the left side, then slowly nudge it up...slowly.....slowly...UP AT THE COUNT OF NINE. At this point there is ONE SECOND left in the round.

114-110 114-110 113-111 unanimous decision victory. Unbelievable.

Totally agreed.

Here's my problem with online. If you're half-way decent at the game you'll have a pretty good record (I'm 22-3) mostly because those "spammers" are really easy to counter. But once you have a decent record, players with lesser win records won't fight you. And the really good fighters won't bother because most of them are spammers who only fight total noobs.

It takes me forever to find a fighter who will actually take me on! And I'm not even that good! I like that both players have to agree to the matchup, but WTF with people with good records not taking on someone else with a good record?! Just shows how many people there are with "winning" records who don't know how to box. It's gotten bad enough that I actually am leaving this game alone for a while to let all the spammers die down and get bored and leave the real boxers to the game.

There needs to be a greater stamina penalty for spam blocking and spam leaning. All that happens now is that it slows your recovery time. And the block meter is way too strong. WC mode should be like a "simulation mode" where you can't just keep blocking and leaning without totally exhausting yourself.

I dedicated my FNR4 session this weekend to Arturo Gatti, whom I hadn't even used yet.

I K.O.'d a much bigger and tougher Jake Lamotta.

R.I.P.

A few solutions to WC mode that I just thought of:

1) As said above, there should be stamina penalties to spam blocking/leaning.

2) Also as said above, a more realistic block meter that diminishes more quickly according to the strength of the punches.

3) A more reliable ranking system that does a better job of encouraging fighters to take on fighters of their own relative rank. Better point/ranking bonuses? More title belts in circulation?

4) And, of course, adjusting the stamina hit you take for spamming punches. There'd be less constant action and much more selective "boxing" sessions like in a real fight.

These changes would make WC mode much more sim-like and even things out considerably. As well as cut down on the amount of senseless spamming that happens (both defensively and offensively). Seems easy enough to do. We'll see if it happens or not.

Awesome. Gatti was always sort of an old time clownish boxer to me. Always entertaining. There's a real shortage of personality in boxing now, he'll be missed.

So I picked up the game, and I'm curious to know if the difficulty settings have an impact on Legacy Mode, or if it has it's own "difficulty"?

conman said:
Yes, there is a separate difficulty setting for Legacy mode that can be adjusted.

Yep, found out last night.

I was seriously getting upset after doing 3 fights the previous night and losing by decision. I kept wondering why it was so much harder in Legacy.

What happened was I was fighting on GOAT in Fight Now, and then started my Legacy, which was on GOAT. When I changed back to Pro in the main settings, it didn't change in Legacy, so it was still on GOAT.

Enjoying it much more now after setting up a nice 5 win streak on Pro. I'll tackle higher difficulties when I'm ready, lol. GOAT is too hard for me as it is right now.

Has anyone ever KO'd someone on their first knockdown in the early early rounds?

I'm starting to think it's not possible.

Alright, GAF, you are my last hope with this game. The official EA FNR4 forum has other people complaining about this same problem, but no EA response yet.

I picked up FNR4 on PS3 mainly to play against my bro online. PRoblem is, we can't connect online! :(

Yes, we know how to set-up a private match (go to Player Hub > Address Book > Select Friend to Invite etc) and we are both using a wired connection. Well, after the host sets up the match and the friend accepts the invite, the game just hangs on the boxing-ring-screen and never connects us. Both of us have tried being the host and (after that failed) setting up an Unranked Match with special settings for the other to seach for.

Still no luck. We can both play against randoms online with no problem though.

Any advice?

Did it yesterday, it was awesome. Offline though.

Easy. In the settings, cut the match down to a very short single round and go for a decision win. It might take you a few tries, but since it's a short (1 minute) round, it's no big deal to keep going for it.

I know people want the buttons, but why cave in in september and change the stance that "That's the way it plays" now.

Because it's stupid to have removed a control scheme, and because if you alienate your potential clients, you'd better have a better reason than "that's the way it plays now."

The problem wasn't spamming with button-specific controls, the problem was with the way the game treats fatigue and stamina. In the real world, boxers get tired if they throw a ton of punches every round. They get tired, too, if they have to spend the entire round absorbing blows, or ducking them, or just moving around the ring. And, of course, once they're tired, they're not able to throw with the efficiency, frequency, or power they had originally.

If there was a true-to-life consequence for any of this in Fight Night, the debate over whether or not EA should have included button-based controls would be a non-issue.

I'm sure there are very few people who were actually "alienated" by the lack of button support (most of them are probably in this thread). The vast majority of the people who wanted to buy the game have already bought it.

It's been said before, but this is a really bad idea, since it will cut into the total number of possible online opponents. Since they're not adding button support until September, those numbers will already have tapered off a bunch since the game's launch. Just seems like a bad idea, even if you're one of the handful of people who wants button support. It will kill the online numbers.

This really sounds like something the developers of the game took a respectably firm stance on, and they've now been pressured by EA's higher ups to patch this in. Dumb.

It's dumb that people are defending EA, when the company has a history of paring down features and modes from its sports games. Not once have I heard anyone claim this was a good thing anywhere else but in Fight Night.

Anyway, the noble stand has come to an end, and it's good to see EA rectifying its mistake.

Probably because this is the one sports game they do very, very well! :D

I don't thi.k it was a mistake. The sticks are far superior to buttons when it comes to conveying the feel of the game. I think they did the right thing from the start, and adding in button control is a mistake.

This isn't like LAIR, the game is completely playable to anyone with 5 minutes on their hands.

QFT FN with buttons is like wii sports on a cube controller, easier? Maybe, less fun/challenging? Yup

That rectification is going to cause even more problems. The online audience base will be split into two. What are they going to do, have two different version of every championship belt, one for analog and one for buttons? "The Analog Heavyweight Champion"?

It's gonna be silly.

Alright, got back a bit into the online portion of the game, damn I suck :/. Though got all the online trophies except the world champ belts. Now my question is, can someone explain how the World Championship mode works? Is it simply ranked matches, but connected to a leaderboard, or...? What does it take to earn the belt?

I'm excellent at the game and spent hours trying to beat Ali w/ Tyson mostly then Frazier then Liston, Forman, Lewis, (all amounted to epic failure)

Mirror matches Tyson vs Tyson, Ali Vs Ali.....
You end up knocking your clone out by the 3rd rd....

I have played this game so much that I have got good enough to KO every heavyweight with my middleweight boxer within 3 rounds on G.O.A.T :lol

I hope they give us a patch which adds to the difficulty because at the moment I am finding it a bit too easy.

I don't have access to my PS3 atm, but I figured I'd ask here; is there any option to actually game with someone on your friends list? All I can remember is Quick Matching, where it pits you against randoms, and Create Session, but I can't for the life of me recall an invitation option anywhere.

I only own it on the 360 sorry :(

Downloading the new DLC at the moment! Cannot wait to try it all out :D

Wait, you have to change the difficulty setting in the career mode separately? I upped it in the main menu after winning too easily.

I totally must've missed that option in the career mode (which has a pretty confusing menu navigation, imo).

Aside from that, love the game. Some animations still look a bit stiff, but the interaction (punches hitting the guard, gliding off, whiffing air, leaning on and into each other...) between the two models on the screen is pretty much unparalleled in gaming, imo.

What version do you have? I'd probably be up for some FNR4 games on the PS3, if you'd like that is.

PS3 version, but I want to sink my teeth into the career mode before I go online first. :D

When is the PS3 patch out? It has more sliders, which I'm excited for. I love this game.

From http://blog.fightnight.easports.com/

What does this mean for PS3 gamers?

We have determined that it would be optimal for PS3 users to not encounter this issue, so we will be combining this first update with our scheduled second update slated for early September. We understand that means that the issues some users are experiencing that we planned to have fixed with the first update will still be present, though the fixes with this first update along with the fix with this new issue and improvements with the second update will be available at that time.

My English isn't great, but from what I can gather, the DLC will most likely hit the store today, but the true patch (that 360 owners already have) will come bundled with the second patch in September... or?
