Yeah. Pipe Goombas.
Fuck that. I want love handles and bitch tits of platforming goodness all over my body.

TheFreshPrince said:Anyone know why they made the decision to go with 'floaty' momentum-y Mario? I am loving the game, but why not stick with more precise jumping? I'm really not a fan of Mario sliding 10 feet after every jump. Not sure what the momentum stuff does for the game, except make it feel less precise.

Somehow we got on the topic of the new playable Toads in NSMB Wii, and how I wondered if they ever had names. He said that from what he'd been told, they did have nicknames amongst the NSMB Wii development team, but that they weren't official. I retorted that from what I'd been told, Mario was originally called Jumpman, and that the Mario name was at first just a nickname based on the character's resemblance to a janitor that worked at Nintendo. This meant that in the Mario-verse, nicknames can lead to big things.
Of course, I asked what the nicknames were. He told me to turn the camera off. Then, with an extremely serious face, he whispered in my ear, "The yellow one is called Ala-Gold, and the blue one is named Bucken-Berry."
Now, I don't know if this guy knows what he's talking about or not, but I don't care. From now on, the yellow Toad is Ala-Gold, and the blue Toad is Bucken-Berry. Case closed.

This time it's not Bowser who kidnaps Peach. There's a conspiracy: The toads (except for those two playable ones) co-operated with Andross (from the Starfox universe). The entire time you are made to believe that you will have to defeat Bowser. In the end it becomes evident that he was only a tool used by Andross and then you will have an Andross battle (just the same as in SF64 and Adventures).

Sixfortyfive said:This game isn't really that easy as far as Mario goes. I remember thinking that a few of the later levels in world 1 were pretty serious for world 1 status.
I think this is another case of people not realizing that these games seem easy only because of years of experience with the 2D Mario formula. I played SMW from start to finish for the first time at about the same time I played NSMB DS. The latter gets ragged on for its lack of difficulty when I thought the former was by far the more insultingly easy game.

More than that, I doubt the average guys who hack SMW can do much in the programming way of the Wii. They can make completely custom bosses in hacks, that's insane.dark10x said:I suppose it's unlikely a Wii editor will result in the same quality of work as it requires you to mod your Wii to play the game in the first place.

Lunar Magic is one of the greatest things to happen to Mario in the last ten years or so. Some of the user levels are just insanely good and definitely on par with work Nintendo has done in the past (for the top few).

The world 7 fortress was made of gold coin blocks. If you were quick, you could grab around 10 lives before dying and getting yet another opportunity to do it again. A great way to build inventory for the last world.Jocchan said:I'm pretty sure you could farm lives in SMB3 as well, as long as you didn't finish the level.
How the hell? I know pirates got it a little earlier than release, but not so much earlier I'd expect something this far along.EmCeeGramr said:Oh my. A very early rough level editor has been released.

You could fly through some levels with ease using the bunny hat though.JoshuaJSlone said:I've seen some people say that the propeller hat is a weak flying powerup compared to SMB3's raccoon tail or SMW's cape. I think this is a bad comparison. The modern New Super Mario Bros. team seems against flying in general, to prevent people from skipping stuff by just going over it. The propeller hat is more of a jump with benefits; in the same class as Super Mario Land 2's bunny hat.

Totally serious about this one. It's not like there are any gameplay differences between the four characters to begin with.

rhino4evr said:I have to say that it my biggest pet peeve with the DS NSMB..I never ran out of lives. I mean never. It's almost impossible, mainly because the game is easy, but mostly because the game allowed you to collect multiple 1-ups in every stage. I had 99 lives by the time I got to World 2.
Johnas said:I have 99 lives, have not continued, and don't see myself doing so. There are still multiple opportunities for death and some clever, tricky platforming, so don't let that bother you that much. It's just really generous with the extra lives.

This is what Im talking about!!! Fix this Nintendo. If I have 99 Lives, does it matter if I even die? I mean you had to EARN lives in the early Mario games. In Mario 3, you had to win those mini-game match games..or it would be game over for good yo. Especially in world 8. I remember finishing the game with only 1 life left...so stressful.
I guess Mario World was the first to break this rule, but it totally takes away from the "suspense" of a level when you know you have another 99 tries ahead of you.
With the ability to save progress, and re-track cetain levels there is no reason why we should need so many lives.
Then I guess NSMB Wii perfected the idea of a "lift" item that doesn't make it possible to just fly over everything.BikoBiko said:You could fly through some levels with ease using the bunny hat though.
Hobbun said:I understand you like the greater challenge that way, and maybe they should make lives less common to come by. But one thing I did not like about the earlier Mario games is there was no saving, the guys you had to complete the game, thats it. To some, they may like that, but for me it would just be frustrating. I am glad on that change, where you can actually save now.
So, Berry and Gold. That's not too bad. Easy to remember.SilverLunar said:Bucken-Berry?? :lol :lol :lol
