The Official Okami Thread of Awesome

I took captures by plugging the video signal into my PC.
I guess you could also use a digital camera and take rapid shots of the TV screen.
I would have never been able to get past that point with pure memorization. No way.

Hm. I'm going to try using a camera. I hope there aren't more wall guys in this game. It is really killing us memory deficient people.:lol

ahaha, still going on *shakes head solemnly*

As for the bear, he's in Agata forest right by the entrance. In the forest are
several balls you can roll. You must find three of the balls and roll them to him for the 'reward', which in advance is just a lot of praise so you can avoid it.

Third one???

*Runs back to play that area*

I love this game!!

I'm gonna side with what some people have been saying. You cannot condem touch screen/waggle controls and love okami's brush at the same time. That's no go zone.

No, drawing a bomb is not faster than switching through a couple items and hitting the appropriate button. Yes, it is more interesting regardless. I very much like okami's approach but I also embrace touch screen/waggle controls, so that makes me okay in my book.

I'm only 3 hours in though.

I'm honestly lucky to have found a copy of Okami where I live. When I saw it, I had to blink a few times just to make sure.

then I peed

nah immediately having access to any tool is significantly faster than going into your menu, equipping the appropriate item if it's not in any your 'hot button', and then going. With this, it's simply done with one extremely elegant solution that succeeds on virtually every level (downfall being that, occasionally, it might not register your mark correctly)

It's such a smooth flowing thing, and it's going to be impossible to replicate in other games without being 100% copycat since it ties so directly into Okami's world. Shame about that, but it's great while it last.

Why is it so hard for me to hit the points on the brick door guy so he cracks???

The one in on top of the hill (using the flowers to reach it), in the village with Princess Fuse and the curse. The 4 weak points on this guy always change, and they have to be exact and perfectly on the spot. I always think I got it right, but it doesn't work and he throws boulders on me.

Is there any trick or easier way to do this? This has been pissing me off for about 10 minutes straight.

Other than that, the game is okay. Kind of easy, kind of annoying, but still enjoyable. :D

Unfortunately I'm still stuck at the 5 point wall. Camera trick didn't help me at all.

just dropping in to let everyone know that i get deep, silly pleasure from running around shinshu field feeding animals and fighting monkeys with guitars.

that is all.

the game is a far sight better than any i've played lately; i of course haven't finished it, but the moment to moment enjoyment of playing it is more fun than i had playing ico (though experiencing the playing of that game was certainly something else to discuss altogether).

it's got it's problems, as many people have already laid on the table, so i won't touch on them anymore. but the game is a damn solid adventure game with some unique play mechanics, compelling pacing that actually makes me want to continue to play (which is more rare than i'd like to admit with some games lately), and--last, and most obviously, i think--an art style that is really cool.

i don't think i agree with anyone saying this is gotg, and i definitely don't sync up with the sentiment that it's better than any 3d zelda (actually, that notion seems completely insane to me).

but i do think for any adventure-loving gamers out there raised loving zelda, okami seems to be a really nice experience to fill in the gap between now and twilight princess.

well Zelda works like that too Himuro.

for example in OOT to access the Forest Temple you need the hookshot also to be able to enter the Fire Temple you need the red shirt for Link.

I think the concept of earning the respect and admiration of all of earth's beings through favors is lost on Himu. Do you not care if the bunnies love you? What a pity.

In order to continue the story you have to tedious tasks for people and you honestly don't give a shit.

No, YOU don't give a shit. I do, and so do the majority of the people in this thread, stop trying to piss on everyone's parade

Man what a pain to get that one up the hill, but worth it. The next two areas are awesome, it just keeps getting better and better.

Haa, yeah the final one is the hardest to get up the hill. It was so rewarding seeing
the Sleepy Bear dance and the music that accompanied it. This game is SO ****ING POLISHED

yup, I pretty much give as much shit as any game i've played this generation, in fact. It's absolutely god-damn magical.

The first dungeon and first boss were amazing, but it's been decidedly meh since then. I'm hoping it picks up, because the game certainly isn't awful

At first it is crappy but later its pretty cool, especially the really big fish. But never as good as OoT.

Overall I agree with your point about the game not being OoT, its no Zelda but its the closest thing I have ever seen a game come to it. Maybe you are focusing to much on what it isn't than just enjoying the experience.

A put some more hours in, there is a ton of stuff to do before you get to the next dungeon, wow. Loving the game more than ever.

I just wanted to say its awesome to see Haruka in the game. :)

Himuro said:
Well damn. The dungeons in this are starting to get damn creative. Finally.

Sunken ship dungeon and the dungeon where you're as small as Issun have some excellent ideas. Great ideas in fact. The Sunken Ship, especially, was a great (albeit small) dungeon.

Some good ideas going on here and it's a shame you have to play 15-20 or so hours to finally experience it.

I said earlier in this thread "It's no Zelda but it's the next best thing."

It's finally living up to the words I spewed and being creative and fun like it was in the first 5 hours.

Man you are a post ninja, I swear that was less that 50 seconds since I wrote that.

Himuro said:
The spider boss? That was by far the best boss in the game so far.

Where are you?

Before the second dungeon,
searching for the last three canines. She is in the village that was filled with evil, in the hotel.

Himuro said:
The girl in the toilet? What was significant about her?

At night she is in her room, she tells you her dad was killed and she gives you a wanted enemies sheet, like that first mission

Not that significant but it put a smile on my face when I saw the name.

THISSS GAMEEEE ROCCKKS

I'm about three hours or so in and I want to go back and play.

Rejuvenating the land is so goddamn gorgeous.

You ain't seen nothing yet. :D

I thought the game was good at 3 hours in, but IT GETS EVEN BETTER later on. I'm around the 7 hour mark and amazed at how good this game is so far. Strong, strong GOTY contender...

Wow, I'm actually starting to hurt for money. Been eyeing up the
seven sword thing in the capital but it's 100,000
and I can't really afford it with all the skills i can learn now ='(

EDIT: wtf am i supposed to do with the cat statues?

The game is great and I have this irresistible urge to travel the world and feed every creature.

Still, the constant brush stroking in battle is wearing on my patience. I'd much rather just beat the stuffing out of enemies, but it's so inefficent. I just got bombs which is a huge help in crowd control, but drawing them each fight is a drag.

You will probably hate the brush in battle later where its pretty much required before you can even start hurting enemies.

man, how the hell do you accurate draw a line between two objects? it never connects!

your technique must be wrong because this is easily the simplest thing to do.

Your brush is automatically drawn to parts you connect (like floating flower buds). In the case of that, look for the 'green color' and the sort of tiny magnetic pull on your brush (i.e. your brush is slightly pulled when you near these locations on the R1 screen) around those areas and start from there, and then pull it down to Amaterasu where you'll also see a green color. End it there, and it works automatically.

For everything else, same deal except maybe not with the magnetic part... if you see water, you simply start the line from the water (you'll see a 'blue color') and then end it where you want to. You'll know it's a spot that works if you see another 'blue color' at the end of your line. Same for fire, except it'll be a 'red color'
