The only thing that Dark Souls 2 does better than DKS1 and DKS 3 is...

I did a video talking about the hub themes from the dark souls game and while I didn't share my outright opinion of them all, I think the Firelink Shrine theme from 1 is the best one of the bunch. While music is subjective in tastes, and music theory even more so, I'm of the opinion that music is a lot like a good puzzle - a simple solution that makes you feel like a genius for figuring it out is the best way to go.

Majula and Dark Souls 3's Fire Link are way more complicated in structure and instrumentation than Dark Souls 1, but they say essentially the same thing musically with a lot more effort and work put into them. Basically how the entire series goes, if you ask me.

I have not played Dark Souls III yet but I am sure Dark Souls II does a lot of thing better than 1 even if it fails a bit in some areas.

Majula theme is really excellent and from time to time I listen to it while working. So soothing and nostalgic.

Majula theme is cool. I don't have strong feelings about Majula itself versus Nexus or Firelink.

Dark Souls 2 also did covenant better than other games in the series. Online in general was better, after some initial hiccups.

Best hub theme I think I have to go with DS1. Video game music is greatly enhanced by your love of the game itself, and vice versa, so the firelink theme wins be default because of the game surrounding it. Best OST has to go to Bloodborne though. Some of the best boss themes in the whole series are in just the DLC alone.

I actually find Dark Souls 3's hub theme to be quite overblown and overly dramatic. It's an enjoyable piece of music and really well done for sure but it feels too heavy handed for repeated listens like that.

It's my favorite. The soothing sunlight and that theme makes me want to curl up into a ball under that lone tent and take a nice little nap. I always get a sense of relief when I come back to Majula.

Don't forget covenants. DS2 has a lot more variety and PVE focused covenants. It was a pretty shocking and sad to see DS3 regress so much in this regard after DS2 nailed it. That's about the only thing it nailed however.

One thing dark 2 does better than dark 1 and bloodborne is the availability of upgrade materials. Its so much easier to grind for all materials including slabs that you can experiment with any of the many weapons with no penalty for using a slab.

Haven't played dark 3 yet but I doubt it comes close to the amount available.
