The Original Shoot-Em-Up Omega Five Official Thread

Anyone still playing this? I managed to make my way up to #128 in the Arcade rankings the other day and will push to crack the top 100 next week. Such an awesome game that really shows how well thought out it is when start to learn the chaining system.

I just bought this today to support 360 shmups (got Exelica earlier in the week too). Just finished the first level and the earlier bits of the second before I lost my two continues. It's pretty nice; the demo was too short to showcase the game properly. Local co-op will be fun, but my main objective is 1cc'ing this with all the characters.

My friend and I bought this and jumped in game, looking for the 'invite player' option. Man, was the joke on us or what? I can't believe in this day an age we have a 2 player shooter that's not even playable over live.

Thankfully, the game is fucking awesome and wasn't a waste of either of our collective moneys. It really is the best shooter I've played in years. The last one I enjoyed this much was all the way back in the 90s with Raiden 2.

It does feel a little short though, however I think that works to its advantage. You never get time to get sick of it.

Wait, this game is awesome. Played some 2p co-op with my brother. We didn't even get past the 1st level after a few attempts, but that was pretty intense. I have zero regrets about getting this game now. I should have gotten it sooner. The demo really doesn't do it justice.

Along those same lines, though, it's definitely a solid game. Better than the Milestone DC stuff at the very least.
I would definitely agree with this, but I won't say that this is a great game... yet. It really comes down to your particular specialization/tilt in the genre. I'm not a fan of this style shooter, although I can still appreciate it and the effort that was put into developing it. The pace and gameplay just didn't do it for me on my first few tries, but this thread is definitely resparking my interest. After the bombs dropped with the Cave 360 news, I'm digging just about anything shooter-related these days.

Forgive the late bump but does anyone have a larger version of the Japanese artwork for this game?

Holy crap, I haven't played this game since I got it... but have been absorbed by it completely the past couple of days. I need to just finish out level four. I want that damn retro mode. Were the sales for this game good? I would love to see another couple of levels (possibly willing to pay for them)..... or maybe a sequel (which I doubt).

retro mode actually looks kind of nasty but overall amazing game ive beaten this thing through so many times it's not even funny and the soundtrack is absolutely amazing

haha :lol

Never heard of this guy, but I must watch more of his reviews now.

"Tempest ..he's well prepared for something that never happens.. like a level five"

(Omega Five is still one of my favorite shmups and I was even playing it just last week)

Hey guys, since I'm loving Omega5 (vlttp I know) is there anything similar (not only in playstyle, since I also love vertical and dualstick shooters, but also as far as production values go) on Live Arcade already out/coming out?
Also I have to say the "normal" mode is a cake, I've beaten all 4 stages with just 2 credits after 50 minutes into my the first time with it, but damn "challenge" mode is brutal!
They should've put something inbetween for the less skilled players like myself :lol

Also, am I missing something or Omega 5 keeps your highscores only when you're online while playing it? At the end of any match I'm asked to upload my score to the leaderboards, and if I'm not online that it just "fail to connect" without showing me the score or where to see my previous ones. Hopefully I'm wrong, because that sucks balls.

Welcome to the awesome party, Omega Five is amazing and so is the music.

Yeah I had problems playing the game offline last year, it would still try to access the scoreboards after I finished playing and half the time lock up because I was offline, rather stupid of them to allow that.

I found that once you play the entire game through a few times you learn the layouts and can blitz through the game rather easily in 1 credit, and i'm not the best at these scrolling shooters. I have 200/200 so I am happy :D

Diablo to the rescue! Damn you'rer always the one I end up talkin' to about quirks in games :D
I'm 180/200, going for 200 tonight (and I 1CC the game yesterday).
I just think there's a missed oppurtunity as far as weapons go. Basically you can just breeze through the game with the very same weapon since the others are useless (B type for Ruby/RAD, A for Tempest... haven't unlocked Sensei yet).

i should just go and buy this game. the demo did not sell me at all back when it was released, but people seem to like it a lot.

and i do love the horizontal shooters.
