Listened to the short Mega Man 2-segment, and I dont know if you guys know, but the "normal"-mode that you probably plays on, was added for the westerrn release because Capcom thought the game was too hard for a western audience. The original difficulty is "difficult", which is also not that hard, but more in line with the challenge in the other Mega Man-games. Nowhere close Mega Man 1 though.

Lookit this guy here, knowin' what mode we probably play on...

I tend to play on the original Japanese difficulty unless I'm looking to really breeze through the game.

Well then I am sorry for assuming anything else. Thought it was strange that this point didnt come up in the discussion though, considering you knew about it. Great show once again though!

Probably my fault. I just assume that everyone plays on the "real" mode.

I always assume that as well, which is why I'm always so surprised when I hear people complain about how hard the game is.

Yeah, with the added "normal" mode the game becomes a complete joke. More or less every normal boss can be beaten by just standing in front of it with the buster and shoot, as you will give the boss damage faster than it will be able to give you. Which is pretty meaningless imo.

I have to admit I haven't listened to the podcast in over a year. Was definitely my favorite of the bunch. Going to have to jump back in. Since I have been gone for so long did they ever say or do we know why mik is no longer doing the podcast.

Phil, people are willing to trade starters because you can breed them with Dittos to create as many as you want. Not sure why anyone would go out of their way to hatch eggs to exchange for stuff they could easily catch but trading for stuff like Pokemon exclusive to one version makes sense.

Pretty sure he gives a brief explanation earlier in this thread, scheduling conflicts are what it boiled down to.

I still miss hearing him on the show, who knows if he'd be interested and he's effectively been replaced in the lineup at this point but I wish they'd occasionally reschedule the show so he could be on, even if it were a few times a year or just for the annual Best Of shows.

I most certainly do. More Vita and VR please.

Also wish CJ would talk about the mobile games he plays.

I don't like hearing lengthy discussions about mobile games, but I do like when CJ makes recommendations every once and awhile. Maybe if he just took five minutes every few episodes to give some recommendations that would be cool. Navigating the Google Play store for something worth playing is brutal. The last game I played on my phone was Teeny Titans and it was because of the recommendation on P1P (I think it was actually Phil who brought it up, but CJ had also played it). That game was really good, and my kids still play it almost every day. I would have never randomly dropped $5 on it to see if it was worth playing otherwise.

No one wants to hear him ramble on about Vita games for 2 hours.

Pretty much this. I used to research the Vita-games he talked about, but i never discovered anything interesting, so i gave up on it. Dude is still awesome though.

This episode is my new favorite.

- The Zelda Let's Play was on Wii U - you could see them passing the gamepad back and forth.
- The Windjammers thing is a Giant Bomb/Jeff Gerstmann thing (right?)
- I do like Wart! SMB2 is a great game.
- I have the NES Classic carrying case too!
- Haha Raw Data
- OMG Ethan's award show name. Amazing.
- The copies of Last Guardian are flowing like a fine wine.

Yeah it's higher than your average F2P game but not a game-changer. I think Sony will have a difficult time too.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Agreed that $4.99 would have been a more flexible 'impulse-friendly' purchasing option all things considered. That said, Nintendo does consider itself a very premium brand and there shouldn't have been a doubt they would price-elevate their most precious of franchises at the upper-tier of mobile options. Not a defense, just them setting expectations appropriately for their property.

Oh and yes, certain 3DS titles offer far more at a similar price-range. None of them have the words 'Super Mario' in their title.

But really everyone should just play Picross instead.

Episode 528: Grabbed by the Gophers

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Okay Last Christmas was nice - Ethan aka. with his Angel-like voice surprised me.

Not done yet - but i was pretty much Phil during the Super Mario Run discussion, just wanted it to end at some point...first time ever i felt like skipping a segment. Not because i was pro or contra a argument - just felt too much energy was being spent around SMRs release like it was supposed to be the incredible game changer.

The game requiring constant internet access is the real bummer though - its like Nintendo wants to drive people away from mobile to get their traditional console games on 3DS and soon Switch ..heh.

From what many people have gathered Nintendo wants to make money on mobile - but their other goal is to use mobile effort to promote their big console games. So i think the console games will always look like the better deal when comparing content offering in relation to the pricepoint.

btw. Playing to unlock more options/features isnt some weird new f2p scheme but has been part of regular console since the beginning. I understood the price point issue and the online/piracy prevention sucks for many customers - but having to "play" the game to unlock or expand extra modes is pretty much every Nintendo game.Unless im missing something here.

Yeah when I listened to his track I could not stop laughing because he took it way more seriously than the rest of us.

That was what I thought was particularly funny. In many games you have to play to unlock stuff. I get that if you have the coins you should be able to buy them, but it's a progression unlock - something video games have had for a long time.

Jebus, that Super Mario Run discussion. lol

Easily skipped with the chapter markers if your podcast client supports it. :)

That game is definitely not worth $10. It's also not very fun.

The conversation gets weird when two of the participants are in the mobile business. I don't really give a good goddamn if SMR is a "mobile success story"--that doesn't do anything for me.

Also, comparing the price to "two lattes at Starbuck's" (as I've heard many people do) is beyooooooooooooooond idiotic.

That Last Christmas rendition was amazing. At first I thought it went a little long, but by the end, I had a huge smile on my face.

Thank you guys for putting that together this year. I felt like I needed that more than ever.

Edit: the problem with Mario Run is that it is a simplified version of a game that was already supposed to be "back to the basics." Also they need to ditch that Nsmb art style. I loved NSMBWiiU, but enough is enough.
