That's not a "hidden browser" in the PS5. That's literally built into any Twitter apps.

Browsers are so complex to build, so it's very easy to find an exploit compromising the whole system. They need to find a way to isolate the program from the system like Chrome OS.

AFAIK, Xbox uses a hypervisor system, so the isolation is running at base level. PS4/PS5 runs everything on bare metal so it needs carefully crafted methods.

Fun fact, PS3 used to have a similar hypervisor, so you can install Linux on it.

IDK but so far PS5 is missing alot of stuff like 1440p output support, no VRR, not letting you store PS5 games on external hard drive and now no web browser.

Running on bare metal can squeeze more performance, also be less error-prone when communicating with hardwares. Hypervisor adds another potential failure point to exploit so it won't necessarily be better in terms of security. I agree Sony needs to find a way to sandbox the browser or anything that could run unauthorized code.

Web browsers on console are not necessary when everybody has their phone right next to them all the time. That was cool in 2006, but not today.

Also, it's very obvious that the PS5 would have a background web browser the moment they announced a game like Genshin Impact would be playable on it.

I'm willing to bet that anybody with a decent phone or computer doesn't actually use console web browsers. They're great when in a pinch, but they're slower and clunker compared to using a PC or Mobile browser. Not to mention, services like Netflix, YouTube, etc. all have dedicated apps on consoles these days, so there isn't much of a need to access them through a browser.

Not at all. I don't usually use web browser on my PS4, but is much convenient to do it because of the errors the game or console update have, and with just one click of the button they send me to the HTML support page about or to the game support page.

BTW, Genshin Impact use a lot of the PS4 web browser, so for me is a win to win. I can leave my phone alone while playing just fine.

I honestly think the surprise was that it was outperforming XBSX. That was how it came across to many people in the DF video that originated from. In hindsight, it seems to be true.

What I do not understand about the PS5 is there are settings for a browser. Yet, no official browser.
