This is one series that might be even better than it's original source material.

It really is such a visual treat. I feel the same way watching One Punch Man. Like what wacky bizarre looking creature will pop up next.

It's so odd that they got Arsenio Hall to do Winston.......... Especially when Ernie Hudson said he would do Winston for the animated series lol.

Such a great cartoon. Best episodes outside of Knock, Knock and Citizen Ghost you should all check out:

Drool the Dog-Faced Goblin
The Man Who Never Reached Home
Janine's Day Off
Mr Sandman
Night Game
Lupusville
Gah I could go on and on.

The first and second season are all mostly great and that's like 100 episodes. The art design for the ghosts was amazing, it didn't feel like a kids show. THIS is the Ghostbusters they need to bring back. RGB > the movie
Was "Night Game" the one where Winston gets taken into the ghost dimension to pitch a baseball game? I don't know why that one always stuck out in my memory.

I watched a couple episodes of this that were included on the Ghostbusters 1&2 DVD set. The animation quality is pretty painful.

What are the must see episodes and story arcs? Does the animation get better or worse as the series goes on? It seems like most shows either go uphill or downhill.

The animation quality varies from episode to episode as I believe they were farmed out to different animation studios, some of it is pretty good quality for the period (Egon on the Rampage), whilst other episodes stand out for their poor quality (A Fright At The Opera being one the worst).

Pretty sure he even auditioned for it.

I thought I had read somewhere that Ernie was stopped from voicing Winston in the cartoons due to restrictions in his movie contract. I'll have to look that up, tho...

[EDIT] nope, but he was filming another movie at the time

AVC: This may be an urban legend, but did you audition to do the voice of Winston for the Ghostbusters animated series, only to be passed over for the gig?

EH: Yeah, I did, and it was funny, ’cause they said, “You don’t have to audition for the part, but the director wants to hear you read the material.” So I went in to read the material, and the guy said, “No, no, no, that’s all wrong! When Ernie Hudson did it in the movie...” And I’m like, “Well, wait a minute: I am Ernie Hudson!” [Laughs.] So when I left, they said, “No, it’s not a problem, you’re gonna do the voice.” They called me about it—I was shooting a film; I can’t remember what film I was doing—and then I never heard anything from them. Then I found out that Arsenio [Hall] was doing it. I was very busy doing other stuff, but I was really disappointed because the thought of someone else doing Winston was not something I felt great about. Arsenio’s a friend, so there’s no disrespect to him. But they had me come in and read, and even though they said I wasn’t auditioning, I dunno, I guess I was just there to have the director get on my nerves. Who knows what happened there? Whatever the case, I didn’t get the part. Unfortunately.

Help me find an episode! I can't remember much, and what I do remember might be unreliable. But, it starts with a crate with a statue in it being unloaded on some docks and maybe it gets hits by lightning and comes to life.

We had it recorded on a tape when I was a kid and we watched it all the time. Can't find an episode about a statue coming to life, though.

I think that episode is called It's A Jungle Out There from season 3.

So loved this show as a kid and absolutely hated it when the animation got changed and Slimer got inserted more into it. That was so damn bad. One of the fun things about the show was as a kid it could scare you, but that was half the fun, the threats at the time felt real and the Ghostbusters would always overcome them. It was great.

I still remember one episode that use to spook me as a kid, it was the one with the ghost up in the old ladies attic her father summoned once. It was well done.

YUP! That's the exact same episode I couldn't watch as a kid. I'd get a few minutes into it and just couldn't get myself to watch the rest. Even the Boogeyman episodes were pretty scary, but I could sit through those.

Remember when the Ghostbusters started busting criminals. Yeah that was a weird episode. The crimelord is literally called Crime Lord haha

Was surprised to see this pop-up on Netflix.
My childhood right there.

Some episodes have really badly drawn animation and colors though.
Hard to enjoy at times.

'The Hole in the Wall Gang' is another excellent episode, there's a really trippy animation of a guy melting in his bed in the first minute or so which isn't totally appropriate for a kids cartoon, and then at 13:30 in the ep you have Ray returning from another dimension with white hair (referenced in the GB2016 movie) with a funny/freaky exchange. It's a cool little story too.

The Boogeyman is still pretty creepy as an adult. I can see why he freaked us all the fuck out as kids.

I finally watched the episode (first one it was in?) and it does bring something back from childhood. What an absolute nightmare of a design (in a good way).

There are a ton of great episodes. A few off the top of my head:

The Collect Call of Cthulhu
The Boogieman Cometh
Ragnarok and ROll
The Thing in Mrs. Faversham's Attic

This was the episode that almost got my butt in trouble! We were a deeply religious house, but I loved Ghostbusters. Transformers: The Movie and Ghostbuster snuck in under the radar because the adults weren't paying attention. Pretty sure this came on when Ghostbusters started coming on on Saturdays with better animation. This was either before or after Were-chicken.

This episode had full on demonic possession and an exorcism. I was blown away watching this thing. My mom walked into the room during the climax and was STUNNED. She couldn't believe this was in a cartoon.

And it was SOOO GOOD. Def one of my favorites of this series.

EDIT - This not only WASN'T the episode I thought it was, I can't FIND the episode that I'm looking for! I remember the RGB investigating a haunted house only to discover that the house wasn't haunted, but the OWNER of the house was possessed. I thought i remember a sweet old lady (which is why I thought it was the Favershim episode) but upon watching it, that wasn't it. Was this episode pulled?

EDIT 2 - Ah, it was Mrs. Rogers Neighborhood!
