The controls are shaky yes. But I don't know, to me, it comes with the territory of this game. I'm not sure they had enough time to refine it, maybe they should talk to Miyamoto. That being said, for some reason I can quite easily overlook it. Its not a major drag to me at all.ShockingAlberto said:The controls are pretty bad, to be honest. But there aren't a lot of ways they could have done them. If you did D-Pad/touchscreen control, you'd lose the ability to easily move the camera, which is important. If you made the camera shift with L, you can't move while you're offscreen and it would be pretty uncomfortable regardless.
I think there were a lot of different ways they could have done it, but probably not many better ways.
Still, it's annoyingly frustrating when the jumping is inconsistent (sometimes I can get over a truck, other times I can't; sometimes I can jump out of water before a shark kills me, other times I can't) and it unfairly feels like the controls kill me more than my bad ideas.

I apologize then. See, this is the kind of info I wanted -- I hadn't heard about Best Buys having it early, only a Wal-Mart and a few places in NYC.KScorp said:One of the Best Buys in my area had it out today, on the shelves. One of my friends was planning on buying it day 1, so I called him up, and bought it for him. Of course, I played it a bit (~3 hours) before handing it over. :lol

Exactly. See also these posts:Rez said:talking about and using banned games should be stigmatized, though, I reckon.
it's not difficult to take a pic of the games case with a written note and post it.
andAmir0x said:ah, the pic. We have to be very protective of this sort of thing because this is a site for developers and publishers, and they have to feel this is a secure environment to discuss their games without fear of piracy. When you go around posting images of a game a week in advance, and claim you can't post pics of it and you'll lose your job, that's a red alarm.
Amir0x said:Produce evidence that you have a physical copy immediately or you will be banned from GAF permanently in one hour. Tick tock.

Yeah. Once I get to actually sit down with the game, it will probably be something that won't bother me as much. My impressions at the time were basically "FUCK THE WOLF IS EATING YOU I'VE SEEN YOU JUMP OVER THIS LEDGE BEFORE"GregLombardi said:The controls are shaky yes. For the record, I don't own the game yet. But when looking for Valkyria Chronicles, it was in the DS demo unit. I played it for about twenty minutes.Blizzard said:If I'm not mistaken, out of the 10 or so people who have gotten the game, about 4-5 have commented on the controls being iffy, too.

Kind of. It feels like you don't really have control of Maxwell, you just tell him where to go and he goes. Although it's more like "tap somewhere on the screen, and Maxwell interprets what he has to do." It makes throwing objects especially difficult, since that action requires two quick taps, and if you're too slow or if they aren't close enough to each other, Maxwell starts running off in that direction (often into the thing you're trying to shoot.) You'll find that happening a lot since Maxwell doesn't know how to calculate trajectory, so you'll have to do it manually.ZombieSupaStar said:is it like pulling someone with a string?

I second the PC idea. Now that I've had a go at Scribblenauts, PC just seems like the natural platform for this game. If only for better control.
(Also, just to clarify, the game is still amazing. I didn't reach any four star puzzles but I already had to skip some levels due to their difficulty. This is one hell of a game!)
Man, that Maxwell cake is so awesome. I would feel so bad about eating itpoweld said:

This worked! (Again, with some luck and fiddling around.)someguyinahat said:I haven't played the game yet, but how big is the tornado? Is it shrinkable, to make it a more manageable size...cause less damage etc.?
This also worked! Specifically, byWoo-Fu said:I'm not there yet but you might want to try a "bombshelter". Note: this will not work for nuclear bombs, lol.

There's some other cool stuff you can see in my pics that they were handing out, but yeah the maxwell cake was definitely the most awesome thing I saw there.
