To be honest, I would prefer Spoony over 90% of the TGWTG (ThatGuyWithTheGlasses) people by a significant margin. He's hit or miss, but I have to give him credit; he's pretty funny when he gets that hit off (ie, not relying on crossovers, characters, storylines, etc, etc).
That's not exactly a high bar to cross...

I like alot of Spoony's stuff, but I felt he really started to go downhill when he had that incredibly stupid war with the people that made Deadliest Warrior.

While Spoony does the opposite, and it draws attention AWAY from his work by shouting at anyone and everyone that their opinion is wrong on game ____ and it winds up doing a huge disservice to him.

In addition, AVGN is smarter in the sense that he tries pretty hard to not let any facet his real life bleed into the AVGN persona.
On the alternative, almost everybody on TGWTG loves doing that, and usually it is for the worse (e.g., including his view on current games, everybody on the internet knowing about Spoony's relationship and clinical depression issues).

I don't follow him on twitter or anything, so I don't really see him arguing, which if it is childish is bad, but I'd rather have him give his opinions on topical movies/games rather than not. Even when I disagree, he usually supports his points well.

can't argue; ive a few friends who adore guy with glasses retro shit and my comment was more aimed at that. i watched the FF VIII thing, and it had its funny bits - just, whenever the camera is off the game, 99% of the time it's failing pretty hard for me.
Yeah, I skip past all the costumed, overarching storyline stuff. It's just way too cheesy. It's a shame, for all the time he seems to put into those, but I find it unwatchable.
As for what he thinks about Zelda or other games? Why give a crap? Unless he's racist, misogynistic or a homophobe or whatever his opinions outside of any given video I watch are unimportant. I feel like some people want him to 'manage his brand identity' better, or something.

I must've missed the videos where he was whining about Scarlett, I didn't even know they broke up. I love Spoony's vids like those about Robowar and Strike Commando and so on.
I like his movie reviews sometimes.
I think I like Brad Jones more now, but I don't care for the horror movies he reviews, which is why I don't really watch Pheleous either. But when he reviews other 80's movies or stuff as 80's dan he's hilarious.

Personally I have grown tired of his reviews in the style of the FF X ones. For some reason my favorites by him are his VLOGs and his movie reviews. I think when he is just sitting in front of the camera talking he is at his best. Hell, I even love hearing him talk about stuff I have no interest in such as when he unboxed his table top games.

Lately I enjoy his movie reviews immediately after seeing them with his brother. The casual atmosphere, no production values, just giving their impression.
Of course they're ridiculously spoiler heavy, so it either has to be a movie you've seen or one you're sure you won't be seeing/don't mind having spoiled for you.

Just now got around to watching the review. Sheesh, this looks like such an incredibly frustrating game. My heart goes out to anyone that played it, looking forward to a really good followup.

Ultima IX wasn't as bad as VIII.
I enjoyed it after patching it up.
Never finished though.
That was my favorite part too, how he inserted the overblown explosion graphic into the Zelda game.

I think it's actually the other way around.
Pagan had its flaws but it was an amazing game overall.
Ultima XI was a broken, virtually unplayable mess. It used to run like shit for years and to look outrageously outdated when finally the hardware capable of running it decently was available.
So glad he is back on the Ultima reviews. Man, I remember shelling out for the voice pack as well for my floppy copy of U8. Never made it past a few hours of that trainwreck, but I was never a big Ultima guy anyway. Never knew the CD-rom patched the jumping as such, that is huge!
Looking forward to his UIX review as the sheer backlash it received at launch was enough to convince me to never touch it.

The rambling about Shuyin/Tidus only helped to highlight why I can't get invested into the FF games. I have an even harder time following their story/logic than the MGS games.

I don't know how much you care for FMV/old computer games, but I really recommend watching his videos for Ripper and Phantasmagoria 2. They're probably my two favorite things he's done of all his content.

Yep. Honestly, the 1000 Words's scene was rather poignant and very well-directed. Actual lip-sync and nice storytelling, indeed.
