The Super Stardust HD Thread (my eyes burn from the amazing!)

Yeah, I know. I'm giving myself a break from the arcade mode though. Already got the 45 second one, I think I can get the Endless ones with some practice, but I have no idea how to get Bomber :\

But this will all be for naught considering I don't have anybody else for the co-op one -_-;
Bomber is the hardest one. Most of the others were a no-brainer for me. For bomber, I actually watched a youtube video about it :lol :lol

I kid you not.

The 10 nukes one can be kinda hard, especially since you're just starting out.

EDIT: Don't worry, I have no one to play with either. And Im not paying $5 to become more of a trophy whore

For those of you still having trouble getting trophies, DON'T GIVE UP HOPE!

Today after almost a month of trying I finally managed to get the 10x multiplier trophy (being patient seems to help a lot) around the end of the fourth planet.

I went on a bit of a hot streak and managed to get the last 7 minutes without dying in Endless as well and got as high as 13 bombs in Bomber mode and made it to around the 6th or 7th nuke.

My advice is this: take long breaks after getting frustrated and come back to the game when you feel relaxed otherwise getting any of these trophies can be a real chore.

For the 10x multiplier, just be patient. There is no rush to get the multiplier up as fast as possible. Max out your weapons quickly (focus on Rock Crusher, then Gold Melter, then Ice) and always get the Shields.

It can be totally worth it to boost towards a Shield in the middle of chaos if you don't already have one.

For the bosses, just take out everything around them then go after them. The fight is made much easier that way.

Good luck!
To all of us!

FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY got 100% trophies in Stardust today, thanks to PS3Fanboys Trophy guide.

Bomber one was the hardest by far. I'm never playing that mode again.

Endless on the other hand is pure fun.

I call it gamer eye. In frenetic games like this and FPSes where I snipe, I start crying pretty much because I never blink. My wife thinks its weird, until we played coop SSHD and she did it too.:lol

I just got the 10 nukes one on endless yesterday. First time I tried to get it too. I had like 30 bombs right after I destroyed the 9th nuke, so it was pretty easy getting to the 10th.

I came SO close to getting the Bomber trophy yesterday, :(

Since I got all the trophy's have not touch the game. I know without custom soundtracks I would have given up on late bomber a long time ago but I like jamming out and playing.

How do I exactly bring up the nukes in Endless mode?
from GameFaqs

The easiest way to get this is to understand how to get the nukes to come down...

There are green spiky things that come down with numbers that count down from 3 to 0. On the first nuke you only need to get one of them down to 0 and the nuke will show up - generally on the other side of the planet. Next time you have to get 2 of them to count down (enemies / rocks / etc. can blow them up too). They appear on opposides of the planet. Once you have one counted down, go to the opposite and then get that one. After that nuke, all the rest only requiring taking 3 of the countdown timers down to 0, and a few seconds later - voila - a nuke appears.

Heh, I thought you had to take out a wave of enemies myself. :lol

Finally got the bomber and 10 nukes trophies though. Tried 190 times to get bomber one night and said screw it, but then come back before I go watch Dark Knight and get it on the 2nd try.

Just need the co-op trophy now. Have to unlock all the planets again though.

GameFaqs is wrong on the Nukes. The Nukes just come down after you clear out a few waves of enemies. The first one appears even if you don't break up any rocks or let any of the green mines blow up. Try it for yourself and see.

But doing it in normal is half the fun ^^

exactly.

endless mode was awesome since day 1!

I got the 10 nukes easy along with x10 multiplier since I played the shyt out of both modes.

OK. And what are theses "countdown spikes" supposed to do?

Nuts to that. I was hoping Gamefaqs was right, b/c I was gonna give it a shot today. I probably still will, but I guess I'll just focus on wiping out enemies. I guess it's like the 10x multiplier in that you just have to work at it. I'm missing the bomber and nuke trophies, and I don't think I'll ever get them. PEACE.

I finally downloaded this game yesterday and my god WTF is wrong with me why did I wait so long.

My favorite PSN game so far played it for 4 hours non-stop. I am ashamed to admit the trophies helped :(

bomber trophy is total bullshit. Its one of those things where if I ever get the trophy I will never play it again becasue the fun will be completely sucked out.

I got lucky unlocking the bomber trophy. I used the mines to destroy the first carrier and started back-tracking along it's path when I saw two bombs floating towards me. The other carrier must have blundered into a wayward mine. Lucky me.

About a second after I picked those two up, another carrier drops right behind me. I had 14 bombs at the stage so I used a single bomb to destroy it and picked up the two for the full 15. All that took was about 4 minutes :lol

To be fair, the game owed me a gimme at that stage...

Still only have the trophy left for 10 nukes. Any advice for this? I usually do good then I will utterly get owned. Usually its by those little triangle things (once it was almost never ending), and tips on them?

Blargh I just had a very annoying session of this...

I start off trying to see if I can go for the survive in Endless for 7 mins. I made it to 3 mins and decided to move on.

Then I decided to go towards the 10x multiplier, and while I'm at it, the collect 5 extra shields trophies... Well, I start going, get to like 7 or 8x multiplier and I lose my shield, but I'm still alive. Dammit! Well, I decided that I obviously am just going to go towards the 10x multiplier...

Well, all is going well, I get up to 9x multiplier, and I get to the fourth planet. Within 30 seconds of those asshole turrets, a bullet comes from off camera and smacks into me, losing my multiplier... :( I was so pissed.

Oh, and for getting the co-op achievement, do you unlock those planets by playing through single-player Planet mode? Or do you have to have a friend with you to do co-op with?

For the co-op you need the team pack, and if you unlock it in Solo it's unlocked in co-op.

There's a trick to this one.

Survive until a swarm of red triangles appears (you may have a try a few times as enemies are random). It should happen about 2 minutes in so survive until then.

When they do, do not kill all of them. New enemies will not spawn until all the red triangles are dead. You can kill asteroids and other stuff if you want.

Essentially, what I did was clear out all enemies except for a dozen red triangles or so chasing me. I then avoided them for about 4-5 minutes until I unlocked the trophy.

The triangles are faster than you so you have to boost regularly to stay ahead of them, but it's easy to do once you set the stage.

It might be possible to do with other enemies but that's how I did it.

The co-op trophy does not work for same-screen co-op which is in the base game; it only works with splitscreen co-op, for which you must buy the Team Expansion (also gets you splitscreen versus, the ability to edit your ship shape, and an "orchestral" mix of the soundtrack). But once you have the Team pack, you can easily get the trophy by yourself:

Just start Segomo and don't fire at all. Lay two controllers down and slowly move both ships so they stay close to each other. You'll have to scoot out of the way immediately since one berg drops straight on top of you, but after that most of the time you can sit still. Watch the horizon and if an asteroid is coming (there's only five or six in the first wave and they move slowly), just carefully glide out of the way in tandem. If you die or cause more ice to drop, just start over. It might take you three or four tries to tone down your Stardust reflexes and be more casual--slow and steady is the name of the game--but getting the trophy will take less than ten minutes. Compared to Late Boomer it's a cinch, and you get three times as much credit!

Amazing game, I just downloaded it. I can't understand how the demo didn't "tick" for me.

I have a question though, I've got all trophies (except 10x multiplier) and I'm interested in the expansion pack. However when I go to PSN Store I see both "Super Stardust HD: Solo Pack" and "Super Stardust HD: Team Pack".

Which one should I buy?

If you want a pack that contains some amazingly good new gameplay modes get Solo pack. If you look for that one co-op multi trophy, you'll need Team pack (which is also neat if you have friends to play offline multi modes, and if you want new 5.1 soundtrack). I'd buy Solo mode first any day.

Gotcha! Will buy both then. That gold is most definitely worth 5 bucks :)

Honestly... this is what I've come to really love and appreciate about games like Pac-man CE, and dislike about games like Super Stardust (as much as I enjoy the game). 4.5 hours for that score? I'm never, EVER going to have a shot at it. At this point, I'm far less impressed by being able to survive for hours, and far more impressed by being able to perfect a set, short amount of time as much as possible.

I really, really, REALLY wish Super Stardust had some sort of 5/10/15 minute timed mode(s).

While I do somewhat agree with you. Getting high scores in SSHD isn't about just surviving for hours. Many of the skills you'd need for shorter games still apply, having the proper tactics, and not to forget super human reflexes. As an example, you won't make it past the 3rd or so run without putting some thought into how to properly use each weapon.

I'm with you on the time issue, I really wish SSDH had some kind of save feature that let you start a run at the 4th, 5th or so difficulty.

Play Planet Mode. Or play Endless or Survival.

The record in Survival is 14:34.

I do have the team pack, and it shows the planet as locked. Maybe I'm just in the wrong mode.

Oh, and today I randomly decided to give it one last go at the 7 minute trophy and got it on my first try :D

Such a good day. I feel like I accomplished something especially with also unlocking Eden's 10x combo as well :D

It does. Planet mode is pretty short as it is, and Solo pack has plenty of short modes.

Okay, to be fair, Planet mode does come close to being what I want, but I still wish there was an even shorter, set time + balls to the wall kind of mode.

If I buy Super Stardust HD on an account, will only that account be able to use it, or are sub-accounts also able to use the game?

Just get Solo pack. I doubt you'll complain about this then.

All PSN Games can be played by sub accounts (except for GT5P?). You can also share all games (Except Warhawk [can be shared if you have no problem permanently sharing your PSN login info with somebody else] and GT5P) with up to 4 other systems.

Endless.

It's not timed but... I doubt you'd last long anyway. :lol

Oh my god... how long does it take from x9 to x10? This is how it went:

Planet 1 - x6
Planet 2 - x7
Planet 3 - x8
Planet 9 - x9
Planet 10, fourth wave - x9

And I fucking died

Similar experience for me as well... It's really just all based on what sort of how many points you are racking up. Don't just rush through the planets, but take your time and destroy all of the asteroids and such and collect all of the points that you can.

I think I'll try the x10 combo trophy later this week again.
