i love trials but the game gets so hard so fast. Completely ruined it for me.
Trials HD is like an abusive lover. No matter how hard it hits you, you always come crawling back.

Agreed. I got stuck on one part of Inferno 2 for like 3hours. I kept coming back each day until I could finally make the jump and win extreme.

It's more like an abusive lover that every now and again fucks your sucks off and makes you see stars. When I completed the first Extreme track the neighbours must have thought I was having massive multiple orgasms.

Ha, there really is something to making it past a level that's been screwing you over. :D
Indeed. I was pretty excited when I finally got over that jump. There was still three or four parts left of the map afterward, but I got past them in the same run. I was very happy I didn't have to do that part again. :D

Does this include a change to that last ridiculous achievement? I remember seeing word on the redlynx boards that they would ease it up a bit.

Why would they? It's called an achievement. It's not impossible, and after all, it's just a virtual trophy. If it bothers people that much that they don't have the achievement, they should go ahead and invest the time necessary to get it.

I don't understand the ideology that achievements should be easy to get. Some, yeah, but not all.

I fired this up last night after getting hyped for the DLC and I finally finished the extreme tracks! Hallelujah. Now I just need to complete the Ultimate Endurance Tournament. That's never going to happen.

I've started trying to convert my gold medals to platinums now. Some of those are insane!

Bingo. I agree with you 100%. Why are people mad that the hardest achievement in a very difficult game is really really hard to get? Suck it up and pull it off if you care so much.

Also agreed. As I stated above, I'm pretty damn sure I'll never get that last achievement but I'm glad it's in there, it gives me something to aspire to. If I ever do manage it, I'm declaring a national holiday. I think it's cool that there are some achievements that literally only a handful of the very best at that particular game will get. It's a shame that the spirit of the word 'achievement' seems to have been lost.

They are making alterations to that last achievement in the new patch (which is due before the DLC, because the DLC needs a patch to work):

http://www.redlynxgame.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=1852&start=300

0.01% of players have it now, but with the patch they say the top 1% should be able to get it.

They don't seem to specifically say what they've changed about it, though.

Well, I'll hold my judgement until I see what the revision is, but seems kind of lame without knowing the details.

On last weeks Bombcast they were talking about this very thing. Most of those guys are admitted achievement whores, but they were saying how lame it is when developers give you achievements for doing virtually nothing (like visiting the options screen). Those achievements are only good when it is for a joke (Simpsons game press the start button achievement).

You've gotta be kidding me. The hard tracks are a huge part of Trials HD.

You just gotta keep playing and you will beat the extreme tracks eventually. I was getting 500 faults when I first started, but now I've 0 faulted Inferno 2.

And I'm ranked in the first few hundred of the global ranking :)

edit: A redlynx guy at the forums said there are going to be more than 20 tracks :D

can't wait :)
need to go through and finish 0 faulting the hard/expert tracks.
To those complaining about the difficulty, try trials 2 on PC - by the time you finish that you will waltz through trialsHD in less than 5 attempts on each level.
I've had a couple of cracks at that last achievement, I usually get 14 levels through and screw up then just fail after fail then rage quit.

Lestropie has all the number one spots on trials 2 as well. Last time I looked his inferno time was 3 minutes better than whoever came second :/

An achievement need not be easy to get, but I think it should be achievable with a reasonable amount of time and effort (which obviously is a subjective measure). Is the Marathon achievement impossible? No, as evidenced by the 38 people on the leaderboards who have it. But at 0.01% of the game-owning population, I don't feel it's a stretch to say it's damn near close.

In any case, I was asking because of the thread linked above.

It's an interesting point, though. For example I can't beat Batman's last two combat challenges for 100%, but I'm not griping. Clearly it's doable, just not for me. This marathon challenge though is at a whole other level.

It's insane... but it's not the most insane achievement I've ever seen. I'll never get it, but why take away from those skilled enough to pull it off?

Someone on their forums mentioned the game is over 450,000 on the leaderboards now. So less than 45-50 people have the achievement. That's an awesome feat for them but it is pretty insane and out of touch for basically everyone. I don't feel strongly one way or the other despite loving achievements, but it would be nice for it to be difficult and possible.

edit: well everything I just said was said a few posts up. So I'm just echoing those now.

The game is great because it is hard as hell. That was what I love about it. 45-50 people seems like an awful lot of people to have achieved the "impossible" as some of you have put it. The game is fine how it is.

Drastic said:
Yeah the difficulty killing the fluidity of a run knocked a good bit of the fun off.
The fun is in getting good enough to have a good run on any track. Admittedly, not everyone is going to get to that level, but that's okay.

I dunno about anyone else but if the change to the achievement means I can actually get it, I'll only feel cheap and dirty if I do. It won't even feel like an achievement any more. I probably won't even try.

Fair enough, maybe I don't have the patience.

Wow, 35 tracks is a pretty hefty number. Thanks for posting that. At 5$ I don't think I'll be passing that up.

Fuck yes. CAn't wait.

Eurogamer has some details:

Inside are 23 new courses to hop around on and they focus on the medium and hard tiers - the "sweet spot", the developer told us. They are split into 12 medium, 9 hard and 2 extreme.

In addition, there's 12 skill games. I wish there was less of those and more tracks instead, but for $5 it's still a great value.
