The Trials HD Official Thread

Got my first two gold medals on Hard, joy. Though at the same time, I (accidentally) found a bug on Dynamic Range that basically allows you to "skip" a part of the level. Succeeded in reproducing it after many retries and finishing the track with no faults, so I'll ask someone to record said bug.

For that matter: I also uploaded a few other replays of mine if anyone's interested. They're not the fastest on the leaderboards, but I did at least try to make 'em fun to watch (such as the Rock 'n Drop run).

Dreamscape (#136)
Rock 'n Drop (#214)
Trippin' the Plywood (#664)
Tired Hill (#877)
Under Ground (#1323)
Let's get physical (#2921)

I'm up #5 on the first hard track. I'm determined to take #1. I've made it to the last checkpoint 1-1.5 seconds faster than my fastest time (which would put me well ahed of #1) multiple times but always screw up that last ramp.

GT: Scooterific

holy f'n hell, that part with the 2 angled ramps on Inferno is the most frustrating thing ever in videogames. I can get there in about 1.5 mins/5 faults then spend the next 28.5 mins/495 faults on that part. Pretty much every single time I hit the 2nd angled ramp I bounce or slide off. The few times I get over it I just fall to my death since I don't have enough speed. I've done it at least 10 separate sessions and not even close. The videos make it look so easy!

it's definitely the hardest and most frustrating part of the entire game. I wasted hours on that spot alone. Keep at it. I found that leaderboard vids don't help that much with parts as hard as that, even with the button presses visibile. You'll eventually get it right on your own.

Basically you need to slide down on the first ramp enough so that you can gain enough momentum for your jump. Mid air it's best to keep button presses to a minimum and get a good landing. Then you'll have to half throttle and slide down a bit so you can get enough speed to make it over.

I've only ever gotten over the second plank twice, and both times I lacked the velocity to make it to the next platform. Rage.

My strategy for this part seems to work pretty well...for me anyway, but maybe it will help.

If you only touch the first flat crate leading up to the first angled ramp with your back tire, you'll have a much easier time getting some good momentum on the first angled ramp. Roll down to the bottom of it, get some momentum, and launch to the second one. Make sure that you don't shift your weight forward while either stationary on the ramp, or rolling backward on the ramp. You have to be set up with your weight forward earlier than that (like in mid-air after the first bounce when you land), or your weight will get screwed up. Roll all the way back to the bottom of that ramp, and launch yourself with a good amout of speed, flinging your weight forward at the end. That'll get you over (almost :D ) every time. I know it is different for everyone, but that seems to work for me pretty consistently.

Seriously? I haven't got past these boxes once yet lol.

I still haven't been able to pass this section, Not even one time, Any ideas on how to get the bike over this box?

What a pain in the ass that part is. For me, the best strategy is
at the checkpoint, slam the gas and pop a wheelie. Just before you get to the box, shift weight forward, then back again when you hit the box, then quick forward again. This should pop you onto the box. It'll take a lot of trial and error to get it down to where you aren't all the way on your front wheel. The motion to remember is forward-back-forward. Aim to almost hit your front tire on the front edge of the box. Also, don't let go of the gas. If your back wheel can get some grip on the front of the box, and the gas is still wide open, you should pop up onto the box with that forward-back-forward motion. It's frustrating (still took me 30 tries just now), but it is possible.

nocode you really given me some times to beat in this game. I still have beat the last 3 levels. I got to jump back on those levels once I beat shadow complex.

Haha, sorry man! I got addicted all over again today.
Check out my new time for Goin' Up.
But seriously, I can bet you that I'll be trying to beat your times on some of these tracks soon. That's what is awesome about this game. What seems impossible one day is a breeze the next.

Holy crap Ive been struggling to get Gold on the Classic track (Hard) for like 2 days, I can finish it with little to no faults its the time requirement that gets me.. I just got 1:30.517 and the gold requirement is 1:30.00 - Ahhhhh!!

Wow, that sucks!

Once it was 0.006 seconds that kept me from getting a gold medal. :lol

Finally got it :D I now have Gold on all Hard tracks.. Now on to the Extreme levels but I wont be going for gold on those lol.

Holy shit, that Indiana Jones level is amazing! When are they going to end the bullshit of having to be friends to download levels? At least have a top 10 so everyone can compete on them?

I think the main problem is moderation. Microsoft don't want to have tracks full of cocks or copyrighted material and don't want to pay people to moderate. I'm not sure how that's even possible with the track creator, though I guess people will find a way.

There's an article about it here.

The issue of hosting the tracks seems bullshit to me. Tracks are a few kilobytes of data maybe? If they can't even host that, what are we paying a gold subscription for?

I agree that they should, at the very least, feature the best maps or something.

Shared tracks problem has got to be fixed. That Indiana Jones level looks really cool. I thought the fact that there is a warning that online interaction isn't included in the rating is a workaround for the "Cock track" problem. If people can scream whatever they want into their mic during multi-player games, how much more damaging is driving my bike down a giant cock-and-balls, and springboarding off the end?

God, Goin' Up and Inferno II are kicking my ass. I can get really close to the end on Goin' Up but only to that bit with those 2 ramps in Inferno II. This game gets absolutely fucking hard around the end of Medium.

That Track sharing issue could've been solved easily if they just allowed you to re-share tracks, that way some people on the forums could host listings of the best user created tracks on a dummy silver account and just accept all Friend request but they apparently didn't want people to claim other peoples work as their own (which i think could have been easily avoided).
The thing is, the shared tracks must be hosted somewhere online if you can get them without the creator needing to be online at the time.

anyways the maker of the Indiana jones Track Walton31 seems to be accepting friend requests, though he may not have room after the Indiana Jones clip. I sent him a request after seeing his first one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-7yvOO5yrs
Levels are super fun, the indiana Jones has a couple sticking points which are minor annoyances in an overall epic track.

yeah, i just think they're being tight with the cost it'd take to host such stuff. Is anyone here making tracks? I started mine today, will build it over time. Want it to basically be a tonne of huge jumps, as motorcrossy as possible.

hmmm I tried to get back to this after vacation and haven'tbeen feeling it.

constant restarts are maddening. I was pretty tired though. Think I'll beat shadow complex then re-evaluate.

Another frustrated driver here. The section with the two ramps in Inferno II has kicked my ass in probably 4 separate sessions. On top of it all, Trav beat it before me, despite getting the game about a week later. For shame.

The handlebar demon is mine! I finished up the Extreme tracks on Sunday. Last night I got gold on all of the Hard stages but the last two. Still feel like there is so much to do.

Sony spent untold sums of money to get the infrastructure in place for LBP (which I assume they are, at least in part, reusing for MNR). Maybe if we protest loud enough, the example set by games like this will encourage Microsoft to look into doing something similar.

Maybe not completely solved, but it would have been better than nothing. That way the best tracks could at least travel virally across Live.

Worked on some of the harder levels last night. Concrete Dreams (I think that's the name) really frustrates me, 'cause it's the kind of level where I know I should be able to get through with no faults, but something always happens. After a long time I finally managed a 1 or 2 fault run, but I should still be able to do better (at least time-wise). During this time I also found out that playing the game while listening to music with headphones really increases my frustration. I guess it's because failing miserably and getting really agitated at the game while at the same time listening to wonderful music and not hearing any game sounds doesn't jive.

Also attempted Inferno II again. It's funny, my first run I got through the ramps part after only a few tries and ended up with 80 faults and a decent time (~7 minutes iirc). Then I tried again, figuring I could improve on that, but couldn't get past the ramps and quit after getting 80 faults. Argh.

Think I may have found a bug on Dynamic Range. You can essentially skip a small part of the map right before you have to balance your bike on those metalic spheres, and it seems like an unintentional design quirk. Forward to 0:58 and you'll see what I mean.

Also uploaded my replays for Jolly Jumper (#247) and Rise & Fall (#427).

Do people ever jump the balls? I've done it a few times but haven't seen anyone else do it, by just bouncing on them with the back tyre.

Finally finished the Extreme Levels! Now going trying to change all my Bronzes to Silvers, then will move onto the Golds. Also, got 7 Platinums so far. :D

I've done it... but I wouldn't do it on a faultless run attempt because I've found it unreliable.

Actually, I think that jumping the first ball, and landing on the second is the best method. When I watched that video I thought it was weird that he actually used the first ball at all. I haven't played that track in a while though, been too addicted to Goin' Up (that and Shadow Complex/Miner Dig Deep). I'll get back into Trials in a big way again though. It is calling me as I type this.

Finally beat the game and got all but one achievement, i'll never beat 25 tracks in a row without a mistake so now i'm just looking to have some times to compete against and i'm also working on a custom track that i hope to eventually finish and share. Send me a friend request GT: LuigiLogik

I downloaded the demo and keep going through it over and over and over (no $ for points until next week). I bought Splosion Man and had fun, but something about that frustrating trial and error gameplay made me give up, while here I can't wait to pound my head against some of the more difficult challenges. I wish I knew why that was, but it just is.

FINALLY beat Inferno 2, by the end I was landing on the 2nd ramp pretty easily after figuring it out. I got kind of lucky at the very end since I was happy about making that jump where you hit your back tire before the finish and was just sitting there expecting a checkpoint then realized there wasn't one and took off and barely made the finish without getting it. 145 faults and about 14:44. yay! I still have Goin' Up to finish now though =(

edit: that was short-lived happiness, fuck that box in Goin' Up.

double edit less than a minute later: nevermind that box

one more edit: ran out of time, f that box again

F U C K this gold medal on Goin' up! I just finished it with 7 faults, and had it in my head for some reason that the time to beat for gold was 15 faults, 4:30:00. I crossed at 7 faults, 4:26:866 thinking "Finally!" only to realize that it is a 4 min limit.......... I hate you.

Edit: YES YES YES! Fuck that board, done with it! 10 faults, 3:07:790. All I wanted to do was finish up shadow complex, decided to play a couple of tracks, it's hour later and now I'm too pissed and happy to go to bed.

I'm just happy to finish it, get my achievement, and never look back. I just completed Goin' Up a minute ago. Much easier than the first time I tried it but, strangely, messed up a bunch mostly after the box section. Got the Unyielding achievement now and think I'm going to put this aside for a bit. Got on a good roll today to finish it out.

Well this was the end for me. I had enough trouble getting past the second check point. Finally got by it in only 50 tries and I get here. Ran out of time after about 200 tries. So frustrating. I'll never try it again. Oh well off to make some tracks.

I really like the medium tracks. Trying to get gold, improving my times, raising on my friends leaderboards.

I hope if there is DLC for this that there are a bunch of medium tracks... that is the sweet spot as far as difficulty goes, for me. Some of the hard ones are just too frustrating.

It's hard to explain that part... but there's a definite trick to it. Basically it's best to start off leaning forward, then as soon as you start accelerating, lean back to pop up the front wheel. As soon as your front wheel gets near the box, lean forward, otherwise the underside of your bike will smack the box and you're going no-where.

I still can't do it any more than 1 time in 5 though. I was playing at my nephew's place and he can do it about half the time he tries.

Phoenix Evo 250cc all the way. I tried messing around with the other bikes, but the Phoenix always gets to job done faster, especially on the later tracks. Some of the other ones seem to work better on the skill games.

No that's not how you do it. You need to hold back, and then hold forward so your front tire goes over it, but you will do a bounce, and land on top. And you want to lean back is little as possible, just enough so your front tire will make it over.

Using this I can probably do it 5-6 out of 10 times.

I still can't do the inferno 2 ramp part for shit. i can get there in less than a minute with no faults, but get stuck there. I know what I should be doing, but I just can't do it.

I actually think it's my controller and worn out triggers. I just don't get the precision needed to feather the gas to get momentum up the ramps. I'll have to try it with a brand new one.
