The Trials HD Official Thread

Finally unlocked this game tonight, and damn it's fun. Is there any benefits to doing flips, other than to be a badass? I suck, but I'd like to see what kind of tracks you GAFers have made.

Flips sometimes keep the "flow" of your run going more smoothly. Obviously the ultimate goal is to get the fastest times with 0 crashes, though, and usually flips are just detrimental to that goal. They sure look cool though.

If you're working on your global ranking remember to work on the skill games too. When I first started I barely touched them then finally worked on them once I hit a wall in the regular tracks, I remember my global ranking shooting up a bit once I did that. Feel free to add me (japtor) to see where I stand, just mention neogaf in the message so I recognize you. Last I played (a few weeks back) I was somewhere in the 40s I think, highest was in the top 25 at one point.

...not that I play right now. The thumb action destroyed my left wrist a few weeks back but it feels like it's recovering now. Remember to take breaks (instead of playing for 7-8 hours straight at a time)!

Darn. *hits unfriend button* :lol

I wouldn't be surprised if you 0 faulted a couple of extreme tracks too, which may put you ahead of me.

Oh well, at least I beat your time on Stock Market. Just Basic Bumps and King of the Hill left I think (outside extreme), unless you've beaten some of my other times on hard. I've got three platinums and am really close on four others, but I've no idea how to get platinum on Unfair Bombardment. I tried looking at some replays, but because of the replay bug they all exploded during the turtle section.
I hoping to 0 fault Inerno 2 eventually, but idont know if its going to happen. I can get less than 20 faults every time, but i dont kno w if i cant beat my record of 3 godd damn.. sorry if theres some speelling mistakes etc, im drunk.

Alright, I'm around rank 430 in the global rankings :D
Not only that, but I'm ranked 66 on the skill game Flame on :D
And I 0 faulted the first extreme track. Only 3 more to go.

Also japter, I added you.

You sound competitive. Add ChewyPoptarts please.

I've done two, and am very close on Goin' Up. And Inferno II doesn't look as impossible to 0 fault as I once thought. My main trouble spot there is falling down on those tires. It's the only spot I haven't been able to 0 fault through (yet). Of course, even so, 0 faulting everything in the same run is something else completely.

I've added a few of you. After playing the demo every day since it came out I finally broke and bought it :D

Loving it so far, add me if you want to race times or share tracks. My tag is the same on LIVE as it is here.

Same here. For a while I had no problem with it, but now I can never get down them without falling =/

You should check out the guy at the #1 spot, he skipped the tires :p

So I've beaten most the levels in a day...can't say I feel this was worth $15. Seems almost like a tech demo. I think the main thing is I'm not a perfectionist gamer, I don't care enough about games to perfect a run I just like to have fun.

Wish I hadn't gotten it. Should have bought Civilaztion Revolution or Street Fighter IV instead :==(

Didn't you not try the demo? That's what it's for. I enjoy the demo, but like you I am not into perfect the run and play it over and over again, since I just don't have the time so I skip it.

Your first quote doesn't mesh with the other.

Anyway, this game is all about replayability (getting medals and beating your friends) as well as improving your skills.

But even so, a first run through the game (all tracks, tournaments and skill games) should still take you a good 4-5 hours (if not more as the extreme tracks are brutal the first time around).

To be honest, you haven't really played the game if you haven't achieved Gold medals (whilst trying to figure out some of the "shortcuts" of a track so to speak) on most of the levels or competed for some of the higher times on the leaderboards (whether or not against friends).

But you raise a valid point that Trails HD is a game almost tailor-made for "perfectionists", so if that's not the way you like to play your games, fair enough.

Got some space for u guys :).
Alright I added you.

Btw, check out this map, looks amazing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edV5Rzo8skM

Brakara said:
Yeah, just tried it. Fun. But you need to adjust the medal limits. 0 faults in 1:15 for silver? :lol

MMaRsu, great, sent you a fr.
lol ya I know. They are WAY off.

Also here's a pro-tip for my map: You can do a triple back flip off the first jump.

Really love the free flowing jump levels. I enjoy figuring out the latter levels too but wish so badly there were a way to download maps. I hate making them and not a single friend I have has even tried.

Anyone know if that might be added as an update?

I really hope they do. If they added a system similiar to Halo 3, or Skate 2, that would be awesome. In skate 2, people can view any uploaded spot, or replay and rate them. You can also view by most downloaded and top rated.

If I could do that, this game would have unlimited replay value. But maybe that would destroy any point of DLC. Hopefully they add it after they release all their DLC.

I almost didn't realise that this game really starts to get awesome with the hard and extreme levels.

Everything before that is just a lengthy tutorial as far as I'm concerned. :D Having a lot of fun getting my fault-count lower and lower with each session in these tracks after breezing through the first three difficulty levels.

Money well spent! After Shadow Complex my favourite of the SoA titles.

how did I miss this thread?
GT = RushMCX
Im fairly competitive, but not very good (at odds I know haha)
Love this game. All golds, a couple platinum and one goddamn silver (3rd last tournament, I keep messing it up haha)

This game is like crack.

Pfft, this is 10x better than Shadow Complex.

Unfortunately, this will not happen. They've repeatedly stated that there is no global sharing because they don't have the resources to monitor all the user generated tracks for anything offensive.

And even if there was global sharing, the DLC will be worth it because it will contain tracks with leaderboards and replays as well as new environments and editor objects.

Speaking of which, now that I've got 100% (35 platinums and 8 golds), I'm ready for some new tracks and tournaments. The only things I've got left are to 0 fault Inferno II and the last three tournaments, but those are freaking hard.

Seems like this thread has picked back up! Nice!

Work has cut my trials playing time down to nearly zero, but I love seeing this thread get bumped.

Yeah, me too. I still can't get past Inferno II, though I jump in the skill games now and then to make sure I'm near the top of my friends list. Great game, awesome replayability.

How do you guys manage to get good distance in the ski jump? I've got gold medal, but I don't think I'll ever get platinum at this rate, or even beat my own record.

lean back going down the ramp then jerk forward and bail as you hit the end - thats my technique and is probably useless to you because i can't get plat either haha.
with the midnight bowling trophy... do you need to knock down the pins at the bottom of the pain/stairs levels? Ive only made it to the bottom once. let alone knocked the pins down

naw naw, there is a level where there are some hidden bowling pins. Can't remember the level name, but its a hard or medium level. Just look it up on youtube.

sweet! the only "secret part" ive found so far is the one in stock market with the nitro and the little platform up top to aim for. Im gonna add whoevers GTs are in here tomorrow, I love trying to beat friend's times!

really? son-of-a... I've been playing that frickin bone breaking game over and over and over to get that achievement. :/

Haven't been following this thread for a while cause I thought it was dead! Did I accept your request whitehawk? I have no clue who's who when looking at the requests most of the time. I used to add everyone but one guy was spamming me with 'YO I GOTZ SOME NEW TRACKS' and ruined that.

For the launch it's hard to explain so just watch the replays really. You want to be leaning back on the verge of a wheelie, then go forward right as you get to the lip of the jump. If you time it right the front will go down past the lip and the rear will get some extra spring to hurl you farther.

After the launch the key is basically just to just hold up-right*. You can also try using L/R to open/close your body but I don't know how much of a difference that makes.

*and doing this on the dpad is the real trick, apparently it has higher max values than the analog stick. I haven't tried this myself since I've only recently read about it.

...and my left wrist is still messed up. I'll probably reinstall Trials (or get a damn HD) after I finish up Lost Planet so I can take back any high scores if necessary. Not being first on the friends list would be a travesty, an injustice that will not stand.

That's not true, at least according to one of the developers (sebbbi) on redlynxgame.com.

Not to alarm you, but I'm ahead of you on the global standings. You're beating my times on the extreme tracks though.

You two are ahead on most of the tracks =/ I've got a couple on you guys. Especially Flame On, I dare you to try and beat me on that.

Also for the Ski Jump, I know of the leaning technique, but I still cant time it right. I've got a gold medal at like 130m i think. =/

It really is amazing what people have done with the level creator. It's just a shame the distribution system isn't that great.

Would have been cool if lets say I downloaded one of those tracks. Then one of my friends could download it too. I wouldn't be able to edit it or anything, but I should at least be able to share it.

Heh weird. I heard it was originally a developer that said it in the first place.

My wrist will rue the day I beat LP and go back to Trials.

RUE!

Seirously, I cannot believe I didn't buy this when it came out.

I had the trial sitting there all this time, and never gave it more than a 1 minute run. I actually gave it a real go and unlocked the full game minutes later.

FUCKING FAVOURITE ARCADE GAME.

Has the mosr replayability of almost any title I've played this gen, DD or Full retail. Just so much shit to do outside the standard couses.

Pinball and Ring of Fire are a fucking BLAST.

ADORE ADORE ADORE this game.

HOLY SHIT!! About 5 minutes ago, I completed Inferno 2 with 0 faults :D :D :D
Not the best time (1:33) but fuck, glad to finally finish that track. Now I just have to 0 fault the groundhog level.

Btw, I'm making a pretty cool track right now called 'Deep Sea'. I'll post back here later when its done.

Had the game for a week now, damn it's awesome. I've been working on inferno 2 and have managed 10 faults as my best so far. Only 2 of my friends have the game so I haven't been able to play any custom levels yet. If anyone wants to add me my tag is Chronite.

Yeah. I downloaded this game a few weeks ago. Freaking amazing game and well worth the money it costs to download it.

Will buy a 2nd one if they ever make it.

Alright, I pretty much just finished the Map I'm making. Didn't really get to end it the way I wanted to (object limit), but it worked out pretty well. Just gonna make a few adjustments, and I'll post here again when it's up. I've put quite a bit of time into this, hopefully you guys enjoy it :D
