The Trials HD Official Thread

Fixed the critical bug that caused all the console freezes. All the game freezes are solved. This includes following situations:
- Console freeze when starting "Pain! Again" skill game. Affected around half the players (but not all the time)
- Occasional console freeze when playing "Smooth Jumps" track (or any tournament with it, such as "Ultimate Endurance"). Affected small minority of players (very rarely)
- Occasional console freeze when scrolling track selector quickly. Affected small minority of players (very rarely)
- Occasional console freeze when advancing quickly to next track in any tournament. Affected small minority of players (very rarely)

Other fixes and improvements:
- Fixed issue that occasionally caused user created track list to show no tracks at all (requiring game restart to get tracks visible again).
- Fixed issue on track selector mini leaderboards not showing any scores (or containing wrong data) when accessing skill game and racing menus quickly.
- Reduced game leaderboard server usage. This will ensure that the leaderboards respond quickly during peak weekend hours.
- Fixed a bug in replay synchronization. Runs started with fast reset didn't record correctly to all leaderboards (esp. Breakdown, Logsplosive, Classic, Skyway and Flugtag replays often recorded incorrectly). All new replays performed after the patch will now show correctly to all players on these tracks as well.
- Fixed user created track corruption issue, when doing track with offline profile and changing the profile to be online.
- Fixed a license migration problem in DLC loading which caused an invalid "corrupted DLC message" when owning profile was not signed in.

I saw that too, awesome! Guess we'll see future installments on xbla.

well deserved on the rewards. this game fucking RULES!

been playing a lot lately. getting a lot better at the expert courses (gold on two of them, silver on Going Up today and getting close to silver on Inferno II! whoo!). finally finished getting gold on all of the hard courses (getting close to a platinum on KOTH, i can feel it baby!).

the game that keeps on giving. god i love it.

The latest episode of Red Lynx TV has a pretty amazing building tip. It shows you how to slingshot cars (or any other object) at incredible speeds. It is at the 3:38 mark.

Just bought this game today to take advantage of that sweet deal, and I think it's a really fun game.

It gets pretty tough starting in Medium.. at least for me. I'm now stuck on a level on Hard because of these stupid steep inclines. :lol

Overall though, I'm pretty satisfied and I think it's definitely worth 560 MS points.

the more you play the better it gets. really.

the game is incredibly rewarding if you put in the time.

Love the game. Breezed through Easy and Medium. Hard is almost too much for me but Trials really has the 'one more go' element that stops me from giving the game up.

that's the incredible beauty of the game.

the things that seem hard at first become easy. the things that seem impossible become more than possible. the courses/obstacles that you once struggled to get through become possible to do with style.

this game teaches you the skills you need to master it without you even realizing it. every time you play you become better. every time you struggle to get over an obstacle you are progressing.

when i first unlocked the hard and extreme levels i thought there would be no way i would even be able to complete some of them. now i slay them (for the most part).

this game really rewards hard work like few others can.

it is really brilliant. one of my favorite games ever. i hope you guys can enjoy it half as much as i do.

I want more tracks! You can have my money Microsoft, all of it! Are there any rumors of a new track pack?

(Yes, I'm addicted.)

there are strong rumors. pretty sure we'll be getting some this year at some point.

Hopefully, people don't get too dismayed while playing the hard tracks for the first time. Personally, I didn't get good at them until I had gold (and some platinums) on the medium tracks first. But the beauty of Trials lies in the replayability. Playing a track over and over again until I've nailed it has been both the most frustrating and enjoyable experiences I've had in gaming.

I got this game a coupe nights ago, and boy this is fun. Stupidly fun. So far on the third track of the medium set right now, and having an insanely good time. I can't believe I passed on this game for so long.

Bought this in the recent sale. Pretty cool stuff, but I'm glad I didn't spend $15 on it. Only about two evenings worth of content here for me before I hit my skill ceiling. So frustrating.

You say that now.....come on, you can do a little bit better can't you?

Bahaha. Dude, the replayability on this game is through the roof. Don't give up. At first I hit the max amount of faults in Inferno 2. Now I get less than 15 faults every time I try it. (And I've 0 faulted it before).

C'mon, man. I only crashed 254 times until I passed Inferno II! :lol

In other words, don't give up! The latter tracks get addicting along with the frustration.

See my posts two posts above yours. The replayability for this game is insane.

Echoing the above. The first time I played King of the Hill I failed it after making something like 480 faults in half an hour.

I kept playing.

I've since completed it in zero faults :D

I'll keep playing. It is certainly addicting and replayable. I dropped four straight hours into it last night. I can't remember the last time I did that on a skill-based, non-narrative game.

I suppose my issue is that my play style has evolved as I've gotten older. I'm all for challenge but at a certain point after I've played a level hundreds of times without completing/beating it, I just feel like I am wasting my time. Trials HD has kept me re-trying longer than any other game that I can recall, so that's certainly saying something for its design and addictiveness.

What helped me was going back and mastering the easier tracks. You're not really ready for the next difficulty level until you've golded all the tracks on the current level.

Yes, for those feeling they are hitting a wall, keep at it. I 500 faulted Inferno II before I could pass it. Now I breeze through it. It is truly a game that you naturally get better at. Subtle throttle and breaking will become second nature.

glad to see this thread bumped, I got it in the sale last week and I have been horribly addicted ever since. The extreme tracks have got me hooked especially, I just have Inferno II left, and I'm fairly dure it's do-able. The second track in the Extreme section was horrible though, it took me 2 full half-hour tries before I finally got it and there were points where I literally had to turn the console off quickly for fear of being stuck there another half hour on the same section. And when it clicked and I could do the troublesome jump first go I felt like a god, that's awesome game design right there.

The DLC is great too, the designers seemed to realise that the fun part of the hard tracks is the massive twisty jumps rather than the pissing little boxes that fuck you up. Very glad to see more opportunities for showboating than in the standard tracks.

My only complaint is that summer is no time to be playing a tense trial and error platformer. Last night I was sweating so hard I had to keep a towel next to me while playing for the controller. And then I had the marks of my arms in controller-position on my t-shirt :lol

Last summer's XBLA games were too good IMO. Splosion man, Shadow Complex and this were too much platforming awesome all at one go which is why I didn't get this originally. MS needed to spread them out a little. At one a month I would have bought the fuck out of all of them.

this game frustrates the shit out of me and I regret buying it and I'm going to crack the disc if it had a disc and I hate it and it frustrates me

Indeed. I'll say it again - at a certain point it's not a "challenge" it's just wasted time. I've won gold on all but the two hardest medium tracks and now I can't even complete the third hard track? That is not a difficulty spike, it's a goddamn brick wall. I have no idea what it takes to get over the barrier at 1:06 in this video, but whatever it is, it takes a fucking Cylon to do it. This shit is beyond human.

I've just spent 300 faults trying to get it. I've not even come close. It's ridiculous. Oh well. I've got my 7 bucks worth. Time to move on...

I disagree completely. The hard tracks are the best part of the game. Just gotta practice and watch videos until it's second nature.

When you get over those "impossible" barriers, you will realize why the game is so goddamn good.

Does anyone remember when most games were this hard? I can't be the only one. I remember playing C64 games for days and days trying to beat them, only to realize eventually that there was no ending. :lol :lol

Oh man, I knew it'd be that bit, I was stuck for about as long :lol

Try reversing a bit from the checkpoint then accelerating whilst leaning back so you wheelie. Then before you get to the pipe, lean forward as fast as you can to hop which gives you enough to get onto it, then just smoothly work your way up there. You'll have to try a few times to get the timing right, but soon you'll be doing it every time.

(IIRC, you can pause the game and there's a little help option which has some advanced moves to try out.)

Anyone know if they will release more DLC levels for the game? I've gotten to the point where I have played every level so much, including the DLC, I just can't get excited to play the game any more.

Anybody here created some levels want to add me on XBL? Im' craving some new content.

Also, anyone else fantasize about a Trials PSP version? I would pay $40 for that.

Trials HD is Street Fighter on wheels.

I probably spent 3 days of solid playing trying to finish a couple of the extreme tracks ONCE.

However, once I did, I didn't only finish them, I finished them with like 3 faults.

They basically force you to level up your skills. By the time I could slam through Inferno, I had clicked and learned subtle nuances of manipulating my bike that never occurred to me before. It's like learning the muscle memory to do a FADC combo in SFIV without thinking about it.

And it did help me play the whole game better so it was worth it. I went backwards and set new times on "easy" tracks by playing them in ways I wouldn't have been able to before and creating new shortcuts.

Trials HD is a harsh mistress but a fair one.

Does anyone know if bike selection makes a difference on this one? It seems like the fastest available bike is not always the best choice.

I'd love a Trials Portable.

Too bad I can't beat any Extreme track :/

I was pretty lttp with this one but like most absolutly love it, even though I'm not very good at it. I breezed through all the tracks up till hard and I feel like all I did before was play an extended tutorial to get me to this stage. I've only compleated a few maps on hard and really dont want to have to youtube to get through the rest' so I can see myself getting many, many hours out of this game.

I actually really enjoy games like this, incredibly hard, but oh so rewarding if you put the time and effort into really learning how to play. Whoever likened it to SF4 was right (I persoanlly would liken it to NG2, Acolyte and Warrier are the training modes for Mentor and MN mode) the more you put in, the bigger the reward.

Just like NG2, I dunno If i'll ever finish Trails HD but it's a hell of a ride regardless, pun intended :D

I find Trials not only incredibly hard, but incredibly frustrating. While my human brain recognizes a complex physics system that produces consistent, repeatable results, my ape brain only sees slight variations rider lean or bike angle produce massive wipeouts or glorious landings, seemingly at random.

More DLC coming in Q4:

July 20, 2010 (Helsinki, Finland) — Gamers demanded it, and today RedLynx delivered, finally revealing Trials HD - Big Thrills, the hotly anticipated next expansion pack for its best-selling, award-winning Xbox LIVE Arcade game.

"Ever since we released the first Trials HD expansion, gamers have demanded more," said Antti Ilvessuo, the game's lead designer and creative director of RedLynx.

"They email us every day, they post on our message boards, and lately they've started calling my house and chasing me down the street," he said. "With this announcement, I can now emerge from hiding and get back to making games."

Forty new levels

With forty new professional tracks lovingly crafted by RedLynx's level designers, the new expansion will bring a whole new world of obsessive challenge and bone-crushing gameplay to the game's large and loyal fan base.

User-Created content

Unique with this release, RedLynx will also include ten user-created tracks, fully credited and featured right alongside the professional levels created by RedLynx. Everyone whose track is included will in addition receive cash or prizes, as well as in-game credit.

"We're thrilled - no pun intended - to present this contest with our partners at Microsoft," said Tero Virtala, CEO of RedLynx. "We couldn't think of a better way to give back to our fans than to give them the opportunity to have their work featured right alongside ours in the next expansion of the legendary Trials HD game."

Cash prizes

Gamers can visit BigThrillsContest.com to view the rules, the prizes, and the process for submitting a track for inclusion in the Trials HD - Big Thrills expansion pack.

Trials HD - Big Thrills is scheduled for a Q4 release.

Wow, that sounds amazing. How was the first DLC?

I'd say... incredible. It completely got me back into Trials HD, even getting better times for the old tracks. Almost all the new tracks were great fun, let's hope this new pack delivers in the same way. Trials HD... the game that keeps on giving. I wasn't expecting more dlc tbh, so this is a very welcome surprise. It'll cement Trials as my most played xbla game. Shame we can't check total playtime in this game.

YES! 40 New levels! The first dlc was fantastic, so I'm psyched up for this shit! I'm close to beating the ultimate endurance challenge achievement, and now I have a deadline to finish it by I guess. :lol

that isn't a shame, that's a godsend. I shudder to think how much of my life was spent on the couch infront of this. That said, new expansion! YESSSSS

I should get back to trying to get the ultimate endurance achievement as well, I always get impatient and try to take silly high risk shortcuts, resulting in tragedy.

My only concern is that there'll be more 'gimmick' levels like the freaking space station one, I wasn't a big fan of that. Pumped for new tracks though, hope they are mostly Hard or Extreme but I know that's unlikely :/

If you have been using the Scorpian on hard courses, don't. It's really not for anything after Where's the Ground. Use the Pheonix. Watching leaderboard replays can simultaneously help you and make you feel like you suck.

And try the skill games to break the monotony of racing over and over.

Edit: Awesome sounding DLC.
