The Unpopular Opinions Thread: GAMING EDITION

Ridge Racer Revolution, the first Extreme-G and every PS2-Burnout are inherently better games than Gran Turismo 5 and every other racing-sim on the planet combined.

- Metroid Prime Echoes was the best in the Prime series. The dark/light world mechanics were great and it was a much deeper experience than the original. MP3 is good to to but it's just a fun featherweight shout-out game compared to Echoes.

- Every Grand Theft Auto game after Vice City was bloated and boring and never captured the fun again from its predecessors.

- The Metal Gear Solid story is complete incomprehensible dribble. People who think it's 'deep and engaging' should have their heads examined. Also, the only good MSG games where I at least had the feeling I was playing a game were 1 and 3.

- RPGs should always use the classic turn-based system instead of trying to reinvent themselves with some weird 'ATB action energy refilling meter' or other crap like that

- F-Zero X will always be the best F-Zero game ever made

Using the cake is a lie, the princess is in another castle, etc. isn't clever. Stop putting them in your games.

Also that hoopla companion cube was stupid.

How is it hard to understand, did you mute the game and go run while the cut scenes played? Now if you said the story was stupid or bad I'd understand(but disagree).

Ubisoft are the best AAA developer still around.

Sea of thieves is a master piece for all the old days nostalgic like me.

Dragon 's dogma combat system is trash compared with Monster hunter world.

Edit: damn that is a huge necrobump!

You necro'd this thread to be completely wrong as well! Good job!

On topic: All Mario games are objective trash.

Bloodborne is such Overrated game and dont deserve exageration of attention.

Bioshock is a Common I.P. Nothing special, I Just like Infinite because Booker and Elizabeth characters...

COD, PUBG, FORTNITE AND DESTINY SHOULD BE DESTROYED FOR THE GOOD OF THE HUMANITY. i forgive Overwatch only for D.VA., But if not for her, Overwatch should be destroyed too

No mans Sky is the WORST Indie Game created... More than Proteus.

Tatsumi Kimishima is the miracle for Nintendo and im glad that he was the president.

Xbox 360 is a fucking trash of console (3 Red lights of the death)

Every Youtuber gamer I see,( Or female gamer youtuber) I only see a beggar asking for money to eat

Almost all turn-based JRPG battle systems suck horribly.

You make only the most brain dead simple decisions (hurrrr, use the element that your enemy is weak against, cast Cure on the guy with low HP, etc). And you almost always fight the same few enemy groups over and over, long past the point where you've figured out whatever tricks they had in store for you.

Most attempts to spice up the formula only make it worse. JRPG dungeons are designed around having dozens of random battles in quick succession , rather than a few unique and challenging encounters. So whatever "strategic" elements they try to add to the battle system just end up adding a layer of tedium and annoyance.

And NOBODY would play a turn based JRPG If not for the constant stream of EXP and level ups giving you those little dopamine hits.

As much as I like some JRPG I feel the same way. Especially after playing games with good turn based strategy like X-Com, Divinity, Shadowrun. It's not like Shadowrun is particularly interesting and in depth but at least it's engaging. Some JRPG boss battles are mildly engaging. I did like hybrid systems, FF XII for example (Gambits like programming an AI) but straight up real time JRPG like FFXV are also mostly garbage in my opinion (to be fair Dragon Age Inquisition real time combat is also garbage and devoid of any strategy)

Mass Effect Andromeda was as good if not better than ME1 and 3. But the online ridicule of its facial animations got so much traction that people just avoided it.

They quickly fixed the animations, gun combat and movement light years ahead od previous games. I really enjoyed it, the story was pretty good but not as deep as before but still a fun scifi romp. Wish it got dlc :(

Half Life 2 had lost its spirit before the second Episode wrapped up and that made me less excited for Episode 3, in fact I always thought they had written themselves into a corner with how the story developed with the Borealis and all.

That said, Marc Laidlaw's Epistle 3 message convinced me that the sequel to Episode 2 would've at least been faithful but rightly enough, it ended on a deus ex machina sort of ambiguous ending just the same as the vanilla Half Life 2.

PUBG and Fornite are the most boring online games I've ever played.
You are just hiding and looting 90% of time until someone suddenly kills you.
Even top players plays like that.

p.s. The Fortnite also has that idiotic "build" gimmick.

I don't like the original Deus Ex. I think it's a shooting stealth game with bad shooting and bad stealth.

I first thought I felt this way since I came to the game late, but I came to System Shock and Ultima Underworld late as well and loved those games. I just personally don't like Deus Ex 1. I liked 2 and 3, but didn't much care for 4, as I felt the world map was a pain to navigate, the game ran poorly on my PC (4790k and a 1080ti) and once they started talking about the Illuminati...my mind just kind of shut down.

For me personally "realism" most of the time sucks the fun out of the games. To me you don't need hyper realism to be immersed to game. In DQXI I feel like I'm living in that world even tho the game has very "cartoony" artstyle.

This reminds me...

I have owned every Deus Ex game and never finished one. I think the most I got was 8 hours Human Revolution.

The just don't do it for me even though I love similar games.

Dark souls is pure trash and it's the luckiest franchise ever when it comes to being in the right place at the right time.

I love Playstation Portable's Rengoku: Tower of Purgatory and Rengoku: Stairway to HEAVEN.

Yeah, i'm one of those lost souls.

I buy every new release and give up on them within hours. Not sure why I keep buying them. I think maybe they are so well reviewed that I feel something is wrong with me for not liking them, so I keep hoping something clicks

The Last of Us is an awful game and a sub par movie... I've never been so bored by a supposedly great game in my life...

I don't understand the high scores considering they are always one glitch away from crashing and run poorly when it comes to frame pacing

4 attempts for Demons Souls to click and now it is my favorite series ever. Not everyone has to love them though. They are wrong but that's ok. :p

I'm the same. Couldn't get into them whenever I tried. I'll try again at some point in the future.

- God of war 2018 is the most overrated game in existence. I legitimately cant think of another game that is more overrated. It took them 1 year of development time to animate a scripted dragon that was boring as hell to fight. It would take From Software 1 month to animate the same dragon and it would be 10x more entertaining to fight. There were countless of bosses in Bloodborne that were more impressive and animated better than that dragon. Kind of speaks volumes of Santa Monica and its director.

- Uncharted 4 is a terrible paced game. Absolutely awful.

- All first party sony games are overrated walking sim garbage. Its been like this since the PS3.

Axelay is the best old shooter of its generation.... and possibly ever.

Has it all, graphics, audio, nice little intro and ending scene. The days Konami ruled.

- The rebooted Tomb Raider series is dramatically better than Uncharted.

- Saints Row has been better than GTA ever since SR2.

Paying $400-$500 for a Half a Gen Upgrade Machine that you can only get a benefit from by purchasing a new 4K HDR Capable Television at upwards of $600 to $700 is crazy to me. I get that the picture is better but is it really $1000 better.

Nioh is nowhere near as good as the games it imitates, actually is pretty bad. Terrible inventory system and variety, crafting sucks, hub is depressive and featureless, locations are few and repetitive as fuck.

The following things generally make a game much worse and I typically mod them out when possible:
- Carry weight
- Stamina
- Weapon/armor durability

Quicksave should be the standard save system. Pretty much anything else is a poor substitute.

Sony's first party lineup has been better than Nintendo's for a long time

Nintendo generally makes the same games over and over, but because they're on a longer timeline they're given a pass.

Giant Bomb isn't any better than any other gaming outlet

I cannot think of a single Nintendo game on the Wii/Wii U/Switch that wouldn't have been better if it had been on one of the HD systems or PC.

- Metal Gear Solid 2 its better than Metal Gear Solid 3
- Dark Souls its better than Bloodborne
- Kojima its overrated
- Nintendo Spirit died after the gamecube
- Post Fallout New Vegas art direction its crap (Fallout 4 and 76)
- Art Direction and Story of Batman Arkham Origins its far better than Arkham City and Asylum.
