Tim Burton movies suck and only douchey hipsters like them.

That's right, deal with it.

I'm probably the biggest TB hater on the forum but you're wrong. He has made a couple of good movies. Big Fish and Ed Wood show what he can be, if he followed his story teller side and not his artsy side.

Begins is much better. TDK is three hours of boring.
Well it's your opinion, but I don't agree.

I have a severe dislike of Ra's Al Ghul though.:lol

Joker and Two-Face are some of my favorite Batman villains. Well... my favorite is Creeper, but Joker and Two-Face are close behind.

Inception was decent, but not great.

The Bourne Trilogy is worth a watch but pretty forgettable afterward.

Avatar was neat looking in the theater, but aside from that, it's shit.

edit: and Gladiator sucks too.

Speed Racer isn't so much bad as it is hard to watch. It's like the movie equivalent of playing Fatal Inertia with your TV set on vivid.

The only thing in its favour is Mola Ram.

Not really. Compared to Raider's and Crystal Skull's villains, Mola Ram is not that great or interesting. He has a nice hat, though.

What's in favor for Temple of Doom is the music, the special effects, the plot, the action scenes, and of course, more convincing danger and suspense.

It's cool. :lol

Even his best are an acquired taste because of his extreme focus on the visually disturbing. He likes making people uncomfortable in sometimes subtle and sometimes overt ways.

I feel like he strikes a nice balance in the films I mentioned.

M. Night Shymalan is a better screenwriter than Gary Whitta. There I said what we have all been thinking.
That has to be a troll.

Because... Good God no!

Inception sucks.

I wasn't a fan of 2001: A Space Odyssey and Rear Window. Won't say either is awful, but one just seemed to be weird for the sake of being weird and the other fails to build any real tension.

EDIT: Oh I won't say Inglorious Basterds is a bad movie either, but I don't think Tarentino's style fits at all with a WWII movie, so it was completely flat to me.

Tim Burton seems somehow immune to artistic growth; that's not to say that some of his films are not better than others, merely that his better works are just better on a sliding scale of quality, rather than being different sorts of beasts altogether.

This I can agree with.

- I enjoy all of the Matrix movies. I put them in this order: 1,3,2. I thought they all had great action and an overall good story. I acknowledge the sequels were flawed, but I think the flaws are overblown.

- My favorite Die Hard movie is Die Hard 4. I put them in this order: 4,3,1,2. It was just hilarious and awesome at the same time. I really liked Justin Long and Timothy Olyphant. DH3 is next due to Sam Jackson. Sam Jackson is amazing.

- Raging Bull is horribly overrated. I found it boring and don't understand the love for it.

- Watchment was absolutely horrible. Way too long and incredibly boring.

- The Dark Knight is overrated. It's first viewing was amazing, but it does not hold up well at all to repeat viewings. Batman Begins is the best Batman movie of all time.

- Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs is more enjoyable than any Pixar movie and I love almost every single Pixar movie (see below).

- Wall-E is Pixar's worst movie and is just overall a boring movie. Watched it twice to give it a fair shot and disliked it both times.

- Cars is a good movie.

- All Spiderman movies are crap.

- The X-Men movies suck. The first one is mediocre at least.

- Hot Tub Time Machine was a waste of some serious potential. The movie could have been so much fun but I felt it was ruined by the younger kid trying to keep everyone in line.

- I walked out on The Royal Tenanbaums. I love Life Aquatic however.

- I like all Terminator movies. I put them in this order: 2,1,3,4

- Titan A.E. doesn't get enough love (not sure if this is really an unpopular opinion, but whatever)

- I enjoyed Get Smart and Date Night.

- Daniel Craig is a terrible Bond. He should be a generic Communist villain instead. Casino Royale sucks.

- Inception is incredibly overrated. It is so nerdy I was actually embarrassed to see it.

- 300 is a fascist piece of shit (not sure if controversial, maybe on gaf ?)

- M Night Shyamalan is a great director. The Village was his masterpiece and The Happening was quite good (how can a movie with Zooey be bad ?).

- The voice of Batman in Nolan trilogy is awesome.

- Risky Business is the best romantic comedy of the 80's. Tom Cruise is an incredible actor. Eyes Wide Shut is Kubrick's finest.

- Miami Vice is totally faithful to the TV show. Only people with a limited knowledge of the show will say otherwise. It is also vastly superior to any other action movie ever made.
Gong Li's accent adds to the greatness and the Cuba sequence is the highlight of the movie.

I didn't like Edward Scissorhands or Beetlejuice, and I haven't seen Nightmare before Christmas or James and the Giant Peach since I was a little kid. So I'll have to watch those two again sometime. But I think it did indeed make me uncomfortable to watch his movies when I was a kid.

And like every opinion you ever had.

Anyway i always find Pulp Fiction to be boring as fuck.

I don't actually know how unpopular that opinion is.

All the Spiderman movies sucked. Really, I don't see what made the 3rd one so bad compared to the other two.

Batman Returns is the best Batman movie. The Dark Knight goes down a bit with each viewing.

Batman and Robin is better than Batman Forever. Don't get me wrong, both are terrible terrible movies, but Batman and Robin takes everything wrong with Batman Forever and amplifies it to infinity. It's so bad it's somewhat watchable, which is more than can be said for Batman Forever.

Miami Vice is indeed awesome (and as posted above pretty faithful to the show).

The Terminator is better than T2, and T2 was only a good movie when I was a child.

I'm consider myself a film connoisseur, and as such I have a superior taste in movies than most of Gaf. I've been a critic of films for many years now, and have vast knowledge of the ins and outs of the film industry. Frankly, many of the opinions posted in this thread are laughable, and I only wish you understood movies as well as I do. Here are some of my opinions (which are more like objective observations):

1. Pixar is incredibly overrated. Pound for pound, Dreamworks Animation has a better record than Pixar.

2. Avatar isn't just a bad movie, it was objectively the worst movie of 2009. I'm also including all the foreign films I watched over the past year, as well as Hollywood's normal output.

3. Pulp Fiction was hilariously miscast.

4. The Dark Knight is a terrible, terrible movie. Everything about it is embarrassing, as are its fans, who are blights on the film industry.

5. Speed Racer is far and away the best film this decade. Everything about it is stunning. People who dislike it just don't understand its message.

Some of you may disagree with me, but I doubt anyone here is as knowledgeable of movies as I am or has seen even a fraction of the films that I have. :lol

I have to agree with #2

anyways....

Tim Burton is a piece of shit director and his fans are even worse.

James Cameron is one of the most overrated directors of all time, it baffles me as to how his movies make so much money.

Christian Bale is not a good actor, most of the good movies he's in he is carried by a superior actor. American Psycho sucked...

Monsters Inc. is still Pixars best film.

Well, he does have a great style. It's just when he tries to be original that it messes things up. He has good intentions. But he's just wrong.

Clerks is Kevin Smith's only actually good movie, and even that doesn't hold up very well. His Q & As on dvd are funnier than most of his filmography. The man is talented, but maybe not at movies.

American action movies in the 80s can't even compete with the action movies Hong Kong was putting out in that decade. If only half of HK's action talent hadn't wasted their time with Hollywood during the 90's.....

Mortal Kombat is a fun, faithful movie that deserves at least a little more respect than it gets.

Hahhaha, good game jack , I'm assuming this is a joke post. Reminds me of armond whites message to Roger Ebert.

Oh this is fun:

1) Matrix Revolutions is a decent movie. I dont understand all the hate it gets.

2) Meet the parents is probably the most underrated movie Ive ever seen.

3) I may give it another chance one day but Bladerunner was pure shit.

4) Fuck you, Last Samurai was amazing

5) I thought Godfather 2 was vastly inferior to 1. I found part 2 to be so unfocused and messy.

6) I turned off Schindlers list about 15 minutes in because I was so fucking bored. Same with clockwork orange but I plan on giving that another chance.

7) Taken shouldve created/won an oscar for being the most straightforward movie ever created. Ive never seen a movie where no moment felt fluffy and pointless. Every scene had a impact on the overall narrative. It was damn near perfect.

8) The Prestige is hands down Nolans best film.

9) Mission to Mars is one of the best space movies ever created.

10) Incredible hulk was awesome and I dont get the hate.

11) Just about every comedy these days fall apart in the end when they forget they're a comedy.

12) I dont understand how the Hurt Locker won ANYTHING. It was the same scenario over and over again for 2 hours. How a movie that repetitious and pointless wins best film baffles me to no end.

13) zooey deschanel is a horrble actress and EVERY RELATIONSHIP shes a part of in movies feel forced and completely unnatural.

14) Transformers 2 is the most visually/technologically amazing movie ever created and I doubt it will be topped anytime soon.

James Cameron called it pocahontas in space before the movie even came out. So I don't see that as a valid complaint.

If thats the case then he was wrong...

it was FERN GULLY in space. Had the yellow truck and everything.

Avatar is trash.

Speed Racer is brilliant.

Shutter Island was a tiresome bore.

Ocean's Twelve is quite possibly the best of the three.

The Spider-Man films were all shit.

Found footage movies suck balls.

Alex Garland's scripts do not fall apart in their third acts.

There is no twist or unexpected ending in Audition. If you think that comes out of nowhere you weren't paying attention.

.

Finding Nemo is terrible, and the Incredibles is mediocre. Toy Story 2 also sucked. I need to watch more Pixar movies so I can legitimately call them overrated.

On the other hand, Transformers was a damn good popcorn flick and so was War of the Worlds *dealwithit.gif*

Seriously, Inception is bloated and mediocre fluff.

Well, the third level was totally pointless. You could have written out the level and skipped straight to the fourth level and missed nothing of value.

This is almost crossing the line into offensive. Warning.

I really hated UP, which according to rottentomatoes puts me in disagreement with 98% of people. Great idea for a poster, but a terrible movie.

Dancing with Wolves, The Last Samurai and Avatar are all the same movie with the same message. White people are the master race. You could put a skinhead in an SS uniform as the lead in those movies and wouldn't increase the white supremacist propaganda.

The Godfather Part II is not a very good movie. The plot wanders from scene to scene with no explanation, and while the story of the young Don rising to power was the best thing about it (DeNiro is brilliant) it was also not needed and served to break whatever narrative cohesion the movie managed to build. Scenes like *poof* we're testifying before Congress were just pointless. It was beautifully shot and acted, but didn't have any reason to exist other than to win more awards. Boring, fragmented and poorly edited.

On this front I agree with Ebert's review of it, though I'd knock a full star off.

Coppola is unable to draw all this together and make it work on the level of simple, absorbing narrative. The stunning text of "The Godfather" is replaced in "Part II" with prologues, epilogues, footnotes, and good intentions.

The first film is brilliance from end to end.

The Godfather is the only film in that trilogy that's a genuine masterpiece. Part II is merely good and Part III, though not as bad as some make out, is average.

The presence of Ellen Page is enough to ruin any movie.

Miami Vice is faithful to the spirit of the show. It has all the nihilism and none of the style. The Cuba sequence is terrible and detracts from the experience of a movie I think is really great.

3. No

4. Yes, minus the last ten minutes.

9. wat

I don't really consider story to be the most important part of a film. I really enjoy films that are high in atmosphere/mood like 2001, Blade Runner, Aguirre, and Eraserhead. Or films where atmosphere works well with the story like Once Upon a Time in the West.

To be on the same level as the rest of the thread though, I think Scarface 1983 is overrated and boring. The original is good though, but nothing spectacular.

Truth.

Avatar also has the awful animal bonding that's nowhere near as symbiotic as the movie wishes. All that talk about the dragons choosing the Na'vi as their rider, it's all a sick rape metaphor where the victim provokes the act of brutal subjugation. Hell, the Na'vi even have to fight the dragon in order to eventually penetrate it with their fancy hair braid.

Ugh, Avatar sucks so badly.
