The Witcher 3 probably not 1080P on consoles

I thought they had said 900p PS4 / 720p XBO, hadn't they?

It sounds like they don't have a final resolution for either of the consoles.

During E3 they stated the PS4 was already running at 1080p

Both consoles will have to make sacrifices (next to the PC build) to reach/maintain 1080p and a playable framerate if they're really including all the physics objects they talk up.

I don't disagree with that.

I believe them... I really doubt the consoles can handle that at max resolution.

I think the PS4 can, at least.
Don't forget that both consoles will run the PC equivalent of "high settings", nowhere near ultra so 1080p should be achievable.

I'm just waiting because they said that about PS4 some weeks ago.

So they are running PS4 at 1080p before... if it is not then I will believe in the parity think people is saying.

That statement doesnt actually say they are running it at 1080p on the PS4 though. It says they anticipate it being easier to do than on XB1.

I'm really not surprised, This game will be extremely demanding. Even my 4690k and 780 will be in pain.

That's a shame, because the animations feel extremely last-gen. Stunning 1080p visuals was the least of my expectations based on how confident they were earlier in development.
Animations are mostly a matter of art, not tech. The "gen" is irrelevant.
Let's stop spouting nonsense, please.

Yep, for an open world game this huge and beautiful, I'd be fine with 900p on my PS4. They're clearly pushing the visuals to new heights, so sure, I'm okay with 900p if that guarantees 30fps minimum. No lower than that though. 720p is not okay.

As current gen games become more demanding and leave their last gen counterparts (cross gen games) behind, we'll probably see more games lowering their resolution just to keep a stable frame rate on current gen consoles.

EDIT: I still expect 900p @ 30 fps to be the future standard for AAA console games in about 2 to 3 years.

Yes for sure. A man on a horse and a boat on a stormy sea are well out of the equation!

Complete with no Geralt shadow until halfway through the gif!

he is giving and answer and just covering himself, he clearly states he does not know and then states 6 months worth of optimising with some geomatry culling work offering up 6-12 fps.

I think we need to wait until much nearer launch, nothing is set or defined yet even by the dev team.

True. But it should not be the case for a console that will be a little over 1 year old.

It was running at E3 on XB1 at 900p and looked fine. I would imagine the PS4 will look at least as good as that. Didnt CDPR already confirm this?

High on witcher 2 is still extremely taxing. The LoD distance alone chomps out so much FPS. There's a lot of future proofing.

Console only gamers should probably count themselves lucky their machines will even be able to run this game at all (let alone run it in HD) and pray there are no further compromises to come down the road.

Ps4 has 8 ACE. People don't give a fuck about those but even the 7970 has only 2 ACE.

900p with smooth 30FPS performance > 1080p with everything going to shit.

Yeah CDPR is doing the right thing. This is gonna be a huge, long game.Performance is the priority.

900p,30 fps.. Nothing new. Kind off shameful, honestly. Consoles should be working at 1080p, 60 fps in 2014. Sony should have gone with a better gpu.

I think it's opinable what you said here.
No, it's not.
Technological limitations determine can at most determine how complex an animation can be, not how good it will look.
if you look at the footage, this game has a lot of very complex animations going on at any given time, which makes any claim about them being "last gen" complete bogus.

What people are referring about with that kind of statement is that they don't particularly like the feeling and style of those animations, which is hardly related to their level of technical sophistication.

Not at all. Dynamic animations are something I'm really hoping become big this gen. Just check out Natural Motion's Euphoria to get a sense of where animations could go with more powerful hardware.
....Really? That doesn't apply at all here, since the game isn't using Euphoria. Nor any other system based on procedurally generated animations, as far as I know.
All the animations here are produced individually and then probably interpolated.

They've already said they're also paring back settings/effects on consoles, specifically that tessellated water in gif 1 is gone. The LOD, DoF, and Motion Blur will also no doubt all be butchered as well. So I mean, the consoles aren't pretending to run those gifs at 1080p anyways, they can't even handle them at significantly downgraded 1080p.

900p is passable, 720p on a nextgen console? That would truly suck. The only way I would take 720p as acceptable is if it gave us 60fps, but its 30fps.

There's more to how a game looks than framerate and resolution numbers on a piece of paper.

The Witcher 3 seems to really be pushing what those two boxes can do. I'm not saying it's not slightly disappointing but the game looks incredible visually to make up for it,

Anyone who wants the authentic Witcher experience would be playing the PC version anyway.

I am kidding guys enjoy whichever platform you buy it on :)

I had a feeling this wouldn't be 1080p on consoles though.
