The Witcher 3 probably not 1080P on consoles

They talk like if both consoles were equal in raw power...

Gonna be bummed if the PS4 version isn't 1080p, I'd love to play on my big screen TV at full resolution if possible. Otherwise I might give it a go on PC and try streaming to my TV... this of course depends on if Witcher 3 manages to fix the awful combat of Witcher 2. If it plays the same as witcher 2 I'm not even bothering w/ it.

Looks like I may upgrade my PC for this game after all.

I was hoping the PS4 version would meet my needs, but it sounds like it may lacking somewhat.

Seems weird they are saying this now. Didn't they already confirm 1080P on PS4?

I'm pretty sure Assassins Creed Unity will run at 720p for the ps4 and it looks amazing. Just get used to the possibility that not every game will run at 1080p and you won't be disappointed.
Lol where did you get this info? I've read this one place and one place only.... and I won't mention where because I despise it so much, but its damn good comedic reading when I'm at work.

I will be extremely disappointed in CD Projekt if they can't pull off 1080p. Won't be buying their game at full price on any platform if that's the case.

So what you're saying is that you just preordered it on Steam/GOG, right?

Is it that hard to believe? I mean, the game looks crazy good, and as the games look better they have to balance perfomance and graphics.

I'd hope for some Ubi vudu magic and be 1080p, but it would not surprise me one bit if they go 900p or 720p.

Does Witcher 2 even have any decent AA options built in? The only option I'm seeing in the launcher is "Enabled or Disabled" which means it's likely a shitty FXAA solution.
It's probably FXAA, but it also applies a light sharpening filter along with it to reduce the blur.

let me say it for you since you find them to be a joke and despise them so much lol its Sony. so far Ubisoft haven't cleared the confusion about what resolution the game is running on.

I find it impossible to believe that Unity is 720p, literally impossible. Lets hope that is an error because I really don't think it looks so demanding to warrant such a low resolution, first time I've seen that thank you!

Might have to cancel that pre-order I have on this game on PS4 if it is confirmed to run at 720p and pick it up on PC , that is a pathetic showing on their part if their first next-gen AC is 720p on the new consoles. Almost feels like they don't deserve my money for missing the mark by that much.

I can't tell you what to do, but personally I *always* advise against SLI /crossfire setups.
I've done the same since running dual R6950 MSI twin frozr's. When they worked, it was a dream, when the drivers/profiles weren't solid (more frequently), it was frustration. Will be a shame to retire the N670 considering the lack of games to tax it in the last two years, but I'm doubtful it will do what I want with TW3.

That's a freaking good laptop and there are no doubts it would play the game better than a console, performance wise.
Your GPU runs circles around the PS4's one.
IINM 780M is roughly around desktop GTX760, and 870M is weaker than that. If PS4 GPU is around ~5% better than stock HD7850, it's safe to say 870m is better than PS4's GPU but not significantly so.

His other components are way beefier of course :]

Witcher 2 looked great on 360 for the power it had... (i didnt have a gaming PC at the time...) obviously its going to look great on PC... why is this an argument?

In terms of console versions... if they can get it looking to scale as witcher 2 ill be fine. (i dont know if this makes sense... basically How Witcher 2 looks on 360, Witcher 3 should looked relatively scaled up on XB1/PS4. So... uh lets pretend Witcher 2 = inFamous 2, Witcher 3 should look like inFamous Second Son on consoles. (in terms of graphical leap between W2 and W3... obviously not saying witcher 3 should look like infamous ss... just an example of upgraded graphical leap between a generation of consoles.

Ya thats a beast laptop for sure. I don't know how much I'd enjoy playing an assassin's creed game on a tiny laptop screen though, so hopefully you'll hook it up to your TV to really enjoy the PC visuals

Unfortunate, but not surprising considering the way the game looks. Didn't think they'd hit 1080p.
Don't feel like building a new PC though any time soon, so hopefully it doesn't look too bad on PS4.

Eh. I'm not familiar with mobile GPUs at all since I don't use (nor like to use) laptops, but when he listed the model I just googled for it and the first thing i found was an article claiming it's essentially an overclocked GTX 770 (which incidentally is also my GPU and it's in itself roughly twice as powerful).
I assumed the information was correct.

If Witcher3 console version manages to look something like TW2 on max PC settings(in terms of textures and effects not resolution) at 30 FPS , I would be satisfied.

As he said, at least it runs on consoles! Not a big deal for me, i would have pick up the PC version even if the Xbox One version had been 1080p.Can't wait to max it out on my 4770k/r9 290 OC

I've got a similar setup and I'm honestly concerned I won't be able to max this one out and have it actually be playable. Sigh... guess I'll have to make a new build :-)

I am fine with 900p and even 720p, though it would be nice if they got the game to 1080p. Will be getting it for PS4 anyways no matter the resolution.

Another game that ill be buying on my PC, every purchase so far this gen has been for my PC.

There hasn't been one game ive bought for my consoles besides Dead rising and forza.

How sad.

Don't know why you bought the consoles then, you should have known all these games were going to be on PC anyways.

If they push the consoles so hard that it is unable to attain such resolution, it better not be something unnoticable like AO or some shit like that.

I think its just the vastness of the landscape and the detail they've put into the game that would be so taxing... little stuff like AO will almost assuredly be scrapped in favor of performance on consoles.

I don't want this game badly enough to preorder it. I want an RPG on my PS4 but I'm not desperate enough to pay $60 for something that's not even 1080p.

I'd imagine that it'll be pretty close to 1080p. Probably some odd resolution between 900p and 1080p. There was footage of it at 900p on XBO at E3 so I doubt it'll be anything below that on PS4.

Image quality will suffer horrendously if it's anything below my monitor's native resolution, though.

I may just have to pick up a Steam key in the GAF buy/sell/trade thread sometime after it comes out, if it will run well on my 670 and 3570k.

Developers can push visuals or resolution. In this case, CDPR chose the former.

Expect the resolution target to shift downward as this generation drags on. I sincerely hope that this one doesn't stick around as long as the last.

I probably missed something, but you have a monitor and care about resolution. Why do you have a console?

I have a console and a PC. I use the same display for both because I can't afford to spend $600-$700 or more on a TV right now.

Also why can't I care about resolution on a console? I thought this was supposed to be a new generation. Meaning we should be moving away from resolution compromises. Shouldn't we expect more from developers? If Uncharted 4 can hit 1080p/60 FPS and look as good as it does, surely we can expect this to hit 1080p/30 FPS?

You were complaining about resolution in the bloodborne thread as well saying that it ruined the game'a visuals. You know 1080p isn't the end all be all of graphics right? A game can be less than 1080p and still look amazing. Just like some games at 1080p can look like crap. And comparing uncharted 4, a tightly focused shooter to an open world rpg that's larger than skyrim is not a very good argument.

I hope devs try to stick to 1080p, played Watch dogs on my friend's PS4, along with a few other games, and that looked kind of blurry in comparison.

But I assume for devs a resolution drop is the most convenient change to make to get a performance boost across the game.

I was complaining about aliasing. That happens even at 1080p =).

I think we should expect more from developers on the next (current) generation of consoles. I don't see what's so wrong with that.

Kinda disappointing if they can't get 1080p at least on the PS4.
I can deal with 900p but I vastly prefer a native res even if it means toning down some of the eye candy.
